I've stayed here 3 or 4 times and the service is consistently good, staff friendly, can't do enough for you. V quiet even though you are in v busy part of town. Stone's throw from theatre, bistro/cafes, Stephens Green Centre and the LUAS. Planning another trip for Christmas shopping with friends from UK.
Very very good

The hotel is in the busiest area of Dublin, the staff are very courteous and helpful. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. There is a good restaurant and bar in the hotel, as well as a nightclub. (No, you can't hear the nightclub from your room). The Temple Bar area is just a two minute walk away from the hotel. We'd definately go back again.

Perfect Location

from SBCATraveler
This was our first time in Dublin. We wanted to stayed in City Center. The Grafton Capital Hotel is in a great location in City Center (close to Temple area). We walked to shopping, Trinity College, restaurants, pubs, and the Guinness Factory. The room was comfortable and the breakfast we had each morning (which was included in the price of the room) was a full delicious breakfast. The hotel staff was pleasant and quite helpful with any of our questions. We look forward returning to Dublin and would definitely stay at the Grafton Capital Hotel again.

t have asked for more...

Stayed here with my girlfriend in Aug 2004. Looks very grand from outside, but then the reception is so small it concerned me slightly. We were booked in very quickly & made our way to the room. They overbooked the standard rooms so we were upgraded to a Suite! Jacuzzi & all the works. Not the greatest view ever, but we didn't come to Dublin to stare out of a window! Grafton Street no more than 2 minutes away & very close to the local bars etc. A lot of attractions are a few minutes walk away.

The staff were very friendly, the staff in the restaurant were Portuguese or Spanish & there tended to be a bit of a language barrier at times. Turns out because we got the suite, breakfast was free as well! Bargain! Breakfast was very good, huge selection of hot & cold cuts, numerous varities of fruit & juices, all regularly topped up.

Underneath the hotel is a bar, which is frequented by locals by 8pm - so get in there a bit earlier to grab a seat! Fantastic decor & friendly staff. Our room was right above the doorway & the noise of the bar below can be loud in the rooms - so really there were 2 options - close the window, or join them! We chose the latter!

There is a lovely Chinese restaurant around the corner, couple of doors down from a theatre (i think!).

One thing I will say though - drinks are expensive. You are looking at towards £3.50 for a pint of lager. I actually paid about £12 for a pint & double malibu & coke in one place. We chose to visit the local bars rather than the pubs themselves, & there are dozens of high quality bars, many interlinking rooms. Fantastic in the evenings.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, if we return to Dublin - which is almost definitely - we will try to book here first! Enjoy your stay!

Suited us just fine

from Magsfury
I have to admit that after reading some of the early reviews of the Grafton Capital I was a little put off. I asked a friend who had stayed there three times for her honest opinion and she said that the hotel was fine and very centrally located so I took a chance and booked it for two days. I asked for a nice room as it was a treat for my husband leading up to his 60th birthday.

The girl in reception staff was very friendly on our arrival and gave us the keys to our good sized room. There was a bowl of fruit, cheese and biscuits and chocolate awaiting us (I think this was an extra as it was a special occasion) which was a nice touch. The bed was enormous and the bathroom was clean with a good sized bath and gallons of hot water. The breakfast was excellent and if you don't want the 'full Irish' there is fruit (try the berries....yummy), yogurt and plenty of cereals. The staff were very obliging and friendly and the tables were cleared and re-set as soon as they were vacated.

The hotel is indeed very central and there are lots of restaurants and shops on the doorstep. Dublin is a great city and I would recommend the open topped bus tour but wrap up well unless it's the middle of summer! Expensive since the euro arrived but a good experience. I would visit again and stay at the Grafton Capital again with no hesitation.

Great Location

After reading other reviews, we arrived here with an open mind about the noise. We rang up a couple of days before we arrived and requested a high floor, which we got. We stayed out until about 1.30am both nights and when we got back to the room, we could clearly hear the noise until 2.00am. I don't know how anybody could actually sleep through it if you were on the 2nd or 3rd floors. On a positive note the location is perfect and the rooms were really nice and clean, breakfast was great. To sum up if you will be drinking all night this is a perfect hotel. If your not I would not stay here.

