Just come back from a short break with family. We found it to be clean and comfy. The staff were friendly and the meals lovely. Would go again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Butlers Town House Hotel

This hotel definitely was good but I don't think it's worth the money. Really did expect a few more luxuries! Our bedroom was quite small and the bathroom really was in need of refurbishment. Breakfast buffet was quite limited but choice of cooked breakfasts from the kitchen was good. Parking space is extremely limited and you have to move your car to let others out!

All in all, don't expect a great hotel but an upmarket B&B.

Just Awful!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is dreadful and the brochure they issue is a total misrepresentation. As for service we were not welcomed by owner but only directed from reception to find the room ourselves therefore no one to show how so-called heating worked. You cannot have an evening meal as the brochure states, the afternoon tea does not consist of wonderful scones and selection of teas (no choice offered, tea stewed)!! The sandiches were badly curled at edges and looked at least 1 day old, our knife was covered in what I presume was butter!! On turning down bed we found human hair (not ours!) and holes in sheet. The room we were given was tiny and absolutely feezing cold, so bad in fact we left after two hours! Sorry to say we certainly did not receive any individual attention as stated in brochure. Oh and the smell! Awful! Fusty! Plug-in fresheners everywhere.

Nice but not great

We just returned from a week in Ireland, two day of which were spent at the Butlers Townhouse. There are good things and bad about the hotel...I think most of the bad stems from our tiny tiny room....we had booked our room in December and thought we'd have a larger room..but it wasn't to be...we could not open our suitcases on the floor..and the closet only had room for three/four hangers...the bathroom was very nice. We were on the ground floor, near reception..so perhaps the smallness of the room was due to it's location. The room was clean enough...a bit worn around the edges. The a/c wasn't really adequate...so we had to leave the windows open...which kept us awake due to street noise.
The good-the staff was very friendly, and the drawing room/lobby is wonderful. They have an honor bar system and 24 hour room service...so sitting in the lobby having snacks and a drink was very nice.
The location was fine....a quick DART trip to the center of town...but far enough away to avoid all of the traffic.

Small and personal!

We stayed here last weekend and it was fantastic. Wonderful service, great room with a four-poster bed, lovely lounge to relax in and good location - a 15 minute walk from the city, or 7 Euros in a taxi. It was nice to be away from the noise of Dublin 1 and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in Ballsbridge so you do not have to go into town. Also easy to take the DART service out of the city from here - the fishing village of Howth is worth visiting if you want to escape the city.

Simply the Best!

This hotel was absolutely fantastic, the staff were wonderful, the rooms were immaculate, the breakfast was exceptional.

This is a hotel that we will most definitely return to. Originally we had been booked in to a neighbouring hotel, which was horrific! Butlers saved the day, they went out of their way help us out of our unfortunate situation, the staff are a credit to the hotel.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in the Ballsbridge area.

Beautiful Townhouse

We went to Ireland for 2 weeks and stayed in 6 different hotels/guest houses/B&Bs, and this was my favorite place. The rooms are beautiful, individually decorated, and all have AC. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel staff was great and very accomodating.

I only gave this hotel 4/5 because of the distance from the center of town. Depending on where you're going, the walk is 20-45 minutes. It's also not to safe to walk back from town at night, but cabs were easy to find.

Historical and lovely

I found Butler House to be just lovely. Our room was really a mini-suite--there was an entryway, a small sitting room, a cute little staircase leading to a HUGE bathroom, and of course a generously-sized bedroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful; whatever ill-mannered people the other reviewer met must be gone, because both the people we dealt with were delightful. The historical old grounds were nice (easy walk to the castle), and the separate breakfast restaurant was classy.

Because it's such an old property, it didn't have that new-and-shiny, spic-and-span appearance of a more modern hotel, but it definitely felt well taken care of. I would definitely go back. The private car park was a definite plus.

Absolutely horrified. I would give it zero yellow dots, but the computer won't let me enter zero. My husband and I just returned from the UK and Ireland. No way is this by any standard a 4-5 star or "luxury" accommodation. Anyplace where you find bugs in your bed should never be a place of good distinction. Period. Read on to hear about that.

First, its location is further from the city center than I thought.
It's a very brisk 20+ minute walk to the sights you want to see downtown. This alone was just disappointing but of course tolerable.

Although we reserved a non-smoking room, when we were shown to our room I noted an ashtray on our desk and they had opened the windows to probably air it out. When I explained this to the hotel worker, she said "all rooms are basically non-smoking. The ashtray is there just in case people need it." Then, it wouldn't be a non-smoking room, would it? Also, it was very dusty. There was almost enough dust on the telephone and nightstand to draw your name in it. Plus, our view consisted of the garbage cans outside in the alley. We asked for another room. This next one looked clean at least and had no ashtray so we dropped our stuff off, and when we returned from sightseeing, took a 2 hour nap. I was pretty itchy and thought it was maybe the blanket, but getting up I noticed the bugs. Yes, Bugs! We were both crawling with little bugs and found them all over the headboard and under the sheets of our bed. I have never been so disgusted in my life. It was late enough (about 7pm) that the manager wasn't on site, but when my husband brought the ass't manager in to see the bugs, he said they've never had that problem in that room before. This begs the question: have they had this problem in other rooms? Luckily we found another place that could take us on short notice and of course we got out of there as fast as we could (after I showered the bugs off of course).
I'm still itchy thinking about it.

Best hotel ever!

I absoloutely loved my stay at the Butler Town House, it's the most fantastic hotel, loads of character - each bedroom is individually designed - and the breakfasts are amazing! Only complaint would be the location - not exactly central, but only a short walk to a train - five mins to the centre of Dublin.

Beautifully decorated! Good location!

This hotel was fantastic, and a great value. The owner greets you when you walk through the door, as you are invited to retire momentarily in the gorgeously decorated parlor. Our room was a king room and had all the comforts you would expect in the US. The room was decorated in palacial style; the bathroom like a european spa. Breakfast is served in the lower level garden area, and the service was great! Fabulous traditional Irish breakfast, served with breads, jams and cereals, endless juices and strong, smooth coffee. Drinks are served in the parlor at your request, while sitting in front of a warm fireplace.
It's located just blocks from the American Embassy, and within walking distance of Dublin attractions like St. Stephens Green and Trinity College. Great Irish pub just around the corner. We never had to hire a taxi, except to get to the airport. Whenever we get a chance to return to Dublin, we will certainly stay at Butler's again.
