pure luxury, (lmcgl)

from lmcgl
the overall impression of this hotel is, wow! the interior design is very modern and contempory. the rooms are spacious with an amazing view of the boyne river, outstanding churches that glow by night and a train bridge crossing the river. the beds are very luxurious .
the cocktail bar in the 'd' is very good , great range of cocktails each very well presented. sitting at the terrace in the mid summer seemed as if you were on a cruise liner at sea, as you look over the river boyne.
The food in the bar is fine, however i was more impressed with the a la carte menu. every piece of food i placed in my mouth was unbelievable tasty!
room service throughout the night was very handy and staff were friendly and endlessly at your beckon call.

A lot done - more to do

from TAJK
First thing to mention is that this hotel is really good value. Room rates are resonable and the standard of room is excellent, bright, new , moden , clean, comfortable bed and flat screen tv. Nice. The check in staff were nice and friendly. Downsides - the food in the restauant was not brilliant. I guess with Christmas season upon us this can happen , although their restaurant was not full. I had a lovely starter but the chicken main course wasn't up to much. The restaurant was a bit cold, lots of glass, it was lashing rain outside. Also it is open plan to the bar so we could hear the live music from the bar. Wasn't very intimate. Other thing was that when we came back to the hotel later that nigt the residence bar was mayhem. The girls behind the bar were very stressed and there didn't seem to be any door policy with people walking in from the street through the smoking area. Buffet breakfast was average plenty of everthing though, although coudn't get a hot cup of tea, all the pots came out luke warm....

Fantastic hotel

We went to The d hotel for my birthday and it was a brilliant weekend! The decor is really modern and i wanted to take the Laura Ashley throw in our room home with me - along with everything else! We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night and the food was out of this world and well worth the money. The bar has a nice atmosphere too. The staff where friendly and helpful and suggested places for us to eat on the Sunday night. We would definitely reccommend it to everyone!

Great service

This is a great new hotel in the centre of Drogheda. The hotel is lovely and modern but not too minimalist. I had a lovely big spacious room overlooking the River Boyne. It had massive floor to ceiling windows all along one wall so the room was really bright, yet the curtains kept the light out totally so I wasn't woken up by the sun light. The bathroom was very nice and clean and there was lots of closet space. The staff were all very friendly and approchable. I locked myself out of my room and a porter was there in seconds with a new key card for me. breakfast was great and so was lunch. The residents stayed open till we went to bed at 5am and the waiter was always very helpful. My whole stay was lovely and good value for money.

Nice hotel but appalling restaurant

from MollyGuck
I recently had a 2 night stay at the 'd' hotel in Drogheda. The hotel itself was fine - very clean and modern.
We won't, however, be returning due to a truly awful experience in the hotel restaurant. Both service and food were seriously lacking. We arrived at 9.30p.m. and were shown to a lovely table beside the aquarium. After 10mins of musing over the menu the waiter arrived with water for the table. He asked if we were ready to order. 'Yes', we responded. The waiter then disappeared from the table and did not return. At 10p.m. we caught the attention of a waitress and asked to order some wine. When the wine was being poured we were asked if our food order had been taken yet. 'No', we responded and once again the waitress left the table but did not return.

At 10:15p.m. another cheerful waitress arrived at our table with a bright smile to ask if everything was ok. I asked if it was possible to place our order as we had been seated for a full 45mins. Finally our order was taken. When the food arrived it was not worth the wait. Three grey, lime cured prawns sitting atop cubes of pineapple looked wholly unappetising. So much so that my partner decided not to eat them and stuck to the bread instead. In fairness, the cheerful waitress offered a complimentary drink as a consolation but we refused, happy to accept our mistake in ordering the dish. My tian of crab was very average and too large a helping. It was completely overcomplicated by a big scoop of sorbet sitting on top and it in no way complimented the dish.

