Historical Traveller Reviews of Conrad Dublin Hotel

Great for the National Concert Hall

from sweeney1
Stayed at the Conrad for one night in December and thought it was an excellent hotel. It doesn't have the individuality of an historic building but I like "all the mod cons" and having just been refitted the bedrooms were superb. A super bathroom, comfortable bed and lots of little nice touches like the turn down service. Only stayed one night but all the staff seemed friendly and efficient although the uniforms were a bit naff!

It is a good location especially for the National Concert Hall. We attended Handel's Messiah and it was great to walk out of the concert and be back at the hotel in under one minute. No taxi or dodgy walk through a late night city centre.

A Lovely Hotel

What can i say except that this is a beautiful hotel in a great location. The rooms are so new and rich. I stayed on HHonors points and it was a great value.

Loved it!

I usually dread travelling to Dublin as the range of hotels are less than average and the 'star' rating they have is totally unrepresentative!

Anyway after much searching I arrived at the Conrad, and reviewed it with Trip Adviser, phew what a relief to get good feedback. Without delay it was booked.

Even as we stopped outside it looked great and was in a lovely quiet street. The lobby area was lovely - (very large) and staff were very friendly. Decor and standard was very high and continued into the bedrooms. The bedroom was very well equipped and very clean and fresh. Comfortable immediately. The bathroom was also amazing, a great size with lovely lovely toiletries.

It is not only all above mentioned but the little extras like replacing towels and turning down the beds that would make us stay here again and again. With all this in mind I would like to say that the location is also great, a few steps from St.Stephens Green and then the shops!

No real bad points, even when the bar was busy and noisy late on it was a good crowd and there was no noise that travelled up to the rooms. Also it is refreshing to book direct with a hotel that gives you the best deal - no need to go searching for a late cheap room - the hotel itself beats all the rates!!!

Not impressed!

My husband and I stayed in the Conrad last weekend 28th October for 2 nights. We are regular visitors to Dublin and decided to try out the Conrad for a change. It was not at all what I expected for a 5* hotel. Infact I was very disappointed. I was allocated a twin room even though I had booked a double room and the room was tiny! It was difficult to open the curtains as they were jammed in behind two chairs which should not have been in the room due to it's size. When we got to the room, I immediately rang down to reception to ask for a room with a King or Double bed. The receptionist told me that they could not move me as the hotel was fully booked out for the weekend. As we had checked in at 12pm, I found it hard to believe that every other guest had already checked in too! So we had to make do with 2 single beds. There was a generator outside our window which hummed all night so both my husband and I had 2 terrible nights sleep. So much for a relaxing weekend away in a 5* hotel!!!
Having said all this, I have to say that the rooms are beautifully maintained (if you can get over feeling like a sardine) and the beds are extra comfortable. The hotel is perfectly located for those interested in shopping, and the breakfast is great. However, be advised that breakfast is buffet style, because the restaurant staff don't tell you this! It's only when you realise that you've been sitting there for 15 minutes and everybody else is eating and you're not, that you cop on to the buffet!! We saw several people on our 2nd morning waiting to be served so we told them!!
Would definitely NOT stay at the Conrad again as there are far too many superior 4* hotels in Dublin city centre which cost a lot less.

Excellent business hotel near St Stephens Green

Recently renovated to a high standard. Excellent service. Good facilities.

Great Hotel

We stayed at the Conrad Hilton July 5th through the 11th 2005.

Excellent attention to detail. Turn down service with the robes and slippers, water and chocolates.

Sound proof rooms with the DVD is first class

Wine and chocolates upon arrival in the room is a nice touch for Diamond HHonors members.

Great location to downtown, Saint Stephens Green Park and shopping on Grafton Street.

But where is the pool and sauna ?

Would recommend eating breakfast at a local place, cost 100 euro for 4 people

What a gem!

Spent three nights at the Conrad in early June. Hotel was very clean, modern and well appointed. Room was oversized by EU standards with large bath, sitting area and large desk with work space. King bed was very comfortable and covered with quality sheets and duvee. Bath had shower tub combo but was oversized as well with great pressure and plenty of hot water. While this was not a suite by hotel standards, the fire exit map on the back of the door showed this room to be quite larger than some others on the same floor. Ask questions if you are not satisfied with the size of your room.

Turndown nightly was great. Slippers, bath robes, chocolate on pillow and bottles of water for bedside were all nice touches. Room was very clean.

