Remarkable hotel in a beautiful setting

from call_me_ty
My husband and I stayed at Harvey's Point for one night during our honeymoon in Ireland. What a wondertul hotel! Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a deluxe room with a view of the lough. The room was enormous, the largest of any hotel we experienced in Ireland, and exceptionally well appointed. The bathroom was as large as any bedroom with a huge jacuzzi tub and an amazing rainfall shower. The setting where the hotel is located is beautiful and serene, and would be ideal for a wedding. We did not dine at the hotel that evening and were pleasantly surprised in the morning when we went to the dining room for breakfast. It was beautiful, right on the lake and the buffet was the best we encounted anywhere in Ireland. The entire staff, from the bellman to the bartender, was very friendly and attentive to our every need. We would return to Harvey's Point in a heartbeat if we're ever in the area again. I highly recommend it!!

outstanding hotel!

from honest reviewer
Harvey's Point is truly beautiful! Although the rooms are pricey, they certainly live up to the cost. Spacious, decadent, thoughtful, with every consideration brought to attention. The bathrooms are to die for with massive jacuzzi's and luxurious products. Staff were just as nice as the rooms. This is a remarkable property!

A break to remember.

from Rolos
We have just returned from a 2 night break at Harvey's Point and it was truly fabulous. The staff were very friendly (with the exception of 1) and made us feel perfectly relaxed. The one member of staff I refer to was one of the reception staff and although never rude she never smiled. This probably wouldn't be noticed by most but I am very particular about customer service.

We stayed in a Premium Suite and it was luxurious on a grand scale. I have stayed in some amazing hotels but have never been in a room this size before.

The only, not so positive, comment I would make would be in respect of the restaurant menu. I would not say we were plain eaters but we aren't big sea food fans. I would have loved to try the restaurant in the hotel but there wasn't enough variety to justify it for us.

I was last at Harvey's point in 2001 for a drink and was underwhelmed but the refurbishment was worth every penny, I would definately go back.

No children allowed at this hotel.

from KMULL
Tried to book a break at this hotel on their website. After trying several different dates eventually noticed that by leaving our child out while searching there was actually loads of availability for the dates I tried. After contacting the hotel they eventually replied to my second E-mail to confirm that it was hotel policy no children are allowed on premises after 6 o clock except for private function. I was very disappointed to learn this as I stayed at this hotel in the past , the fact that we now have a child seemingly prevents us from using the hotel again!
Management Response from MGDonegal
Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor in relation to the children’s policy at Harvey’s Point. Currently in our 19th year of business, Harvey’s Point has developed a niche market for couples to escape on a special occasion or for a short break. As we do not specialize in nor pretend to be a hotel suitable for children, we presented our website to attract couples.

However, we have since amended our policy so that all guests of any age are welcome with organized dining times in the restaurant
and baby sitting facilities available. It would be our pleasure to welcome you and your family back to Harvey’s Point.

Fantastic on all accounts

from scof76
We toured co. Donegal whilst on holiday in co. Westmeath (Mullingar) and when we arrived in Donegal town to crash somewhere, we were disappointed by what we found.
We decided to follow a sign for Harvey's point in town, I guess inspired by the name. What an inspiration! After a wild goose chase on tiny country lanes at night, we arrived in the car park of this splendid establishment.
Originally planning on staying on a cheap B&B, we turned round after asking at reception for their rates... but half discouraged by the drive back and half tempted by the 'still-outrageously-expensive-but-a-good-deal-nonetheless-on-dinner-and-B&B', we checked in.
What a treat that was! After quite a long walk to the lifts, the room was absolutely huge, with an entrance lobby, a bathroom the size of our upstairs at home with shower, jacuzzi bath et al. The bedroom itself was massive with views accross the lough below, a huge flat screen TV and bed as wide as long. Decadent luxury but oh so sweet!
We went down for dinner and took ages to decide on what to have, all the dishes on the menu sounding all very tempting. We ate like king and queen, drank like fools and went up to bed.
Annoyingly, being in the room we were, we slept terribly because of all the food and drink consumed.. what a shame :)
Anyway, that didn't stop us from enjoying the large and very well furnished breakfast buffet in the morning.
To conclude, top marks to Harvey's Point, I hope we'll be back in the not-to-near future!!