Mixed feelings about stay.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel on a Monday and Tuesday night in mid-December. The staff were lovely and the breakfast food was delicious. However, there was a Christmas office party there the second night - the noise went on until 2am. We were on the second floor (the party was on the ground) and we could make out all the words to the songs. Reception were unable to do anything about the noise. Also, we'd asked for a double room - we got a triple with the double bed rammed up against the wall. When I called to ask for a switch they could only offer a room on a smoking floor.

pretty good hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
this hotel was simply very good, excellent staff, very attentive and friendly. they knew my name on sight and my room number thats how personal they are with their guests. the food is very good DO NOT EAT THE BREAKFAST i didnt like it at all but the nachos and the steak was very nice. the hotel was right in the mix of things, around the corner from stephens green mall, grafton street is literally a walk down the street 5 mins away and there is 50 places to eat. 20 feet from the entrance of the hotel is a atm, a news paper stand to buy drinks phone cards etc and a nice middle eastern place that sells good burgers and shawarmas which is flat bread with either chicken lamb or both. i had the chicken, not a fan of lamb. there is the hotel is very quiet, i stayed on a tuesday-friday so i didnt get bothered from the club although i kinda heard it on thursday night but my room was at the back of the hotel and with my tv on i could hardly hear the vibrations but it didnt bother me at all. i say to the people that cry and complain that the club is loud DONT STAY AT A HOTEL 5 MINUTES WALK FROM TEMPLE BAR people dont understand you pay to stay in the action and thats what you get ACTION, so dont bring the hotel down because you dont want to club. the hotel is very nice i had a kingsize bed. yes the wallpaper sucked, and the bathroom ceiling did need a little work but the tub was very large. the room was kinda dim although it did had 3 lamps in it and a hallway light it was still to dim for my taste but i will stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. its location is simply the best and even though they didnt have a fridge or ice machines they would bring me a bucket of ice 3 times a day from the kitchen so i can have with my drinks from the mini markets that surrounds the hotel. and for 96 euros a night to be that close to grafton street you cant beat it hands down.

Be Careful

I would advise caution about booking here. We are three couples who had reserved rooms here months in advance. Upon our arrival, we found that four of us had been transferred to another hotel with definitely inferior rooms. The staff refused to make any attempt to accomodate us and misrepresented the situation. It seems that this hotel knowingly and significantly overbooks, then fills several lesser hotels in the area with their overflow. I would suggest avoiding this place.

Too many problems at The Grafton

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I just returned from a 5 day trip to Ireland, including 3 days in the Grafton Capital Hotel. We arrived on a Saturday. The location is ideal. Just minutes from all sights. We stayed in a mini-suite, which was very spacious and could be very comfortable, but the hotel needs a “facelift”. The walls need fresh paint, the wall paper needs some cleaning, the bathroom needed a good deep cleaning, including new grout, or intensive cleaning of it. The panelling covering the outside of the jacuzzi was coming off, due to warping. It didn’t feel crisp and clean. Beware - the nightclub noise is unbearable! We live in downtown Chicago, so we did not think the noise would be an issue for us – we’re used to noise at night. Our room was not above the club, and was 5 stories up, and we could still hear the pounding of the disco beat until 2:30 am. But, even more of a problem was the party that spilled outside of the nightclub, into the courtyard of the hotel. Since there is now a smoking ban in Dublin pubs, all of the smokers are forced outside. There were 30+ people at any given time partying outside. Our windows did not close all the way, so there was no sound proofing. We called the front desk at 1:00 am and told them we would be checking out in the morning, as we could not put up with this another night. We were assured that the nightclub was closed Sun-Tues, so the noise won’t be a problem. We stayed Sunday, and there was not a noise issue. However, we returned Tuesday night, after a side-trip for 1 night, to find that there was a special party in the nightclub, and we would be moved to the Trinity Capital Hotel, their sister hotel across town. Once we moved to an inner room, not facing the heavily travelled street, we were fine. I give the staff credit for admitting that it was going to be a noisy night, and moving us. Should we travel to Dublin again, we would not stay at this hotel, nor can we recommend it.

What a weekend!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent the weekend at the Grafton for a Hen party. There were 12 of us in total and we all thought it was fantastic. We could not fault a thing. The food was great, the location was fab, staff were friendly and helpful and the club was just ideal. We would definatly recommend this hotel to others and will be sure to return in the future.

4 nights was EXCELLENT

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at Grafton Capital Hotel and check in and check out was a breeze. They didn't have my room ready when I arrived so they just stored my luggage as I walked around the city. They were very helpful in answering my questions, room service and accomodating cleaning crew was excellent. It is very close (5 minute walk) to Grafton Street and St. Stephen's Green Shopping Center so that is where I spent most of my 4 days! Excellent hotel!!!!

Top Local Tips for Dublin

A busy city Dublin is very busy and can be touristy. Stay on the southside of the river and be near, but not on, main streets. Lunching on St. Stephen's Green is a must.

Places to go Take a walk around the Green and Grafton Street very nice

Dining There was lots of great little cafes and restaurants in the area. We tried Chatham Brasserie on Chatham st 2 min from the hotel really liked it and a bistro style restaurant on Dwson st called Blue very modern a bit pricy think the owner is some well know irish chef cant remember name but worth a visit.
