The general feeling we got from the stay at the Academy was one of feeling like we were still at home, everything was spotlessly clean, and all the staff we spoke to were very helpful and very friendly. We would definitely stay at the Academy again some day. Well done to everyone at the hotel for making our first visit to Ireland one we shall never forget.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western Premier Academy Plaza Hotel
Decent hotel, service terrible
from bznchzOur room opened out onto what could only be best described as a building site/nightclub smoking zone. Which meant building noise all day and loud/drinking/nichtclub noises until late. The bathroom had a cracked floor tile and was dusty in many places and bare wires stuck out of the wall on the corridor in numerous places. But these weren't our major issues, all of them would have been bearable if we had received any degree of service from the hotel.
When arriving back for a meal at 930pm no food was available at all, even though the abacus restaurant was open until 11pm. We were told the chef's had gone home and the restaurant booked up. When we asked if room service was available again no was the answer, there was nobody in the hotel who could even make a sandwich. To make matters worse when getting up on the Saturday morning (after not eating the previous night) there was a 20 minute wait for breakfasts as all the tables were busy.
Amazingly the service got worse as on returning home I complained to the hotel via email and by personal letter and after 5 weeks I am yet to receive a reply.
To their credit Best Western head office dealt with me superbly after I contacted them and they couldn't understand why the hotel hadn't contacted me despite head office contacting them to do so.
All in all a very disappointing stay to consider it was 200euro (£150) for a 2 day stay and a world renowned branded hotel. It is not somewhere I would stay in again nor would I recommend it as somewhere to stay merely down to the shocking service I received.
nice hotel
from jennifer_furlong_86Comfortable Stay - Excellent Value
from TPlattCornwallGreat Hotel for Dublin
from KBladeThe hotel did not dissapoint, it is located just off O'Connell Street and is in easy walking distance from the River,Temple Bar, Grafton Street and St Stephens Green. The Airlink bus from the airport also stops on O'Connell street which, once again, makes the location ideal.
The room was adequate in size (we had a twin room) and the beds were comfortable. The room was very clean and remained so throughout our stay. There was not a view from the room, but as we did not spend much time in there this did not matter. The room had a flat screen TV showing all the major Irish and British TV channels, there were also German and Italian channels.
The bathroom was also pleasant and the shower was very powerful. However it was a little cramped and I would advise caution opening the door as it only narrowly misses the sink. Both my friend and I trapped our fingers in this gap when half asleep!
The breakfast buffet would accommodate most tastes it included fresh fruit, yoghurt, croissants, french bread, toast and a cooked items (bacon, eggs etc) we ate breakfast everyday and always left full and happy.
All in all this is a great hotel if you are in Dublin to explore the city. It is not overly expensive but offers great value for money compared to some B&Bs. I would definitely recommend it and would return.

The Princess and the Pea
from Vanessa5076There were a few little niggles with our stay, like the quilt cover being slightly ripped, and not having a remote for the TV (only a keyboard to work it). These were sorted out really quickly by the staff who were extremely helpful with any queries we had.
However, the bed was like something out of the princess and the pea fairytale. The bed was very comfortable, although strangely for a king size bed, there were two single quilts.
The bathroom was okay, although slightly on the small side.
I will definitely be staying at the hotel again.
great value, good location
from SurriyaFantastic central hotel
from Louise92The airport bus stop is just on the adjacent road.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is an exceptional standard, as it's just been renovated. There's free internet in the lobby.
Plenty of hot water in the shower (no bath). Lovely modern bathroom and one of the most comfortable double beds I've ever slept in!
They have a large flat screen TV with some Sky channels.
I'd absolutely recommend this hotel which cost us about £70/night.

Top Local Tips for Dublin
Super restaurant Fallon & Byrne is above their very upscale 'food hall' (grocery) in central Dublin. There were 6 of us for dinner on a Monday evening. It was a quiet evening and we had superb service and an excellent meal. It was somewhat expensive, but was definitely worth it. The food was served and presented very professionally. The portions perfect, with the exception of a large starter Caesar salad - I asked for extra plates and we all shared! The entire evening was great!
Great local music at O'Donahues O'Donahue's on Merrion St by St Stephen's Green. Genuine Irish pub with local musicians playing nightly. Outdoor area really cute with heaters for any smokers. Great time.
Avoid the Guiness Storehouse. Pricey (14 Euros) and nothing but a museum with a nice view from the pub on top. You don't get to tour any of the actual brewery. Instead go to the Jamieson's old brewery. Also a museum, but cheaper and the crowds are smaller. The view from the rooftop pub, however, is just as nice!
