Safe and Convenient in Dublin

My trip to Dublin was the first time I travelled alone and booked a hotel through the net. I chose Bewley's Hotel Ballsbridge on the net because of its proximity to Royal Dublin Society, the convention site. Booking online was a breeze. Questions were handled efficiently. The hotel was on the hotel-airport shuttle route and so travelling to the airport and back was easy. The price of the rooms was fixed. I was amazed at how good the rooms were for the rate that I paid. The room was very comfortable, furnished with the usual amenities plus an in-room safe. The bed was very comfortable and welcoming after the long trip. The interior and the exterior of the hotel were simply marvelous. Free internet access is available at the lobby along with information on tours around Dublin. Travelling to the city center is no problem as the bus stops in front of the hotel. Check-in and check out were very efficient. The staff was very helpful and accomodating too. The hotel made traveling alone all the more safe.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Bewleys Hotel Ballsbridge

Great hotel near RDS

from Sheila24
Great hotel near RDS event arena. Hotel was very clean and comfortable with friendly staff who found a room for us earlier than the normal 1400 check-in time as we'd arrived on an early morning flight from the airport thanks to the regular air coach bus which stops outside the hotel. Had breakfast in the downstairs restaurant while we were waiting - though found it rather pricey.

We managed to get tickets for the Leinster v Bath rugby game at the RDS arena which was just behind the hotel.

Several excellent bars and restaurants within walking distance of hotel which we used rather than having to rely on public transport or taxis to go into the city centre at night which is too far to really walk.

Great value, comfortable and clean hotel

from eurofrog
I do not understand the (few) negative comments made about this hotel. We stayed at the Bewley's for two nights, the room was large and comfortable, spotless and suitably equipped and all the staff were very friendly. The beds are comfortable and the hotel is well kept. O'Connell's restaurant in the basement is a fine and convenient option for dining if you're hungry and not in the city centre, or if you arrive at the hotel in the evening. They provide very good value for money menus (the restaurant is not part of the Hotel, though.)

As for the few criticisms made by other reviewers: true, parking is not for free. However, the hotel does not make a secret of this. On the contrary, anyone who read their website before booking (which is always a good idea!) would have been aware of the fact (and let's face it, €6.50 per day is not that expensive for a hotel car park - on one occasion, I've been asked to pay £18 per day in London.)

True, the Bewley's does not have little baskets with complementary shower gel and single-use shower caps. There is some soap attached to the wall next to the sink, though. If you don't want to bring your own shower gel, or if you feel you have to nick the little bottles of hotel shampoo, then go and find a different hotel that will probably charge you at least twice as much as the Bewley's for a night. However, buying your own shower gel at Boot's would be cheaper...

All in all, for the rate of €99 a night per room, this is a great hotel, much better than many more expensive ones I stayed at. Go for it. The only slight drawback is the location: although surrounded by lots of trees and located in an upmarket part of the city, you either need the energy to walk for about 20-30 minutes until you reach the centre, or you have to rely on the (not-so-frequent) DART train service or the local buses. However, it seemed that the main purpose of the latter having a time table was for the passengers to know that (and by how much) the bus was late. Nonetheless, it is not difficult to get into the centre. Alternatively, there are always taxis, which was a good option for returning after a night out. There is a night bus going to the hotel which costs €4 per person, but we only paid €7.40 for a taxi from Merrion Square in the middle of the night - and there were two of us.

s Delight

from Jaytraveller
This place was a haven, situated in a leafy Ballsbridge, on the Embassy belt, this hotel was a delight at 99 Euros. The bedroom wasn't over the top, but had all I required, and the bed was the comfiest ever, so much so I still think of it fondly most nights since my return. Bewley's is spotless, both in its bedrooms and public areas. O'Connells was also very good, but the breakfast was a little poor. I would certainly stay here again. The price and concept is just right.

Excellent vallue in ideal location

from Johnnymach
Took my 3 grandsons to Dublin for the Soccer International last week and stayed in Bewleys, Ballsbridge for the first time. It will not be the last.

The hotel is situated in beautiful grounds in the best location in Dublin.

The staff were most helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and very clean.

The restaurant/ bar O'Connells, is excellent, good food, though the bar could not be described as lively, it is ideal for a couple of drinks in comfort before retiring.

I would recommend Bewleys to anyone with family visiting Dublin.

Liked it alot

from dpschmidt
stayed in bewleys ballsbridge for five nights and really enjoyed. the place of the hotel is very good-just a short stroll from the dart-station away or via bus just a minute to walk. if you want you can even go for a longer walk to the city or - to the sea (well this takes it's time).

one small drawback is the fact breakfast is not included...;-)

Great Value in a beautiful building

from nobodys-child
We'd a lovely night in Bewleys. The building is beautiful, the room was a good size, had the ameneties you'd expect (iron, trouser press, hair dryer, safe) and the bed was huge - though the two separate duvets was a bit odd.

There was plenty of parking and although you have to pay for it, €6.35 for 24 hours is very reasonable.

One of the earlier reviews claimed there was no soap or shampoo, this isn't true. They are provided from dispensers on the wall, so while you don't get to take them home with you, you don't go dirty either.

The food in the restaurant was uninspiring but at less than 28 euro for four courses, it was good value.

Disappointed by Bewleys, sort out the parking!

from A TripAdvisor Member
On the face of it, a great deal, but the shine quickly fades when you're asked to pay for the priviledge of parking in the guest car park! Unbelieveable. The rooms are not bad, but there are precious few extras. It all seems a bit mean not to offer soaps and gels. Doesn't do much to dispel the "rip-off Dublin" reputation. On the plus side, the leafy Ballsbridge surroundings are a joy.

Always My First Choice!

I have stayed in Bewleys approx 10 times since it opened, it is very reasonable in price, the location is very good, the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I would always recommend this hotel to anyone staying in dublin, be it families or couples. Ive stayed in much more highly rated/expensive hotels than this one but havnt found Bewleys lacking behind in any capactity.

from welshgirl
what a great hotel at 99 euros a night for any room we were lucky to have a kingsize deluxe which was lovely and spacious
the beds were the most comfortable i think i've ever stayed in with pillows and a duvet to die for
the bathroom was spotless as was the whole hotel
just outside is a bus stop with regular services into the city centre and the aircoach also stops here
the ballsbridge area is lovely
we ate in the restaurant on our last night and had the most fantastic meal with really efficient and friendly service
it cost 27.50 euros each for 3 courses and coffee which is very reasonable for the area
the bar area is very nicely laid out and we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly
will definately be going back
excellent location for landsdowne road rugby ground

Ideal Hotel

from Peadar85
I can't understand the guy from Alabama slating this hotel. He must stay in Presidental suites wherever he goes! I paid in cash and had no problems with this. I paid €99 2 days before my stay where as other hotels accepted credit cards only. The room was spacious with tea/coffee making facilites and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Everything was clean and there was a safe for valuables. Breakfast was fine. A large selection for €8.95. I would definately return to Bewleys.

Top Local Tips for Dublin

Boxty magic If you brave the touristy scrum in Temple Bar try and eat at Gallaghers boxty House. It is a bit of a cliche but the Irish themed food and friendly Irish staff are lovely.

Literary pub crawl The Literary Pub Crawl provides fun for anyone, even those who don't drink or aren't readers.

Gruel it's not rather than go to the very expensie mermaid cafe on dame st, go next door to its sister cafe - charmingly ramshakle, with origial art on te walls and a fireplace adorned with Worhol soup cans, it serves hearty but sophisticated food all prepared freshly.
