I have just spent a wonderful few days at Ballinalacken castle. The accommodation was superb and the food was of the highest standard, no doubt down to their accomplished chef. The kindness, courtesy and friendliness of the staff unforgetable. The critical review was obviously written by someone who didn't stay at the hotel and judging by it's tone, fotunate for the other guests that this was the case.
Peaceful heaven

Despite the miserable summer weather, hectic work and home commitments, we chose this hotel for a weekend away. All the staff were wonderful, our four poster bedroom became our little haven from the rest of the world. We had a quiet night sleep and then a relaxed Irish breakfast. As an extra, Declan the owner, showed us up and around the old castle. I would definitley stay here again. If you want to get way from the city and visit the coast and have some quiet time , check in here. The hotel is set in its own ground away from the tourist hotels,B&B's and hostels, so you can use it as a base to visit the local sites, but then come back to a pint in the bar and waist expanding food in the resturant.
Excellent accomodation, very friendly staff and suberb food

I have never written a review before but was upset to see the only one entry about this wonderful gem of a hotel. How anybody could not rate this as one of the best places to stay on the West Coast of Ireland is unbelievable.
I would fear for my life to stay in this hotel

A lovely picturesque location set in the middle of a meadow with a view of a castle. We travelled up to the hotel to have a look at the grounds. Once the car stopped my girlfriend remarked on how it looked like a very nice place to stay. I agreed and thought we would come back shortly and stay a weekend in the hotel. The first thing that struck me on getting out of the car was the smell of sewage. I said hello twice to a man as he passed, with no response. We decided to go up the path to look at the castle. The castle was gated off with a private property sign. I attempted to look over the wall to see the castle when the man from earlier started shouting at me. He preceded to shout curse and grab my arm.
Looking over a wall is not trespassing. I thought the man was going to hit me. Shouting and assaulting potential guests does not give people a good view of Ireland. I would fear for my life to stay in this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Doolin

Doolin taxis are easy Although Doolin is very small, B&B biz and police cracking down on drinking/driving means good taxi business. You'll have no prob getting a ride home from that pub outing. And remember: DON'T drive after drinking!

Doolin and the Cliffs of Moharl I would recommend arriving on the coast as early as possible as the tour busses which come after 10:00 AM or so detract a bit from the atmosphere. Be sure to orally confirm any ferry arrangements to the Aran Islands. Our ticket had incorrect departure times from both the mainland and the island we visited.

The Mecca of Traditional Irish Music Doolin is known as THE spot to hear traditional Irish music. They take their playing very seriously and the three pubs in town are always teeming with musicians and lovers of Irish music. Get there early to get a table as it will fill up quickly near showtime. as a fan of Irish music, I was in awe of the level of these musicians...sort of like seeing U2 after only seeing a U2 cover band at the county fair.
