This hotel was the best I have ever stayed in the staff were excellent and could not do enough for us. The service and food was excellent, the spa was pure luxury. There was nothing about this hotel which I could fault and what value for money Out of 10, it gets a 10. We will definitely return - an experience worth repeating.

Getting better by the month- give this Castle a 2nd chance.
from Quality-men
This property is recently opened & as any well seasoned traveller understands will have teething problems. We have been here twice and on returning the second time found the Hotel to be improved greatly. The Hotel is constructed from a ruined Castle, now beautifully restored, a stable block & a modern but sympathic extension housing the majority of the rooms. In the walled garden you will also find various Garden Suites & a luxurious Spa (to rival the best in Ireland). There is also a very modern Restaurant & Ballroom contructed to the Left of the main Castle.
The rooms are beautifully appointed and the Castle itself is a wonderful truly inspired blend of the period original & the contemporary. The Restaurant is improving, serving Irish cuisine with an International flare, great wine list and good service. There are a lot of comments especially from locals about the Hotel, due to the fact that the Castle has been part of their Heritage for years, but many of them have not visited, so their comments may be discounted from the outset.
For those people who enjoy, Ashford, Dromoland, Castle Leslie, Adair, please give this one a go. Again as you read on many reviews, Ireland needs some competition to these established properties, who believe that they can charge what they want for mediocre service & cold bedrooms.
Take your significant other & enjoy!

terrible management

I have just attended a wedding in the hotel, I couldn't believe how beautiful the hotel was on arrival, the bedroom was absolutely fabulous and so was the function room. The actual service and food was a disgrace - I can't believe the manager or restaurant manager can turn up to their work and show their faces. The meal was to be served around 5.30pm, everyone was seated at this time however, people were still being served their main course at 10pm, while other people were being served their dessert at the same time. In addition, their were even guests who received their dessert but hadn't actually got dinner. Some meals were nice, other's were not. Veg was served when dinners were almost finished. The bride and groom had ordered fillet steaks as an option however, beef was served -very rare. In the middle of sevice the chef left. The wine that they were serving was watered down and when a guest confronted the restaurant manager and told him about it, he did bring new wine but to the guest's amazement the manager was not shocked. The comedian had to be cancelled at short notice because the band was so late at getting started due to the late meals.
During the nite the fire alarm was set off by a staff member by accident (whilst hoovering). The staff did not know how to reset the system. However after a lot of noise a guest resolved the problem by finding the fault and resting the fire alarm panel. THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO TRAIN THEIR STAFF IN MATTERS CONCERNING FIRE SAFETY . To end our stay the way it began we had to queue out the door in the morning for breakfast even though the dinning area was not completely full. Again Staffing Problems.
The evening was great once the band eventually got started, but at the end of the day. the bride and groom were very disappointed.
The Setting Here is Ideal For a Wedding BUT the Rest Of Your Day Could Be Ruined BY BAD MANAGEMENT. This does not deserve 5 stars,

We are currently staying at this hotel. When we found the entrance (very difficult) in the woods we traveled up a long, long gravel driveway to the entrance. No one greeted us so we were left to slep our luggage up the many stairs ourselves and park our own car. Once inside a friendly man offered to help with the luggage which he did. Unfortunately the hotel is like a furnace and has no air conditioning or even fans to bring to the room. We had much difficulty falling asleep as in previous hotels we had booked here. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was quite tasty but the service was extremely slow and got slower as the meal progressed. The atmosphere of the hotel is that it is a huge new place still under construction. There is a lovely spa and swimming poor area and also a machine room (no eliptical though). I wish I had known about the air conditioning before booking.
Definately not 5*.

Visited the hotel on a Sunday in April and to say it was a pleasurable experience would be totally wrong. Trying to find the hotel was difficult after arriving via one entrance which later transpired to be the back entrance . After finding our way around to the front entrance we were met buy a very helpful consiege who escorted one of our party to the door. Alas there was no offer to park the car. The interior is a miss match of designs. should it be ultra modern or more opulent to follow in the castle theme.?Sadly none of these apply. It is stuck in limbo with a very unwelcoming feel as the floor tiles seem to draw all the light leaving a cold feel upon entering. We had a meal in the bar area and such a disaster. The food was bland especially the irish stew which had carrots in it but a miniscule amount of potato and the onions no where to be seen. It tasted of nothing really. The waitress came to remove our plates when one of our party was still eating. The bedroom was nothing special, bath was chipped and dining room IS the colour BEIGE. Outside it is all little stones, not a place for good shoes. We left in disgust and found a fantastic hotel called Harvey,s Point a little further on near the lake. Sheer luxury and the food was magnificent.
Fabulous

All in all a fantastic stay. I'd go as far to say that it's one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The rooms are a really good size and finished too a high spec. The spa was wonderful and we had it too ourselves whenever we used it.
A few minor niggles: The UHT milk in the room to have with your hot drinks was some of the worst I've ever tasted! A carton of fresh milk could be put in the minibar fridge like in other hotels I've stayed in.
No bubble bath in the bathroom!!
The restaurant: We ate there on the Saturday night and can only say it was a disappointment. The service went from being incredibly efficient to painfully slow! Also the food was nothing special and not what you expect in a five star.
In all fairness the above are probably teething problems and didin't marr what was a superb stay in a stunning hotel. All the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and are all ready looking to go again soon.

