Arrived into a beautiful new Dublin Skylon hotel the lobby was very tastefully decorated since i had last been there. I brought up to my room on the 1st floor which was very spacious with a great big bathroom everything was so new and clean. Also had a plasma screen. 10 minutes to the city centre. Left my car in the new underground carpark and caught a bus no need for car at all everything so close by, great location. Would definitely recommend this hotel and I am very hard to please.

The newly renovated Dublin Skylon Hotel is magnificent. Had a wonderful stay in a beautifully decorated room with spacious bathroom. The staff were very pleasant to me and i have to rave about the breakfast in the new dining room is delicious. Only a 10 minute walk into the city, and 10 minutes to the airport. Really is a great location, modern, with lovely staff. Will definitely return.

I was in a group of 6 visiting Dublin for a long weekend. we booked it because it was cheap. The hotel looks terrible from outside but the reception and restaurant area you see when you walk in look contemporary.

Myself and my husband were first shown to room 118 which hadn't been cleaned so we were moved to 121. This room was right next to some kind of generator which was on 24/7. This meant neither of us got a decent night sleep which really affected our whole stay.

Some friends we were with booked a twin room. The first 2 they were shown had just 1 single bed in so a member of staff took them into every room on the 4th floor (even those with people in) to find a suitable one.

Our room was boiling hot and the radiator knob had no markings so we couldn't be sure if we were turning it up or not. There were bars outside the window meaning it couldn't be opened more than an inch.

The bathroom needed updating. Although it was clean, the bath seemed small, the sink wasn't fitted properly and the grout between the tiles had gone brown.

Other smaller things disappointed us - eg no milk for tea/coffee, tv remote control barely worked, noisy housekeeping staff at 8am on a sunday. On the saturday night, there was a band playing in the bar directly below the room. I could hear the music until gone midnight.

We booked through opodo and didn't realise it was room only meaning we spent an extra €60 on breakfast.

Location isn't brilliant as it's halfway between the city centre and the airport and on a very busy main road. It's too far to walk into the city so you have to get the bus (about 20 mins).

This hotel classes itself as a 3* but I have stayed in much better 2* hotels.

Unfriendly staff!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I spent the Halloween weekend there and we won't surely go again.
Our room was large and clean with facilities inside.
But the staff was totally unfriendly , not to talk about the restaurant staff who has been really offending. The were looking at us as we were thieves just because we had to pay cash (since we had payed in advance so that we did not have to give our credit card during check in)!!

Friendly staff only in the pub inside the hotel!

Absolute dump....with unhelpful staff

Had the terrible misfortune of staying here in the last couple of weeks. Was given a tiny room that overlooked the AC system outside - all of which made a terrible noise the whole time I was in the room. Ventured down to the bar which seemed nice enough, ordered some bar snacks which by definition are quick to make - they took over an hour to arrive and were nothing special when we did eventually get them.

Reception staff are something else, why they are working in the hospitality industry I'll never know because they treat you with utter contempt if you wander toward the desk. I don't know how else to say it...avoid avoid avoid!

A cheap hotel close to the airport. Pretty run down and in serious need of a renovation (or takeover by a big hotel chain). Listed as 3-star, closer to 2-star. Friendly, but rather incompetent staff. (I had a broken toilet seat for the two days and they failed to fix it.). Lots of stained carpets, chairs, walls, etc. Old beds with mattresses past their use-by date. Good, standard restaurant. Not recommended for those looking for a romantic or first-time Irish experience. Good for airport access (it's midway between airport and city).

Best hotel in Dublin

from Ruadh
Stayed overnight at this hotel because of its location to the airport and also because it had been recently decorated. Would class this as the best in Dublin, coming from the country I find that Dublin Hotels really rip you off but this hotel was certainly value for money. The room was decorated brightly and cheered you up when you entered and my husband was over the moon to see a flat screen tv with plenty of channels to watch. The toilletries in the bathroom smelt devine and I even asked housekeeping could I take a few extra for home which they gave me.
We had our dinner in the hotel which was melt in the mouth delicious! Later that night we headed to the downstairs bar and it was great craic there were many people staying at the hotel that were going on holidays the next day so everyones spirits were high.
In the morning the night porter gave us our wake up call and he helped us out with our luggage so nice. I would highly recommened this hotel to everyone.