On to the mains we went and were just as disappointed. My partner ordered a rare fillet of beef. It was served medium which ruined it for him and an unremarkable sauce did nothing to save it. My salmon was virtually tasteless. The orzo rice with which it was served was very bland although I did enjoy a hint of fennel in one particular mouthful.

We really should have stopped there, but my partner being of the optimistic variety, decided he couldn't resist the temptation of warm chocolate fondant. It looked stunning on the plate and the shot glass of dark cherry sauce was a nice addition. However, the fondant itself tasted mainly of egg and little or no chocolate. I had a coffee which was so bitter I couldn't finish it.
The only enjoyable thing about this experience was a lovely bottle of Wolf Blass Bilyara Shiraz 2004.
I had intended to express my dissatisfaction about the restaurant when asked the mandatory 'did you enjoy your stay?' as I was checking out of the hotel. Unsurprisingly, the receptionist didn't bother to ask!

Mixed thoughts but service great

from logonmar
Have to say the receptionist that checked me in one evening and also checked me out the following morning was excellent. Very helpful and when I enquired about getting a morning newspaper at 7:00AM she went out of her way to get one and broiught it to my table.
Room fine but unexceptional. Big drawback was lack of air conditioning and even an open window didn't even reduce temperature sufficiently to permit an easy nights sleep. For a new hotel would have expected air conditioning.
Hotel unexceptional but receptionist made it a good experience overall

Wonderful experience

from diannemcg
We were staying elsewhere but weren't happy. I found this on the internet and gave them a call. They were extremely courteous and booked two rooms for us. Our stay was wonderful. The staff is exceptional and couldn't do enough for us. Any request we made was immediately addressed. The rooms were so comfortable but a little warm as the weather was quite warm and there was no air conditioning. They said they are looking in to this now.
The restaurant was surperb. We ate there 2 nights and both nights the food and service was excellent.
They are doing much developemnt in town so the views were not the greatest but will be in the future.
It's an ideal place for touring the Boyne Valley.

Simply Awful

from Cabriolet
We decided to stay in this hotel in June for one night. We booked two rooms one for my partner and I and one for our two teenage children. It took us 4 attemps to book in. Apparently the rooms had not been vacated and the reception staff quiet simply really did not care. We were told "to go and have a look around the shopping centre". Eventually after 3 hours we got one room between the 4 of us and were told to wait in the one room that was ready. One hour later I had to ring reception and was advised the room still was not ready, at this stage it was six o'clock. Again the reception staff were very very rude. Eventually the other room was ready. Rooms were really nice and very clean. We headed down to the main restaurant for dinner - it was very nice but also very very expensive. The breakfast the next morning was an absolute disaster, we arrived down at 9 O'Clock and not only was there no table, when we eventually got one, there was literally nothing left to eat, even down to the bread. It was an absolute disgrace, and to be fair to the hotel they agreed with me and they refunded me the money that was charged for the breakfast. I would not stay in this hotel again and would not recommend it to any one else. It is a joke to say it is a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in better B & B. They definitely need to take a look at their receptions staff they are quiet simply awful.

Really nice

from Ger75
Stayed two nights in the d in Aug 2006. Really competitive rate of €109 2BB and 1Dinner. This is a modern hotel situated next to a shopping centre. However this shouldn't put you off as the rooms are spotless and staff and are very friendly and helpful. We found the food absolutely fab even if the Restaurant service left a little bit to be desired. Stayed in alot of Hotels in Ireland which have charged a lot more for a lot less. If in the area I recommend this Hotel.

Wonderful stay

from pierre45
We stayed for 1 night, after having spent 10 days in Ireland and n.Ireland.
This was our best experience. The hotel was modern and our room had a balcony overlooking the river. It was cool at night despite the heat. The best was the staff ,helpful, friendly and accomodating. We had dinner at the hotel. The food was above average but not special. The attempt was for modern cuisine .
I have to say that beeing from paris ,perhaps i had very high standards.Probably its the best in the area. Also at 110 E the room was good value, specially for Ireland