Fantastic hotel in lovely Donegal
from Annmurphy
Hi,
Just had to share our experience of a fantastic trip to The Solis Eske Castle in Donegal.
We were only able to stay for the one night, but what a fantastic time we had. It was a suprise night away for my husband's birthday, and I couldnt have taken him to a nicer place.
Every thing about Solis Eske is what you would expect from a five star hotel, it was originally a castle, and it fashioned in this style, the standard to which it is finished off is so impressive, and the gardens lovely and so well laid out. Our bed room and bathroom were just superb, the food was beautiful. The spa which is set in the hotel gardens, is heaven.
The staff of this lovely place, couldnt do enough for us, they were so friendly and helpful, and a special word of mention for the very talented singer piano player who entertained us so imressivley.
All being well we hope to return to this lovely place, as it really is a gem in lovely Donegal

From the moment we drove up to the front of the castle we were greeted and treated like royalty. I would find it hard to find fault with this hotel .
The decor is a wonderful mix of traditional with a modern twist , which works wonderfully well.
Our bedroom was very large with lovely little touches - I loved the coffee. The bathroom was really well laid out very roomy.
We used the pool and spa which has a great hydrothermal suite with a relaxation room next to it. A great way to put in a Saturday afternoon!
We had one evening meal in the hotel which was of a very high standard with service to match.
I have had better hotel breakfasts paticularly choice of fruit and cereal also no porridge on buffet, however you can order this from the kitchen. I feel a bit picky saying this as the breakfast again is of a high standard.
We didn't really want to leave the hotel as it was so comfortable and welcoming.
This is definately a hotel to visit if you want to forget the outside world and get away from things for a while! One can truly relax here - believe me!
The icing on the cake was the hotel staff. We experienced a very high level of service . The service seemed genuinely heartfelt. This level of sevice is so rare to find nowadays . I hope this hotel continues as it has stated out.
We stayed 2 night and hopefully our next stay shall be for longer.
Book It!!

My Romantic Suprise Marriage Propsal
from NuttyLou
I recently stayed in this fabulous castle on Sat 12th April, where my boyfried suprised me with a marriage proposal. I can honestly say that I couldn't have asked for a better location. The hotel was unbelievably perfect, the atmosphere was very romantic, and the room was amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. However i have 2 small downsides. 1.The menu in the main restaurant is very limited with choice. But for those of you who like to get your teeth into the odd "burger & Fries" I recommend the bar menu. Checkout their amazing homemade burgers! Very Tasty! And Number 2, I just wish I had of stayed for 2 nights instead of just the one!!! You need at least 2 to appreciate the quality and luxury of this hotel.
So for anyone who wants to be spontaneous and incredibly romantic, this castle is the place to go!

We have just come back from this beautiful restored castle and it was a treasure! We loved everything about the place and Im a very fussy, well travelled individual. Yes the castle is just new, only opened a few months and there are some tiny tiny issues with breakfast and the Cedars restaurant while beautiful decor, and nice food was not the highlight of yhe stay. The food was nice but we ate in the downstairs bar with the pool table etc and the food selection here was great and when staying again I shall give the restaurant a miss and eat in the bar, best colcannon Ive ever tasted. We had a game of pool, a few drinks and then retired to the lounge area upstairs beside the fire gorgeous! The best and nicest thing about this hotel is the staff and the service they were just absolutely lovely and genuine, not the thank you come again stale ould attitude of some hotels but genuinely nice, welcoming and helpful and could not be faulted. I really loved the stay so much we are anticipating another return shortly and I really hope the hotel and the management keep up the great work.
The rooms huge with all the little extras one hopes for, bathrobes, slippers nice toiletries and candle in bathroom. Service at night with ice for drinks etc. The spa is gorgeous and we had the whole pool and hydrotherapy area to ourselves, well thought out changing rooms and pool area.
The gardens will be stunning when a little more mature and the hotel receptionist mentioned they were going to be looking into road signage because we found it quite difficult to find long winding backroad up to a hidden gate which we actually passed before turning around and finding on the way back so just watch for the big rock on the right hand side with hotel name.
5star absolutely and I hope the service just dosent slip this is the nicest thing about the hotel keep up the brilliant work, we will be back.

An unexpected delighht in Donegal

Three Irsih exiles (My wife, our seven year old son and myself)stayed here for one night as a treat between visting friends in Sligo and staying with family in Co. Louth. This hotel is still in pre-marketing phase, having only opened in December 07. It is a converted / restored castle, and has been fitted out tastefully but with an emphaison local photography and art. The location and the stunning surroundings make the hotel an experience even on the approach, and the accomodation and the food is top class, but what made our stay special was the friendlinessof the staff. Everyone of them went out of their way to be helpful, and made us feel really relaxed and comfortable. The girl at the bar overheard us trying to work out our route to our next stop, came over to advise us on the best route for scenery, and then chased after us as we were leaving to get our car to give us a print out of driving directions! I cannot recommend Lough Eske highly enough - go now as in a couple of years this will be one of the top five hotels in Ireland.

Harvey's Point Go the nearby Harvey's Point hotel for a meal. The hotel is a little dated lloking but the meal was amazing, and the service couldn't be faulted. Also the views are sublime. Go on a Friday and enjoy the local entertainment put on in the bar!