Hotel lobby was nicely decorated and had a nice lounge with table service for light menu and drinks. Staff was always prompt and courteous and prices were reasonable. Had breakfast at the restaurant twice only becuase we were given free coupons for it. Our rate at booking did not indicate that included breakfast but we were given the vouchers anyway. Would NOT reccomend eating here if you are paying for it.

Hotel location is SE of Stephens Green. Dublin is very self contained so everything is 10-15 minute walk. This is a business area however so be prepared for most businesses around the hotel to be closed on the weekends. Each day started and ended with a stroll through the park to get a tour bus or walk to another part of town. We were not at all bothered by the location but if you want to step out of the door into the action you should look elsewhere.

Overall, could not have been more impressed with this hotel for the value. As a point of reference, I travel the world frequently and stay in the equivalent of U.S. 4 and 5 star hotels. The Conrad will live easily live up to those standards.

What you expect of a Conrad

This is my second stay in this hotel. Originally stayed back in February while the hotel was under renovation and was not impressed (see my review: "Don't go at the moment".
We got invited back by one of the managers there who I had spoken to last time when I had problems and had offered a complimentary stay next time.
Upon arrival I must say how impressed I was with the new look. The lobby is very nice and leads back into a large bar and the restaurant.
We had a suite on the 3rd floor that faced the opera house. It had a large lounge area with a desk, TV, bar area, and sofa and chairs (and chocolates when we arrived). The bedroom has large king bed, sofa area, TV. The furniture and ornaments where all new and stunning. Off the bedroom was a large bathroom with separate shower and bath and filled with Temple Spar products.
Turndown each night was very good with the bed made, robes and slippers put out and water as well as the stereos in both rooms put on and bathroom made to look great again.
We ate in the restaurant the first night and must say that it was excellent food and not that bad value (if the tables are a little close in some parts). We also had afternoon tea on the Sunday in the bar / lounge area and again of a very high standard and good service.
Breakfast in the mornings is served in the restaurant and there is a great selection of hot and cold food and staff always on hand just encase you want anything else.
Having stayed before and not been happy at all I must now say that this hotel is now a very nice 5 star hotel and well worth thinking about if you are going to Dublin. It is now what I would consider a Conrad hotel to be.

Had a super stay

Stayed six nights here with breakfast included and were quite pleased. The Air Coach (E 12 roundtrip) stops on the street right behind the hotel. The concierge/hall porters were friendly and helpful, as were the serving staff and the housekeeping staff. The room wasn't large but had all the amenities except a coffee pot. Enjoyed the location--all the places we wanted to walk to were no further than a mile away.

Outstanding customer service

I was a guest (along with a friend of mine, xxxxx xxxxx, in whose name the room was registered) for several days in April, departing the morning of April 20. We had an early flight from Dublin airport and left the hotel quite leisurely in order to make our flight. When we got to the airport I realized that I had left all my travel documents--tickets, passport, and even a good amount of cash/traveler's checks--in the hotel safe. After the initial panic wore off I tried to find a solution. We had almost 2 hours before departure to Amsterdam but that still would not have been enough time to get back into the city, get the documents and return in time to make the flight.

Luckily I had a cell phone and called the hotel for their assistance. They immediately realized my predicament and acted with the necessary urgency. The gentleman at the desk (either xxxxxxxx or xxxxxxx--sorry I forget) got to a bellman, they took the docs out of the room and had the suggestion of putting them in a cab. They charged the cab to my friend's credit card, got the driver's name, company, cell number and sent him on his way to the airport with a sign to hold up. Hotel staff were in constant contact with me by phone, acted with the necessary sense of urgency and security (after all it was a passport, tickets, etc.) and before long I had everything I needed. They had sealed the case that I kept it all in into a large envelope, stapled it (something I did not think of) and did everything that I could have asked for. Even more...10 minutes after I had the package and was already in the security line I received a call from the hotel (again I forget, but I believe the woman's name began with a D) to make sure I had everything. All I could say was "thank you" over and over again but they truly were a lifesaver.

I work in marketing for a carrier in the wireless phone industry. One of my company's selling points is excellent customer service. I know how hard it is to find people who know what that is and then deliver on the promise. You should be very proud of the staff at the Conrad Dublin as they understand excellent customer service. By the way, the rest of our hotel experience was of the same high quality.

Once again, please pass on my thanks and appreciation to the property's management and staff. They turned what could have been a nightmare into just one and a half hours of stress.
