I have been in Dublin for first time and I have live on Caulfield's Hotel. I have many good memories from this hotel and the staff have been very helpfull and nice and I hope I comes back again to Caulfield's. The food was terrible and I could not like the Hotel took people in from the street and let them stay in the bar and drinking. I hope I comes back again to Caulfield's and I will have many memories and 1 person will always be in thoughts from this hotel, I meet a very nice and kind Lady there. My Best, Regards Kaare Nicolaisen

For those travelling on a budget, I would reccomend Caulfields, the hotel represented value for money in a city where hotel prices are extremely expensive.
If you're looking for somewhere smack bang in Temple Bar, though, forget it.
The room was basic, yet clean, with UK television (handy if you want to watch EastEnders before hitting the town).
My only quibble was that the hotel was billed as being "Off O'Connell Street" implying that it was a stone's throw from the city centre itself.
It was as much "Off O'Connell Street" as Deansgate in Manchester.
Although the location is classed as D1, the hotel is a good bit out of the city centre - and a long walk back from Temple Bar.
Girls on their own, or those wearing high-heeled shoes would be well advised to take a taxi back.
What we found was that our 5 Dublin Bus Rover came in handy after checking in - there are bus stops outside the hotel - the 16 taking you to O'Connell Street, and the 13 took us to Dame Street/South Great George's Street.
Can't comment on breakfast as I overslept - however, there are various shops and takeaways in the vicinity as well as the bar food.
I also spent a long time tracking down an off-licence, save yourselves time and bring your own, or alternatively, an off licence is to be found by going right from the hotel, then taking the next right to the bottom of the street.
In terms of being gay friendly, the hotel staff didn't appear to be mind one bit, although reception did re-confirm we wanted a double room. In case they thought we were brothers or a pair of centre forwards for Blackburn Rovers presumably.
On the whole though, the service was good and friendly. One I would reccomend, after pointing out the pros and cons.

Hotel pleasant. Breakast could be improved. Staff friendly but did not like how they turn off the heating at a main switch behind reception when you went out of your room and had to keep going and asking them to put it back on (it was february)

Even if I saw that the rating for this place is an amazing 1 I rate it with ten because of the people that come there, the staff of the pub and the hotel, the atmosphere and many other reasons that makes Caulfields Hotel a special and nice place for me.
Would not use the hotel again

Clean rooms and help full staff the bar was always shut. Its a 20 min walk into temple bar at night had to get taxis back as i did not like the walk in the dark streets as the hotel is a bit out of town. The breakfast was very poor for an irish breakfast. I would not use the hotel again as it was to far away for me and the food was dissapointing.
Not as close as they say

Very clean hotel staff ok bar quite nice, if they give you a front room then let me warn you that Wednesday @ 07:30am is the beer delivery day and they make a lot of noise.
The Hotel is about 30 mins walk from the centre of town and temple bar area.
We had a great time and would use the hotel again.