loving it

We booked the Skylon hotel for our last night in Ireland because it was close to the airport, wich it was. We arrived to the hotel at around 2:30 wich was checking time, our room was not ready we were told it would be ready in about an hour, that was ok because we had things to do. When we returned about 2 hours later, they did not know what room we were in because their computer was down, but they did have our reservation ( so why did they not write the room number on the reservation is beyond me). When we got to the room it was clean at first glance, we found the kettle was black on the inside and still had coffee dripping from the outside of it. Our alarm clock would not set the alarm, as we had to get up early for our flight. We advised the front desk about our alarm problem and they sent the porter up right away, he was really nice, he could not change the clock but did change our kettle and appologized for its condition, he asked us what time we wanted to get up and would make sure that we would get a wake up call, wich we did. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything, there was a lot of noise in the hallways during the night wich kept us awake.
We had stayed at the Camdem Court Hotel for our first 2 nigths in Dublin, what an amazing hotel and very friendly and breakfast is included, buffet style all you can eat. I really don't understand how two hotels owned by the same company can be so different

Very low hygene levels, staff disinterested.

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were attending a trade exhibition for four days, we only stayed two days at the skylon hotel.
We found the condition of the hotel to be quite shocking. From the moment we stepped through the door, we realised there was a housekeeping issue!
There is no responsible housekeeping.
In the 21st century with all the cleaning aids that are on the market, there is simply no excuse for poor hygene standards.
We have stayed in hotels worldwide, only to find something like this on our own doorstep.
We were given mouldy toast, the teapot evidently hadnt seen soap and water for a long time.
The air vents in the dinning room were chocked with grease and years of dust.
The scary thing about this is, if this is what the public see's then what on earth could be lurking in the kitchens unseen.
I would not recomend this hotel to anyone with a weak immune system.
I do not want to scare you but, this day and age one cannot be too careful.
I have sent an email to Brian Mceniff, to share my concern and to complain about this hotel.
His marketing manager offered us one nights free accomodation back at the skylon.
Its down right insulting, we could never stay ther again.

Never Again!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I should have listened to the tips about this hotel. the staff was unhelpful. Our room smelled like smoke. the computer system was down our entire stay. We order room service and never recieved it. The location is not too bad. A cab ride to the city center is about 10 euro and the airport is about 20 euro. The food was not bad just overpriced. The front desk ran out of money so no currency conversions were being made. It just seemed like the hotel was not being managed very well and everthing was broken. Our room was incredibly SMALL. We did not have enough room for our luggage. We checked out early because of this and went back to the states 2 days early. This hotel is only recomended for the tight budgeted.

Loved everything about it!!!

I absolutely loved the Skylon Hotel. I booked it for St Patricks Day 2004.
I dont care what we paid -- and the room was clean.. and we had a great view and walking distance of everything. I am Irish/English American, and my husband is Mexican. And boy did he fit in, and myself as well. He loves to drink and I looked like everyone there. The bar was sooooo friendly. We had conversations with everyone.. and on St Paddys day as they call it--when they leave the parade they take off the green and we didn't -- so that was our only ooops. But they did get a kick out of it. The city is really gorgeous. But honestly-- if there is anyone out there who is thinking of visiting and is of Irish descent. You should go. It is like going home. You will be reminded of old relatives and the accent is very catching. It just sounds like a very quick oky (oklahoma) accent. Don't forget to go to Temple Bar, which is actually a whole neighboorhood of bars. It was crazy that night -- but resembles a spring break scene somewhere here in the states. It was funny -- all the young kids were singing old american rock n' roll songs. Seriously -- teenagers singing elvis and neil diamond and tom jones mixed with britney spears. Don't get into a debate over northern and southern Ireland. Its like the crips and the bloods type thing. I saw two grown men from different sides dressed up in there good clothes -- bite each other. Was rather funny. Will go back very soon.

Top Local Tips for Dublin

Great Night Out Have a drink in the Skylon bar - Its a favourite haunt for TV personalities, politicians and sports stars (Its beside Croke Park). I always have a great nights craic in the Skylon!

Kingfisher Hotel/Restaurant If you want a special fish meal don't bother going to the Kingfisher, in fact if you want a special meal at all don't go. It's cafe food, nothing wrong with it, but cafe food just the same.

Getting around Ask the Porters very helpful