Fantastic Proposal

from KarenandPhil
My boyfriend and I stayed in Harvey's point from the 6th to the 9th of July 2006. I had often mentioned its location to him and I had heard it was lovely but never actually been inside it. From my description he had a look online last year but held off booking as the new wing was being completed. It did not disapoint, we had a deluxe suite with all the trimmings and were very pleased with the size and decor. We both loved the jacuzzi bath, mini bar and plasma tv especially. He proposed on the Friday night, I accepted of course and we drank Champagne he had brought - not because the bar was expensive but he got a better vintage champagne himself than the hotel could supply - bit of a black mark there. My only complaint is that there was nowhere outside for him to comfortably have a smoke. Totally understand that it is banned inside but only wedding guests had outside seating areas off their function rooms. Its a shame I couldnt keep him company while he had his little puff but there literally was nowhere to sit - a great pity with those wonderful views to be admired. The staff were wonderful, extremely pleasant, remembering our names and going the extra mile. The gourmet dinner was outstanding and both of us keep talking about the chef's braised ribs - an absolute must if you visit.

It was a truly special occasion and we would love to go back.

Luxurious, but of concern to us

from Cuchallain
We stayed at Harvey's Point several years ago and re-visited in July 2006 . On our first visit, it was a small but luxurious place, several kilometers from Galway Town via a narrow road that added to its remoteness and charm.

Since our initial visit, Harvey's Point has expanded to a 3-story (2-story in IRL) hotel with very generous accomodations. We went there expecting to get a room with a king-sized bed and small bath, but were greeeted with a room more than triple the size of what we had before.

The room was grand, as was the restaurant. Our concern is fire safety.

The hotel is very isolated, yet the owners neglected to install fire sprinklers to protect their guests. Fire sprinklers are a feature of modern hotels throughot the world, and we were surprised that Harvey's Point built a world-class hotel with third-world fire protection. We will stay there again, but only if we get a room in the old wing where we are on the ground floor with direct access to the outside.

We have just returned from Easter weekend at Harveys Point. We have no complaints about the hotel at all. The rooms are absolutel exquisit, roomy, luxurious, the food is excellect, and all the staff most helpful. The thing we noticed most was the peace and tranvqullity of the place, and the bedrooms were so quiet. We have stayed at Turnberry Hotel in Scotland, and we honestly felt that Harveys Point in relation to the bedroom facilities much better. It was a most enjoyable stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Unabashed luxury

from Hyperion24
We flew to Donegal Airport and picked up a hire car to drive to Harvey's Point. On arrival we parked the car and did not use it again until the return to the Airport! This Hotel, from the moment the Doorman welcomed us until he said goodbye when we were leaving, was perfection. The bedrooms in the new wing were bigger than many houses - we reckon they were 60ft by 20ft, which means 1,200sq ft. The bathroom with a shower and a double bath (yes it got used!)the bar area with its own fridge and sink, and the huge 40inch Plasma TV in the bedroom added up to a standard that many 5 star hotels can only aspire to.

But without good staff and service the surroundings would count for nothing. We were not disappointed. Every single member of staff without exception was charming, courteous, and went the extra mile to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of the guest. The restaurant was excellent and food and service first class.
I am already planning our next trip to this haven of wellbeing!

Perfect to just Chill out

from tarap
Stayed at Harvey's Point at New Years and then 2 weeks later. The rooms are amazing. Stayed in an executive room first and then the Deluxe. The only real difference is the deluxe has a jacuzzi tub which I must admit was quite romantic for me and my husband. The rooms are extraordinary..Huge..comfortable, everything anyone could think of. I have traveled all over the world and stayed in many five star hotels and must admit I have never been so impressed with a room before. They are larger than any apartment I lived in in New York City!

As for the food:

New Year's I was very disappointed. It was just average, but I guess you need to expect that from large scale catering.

When we went back for a long weekend and ate in the regular restaurant with the set dinner it was GORGEOUS! Everthing was beautifully presented and was of the highest quality. The breakfast was also one of the best hotel breakfasts I ever had ( the wheaten bread is espcially good). We also had a snack lunch in the bar and it is definately good value for money. If you order the smoked salmon plate, split it with someone..it was large!

All in all, if you need a place to go to just chill out and become human again..go to Harvey's
