Historical Traveller Reviews of Dingle Skellig Hotel
Dingle skellig hotel - Over rated
We stayed at the Dingle Skelligs for St.Patricks bank holiday weekend 07. Room was ok, breakfast was awful, but I have to say the lunch in the bar was fine. There are many good restuarants around dingle so no need really to eat in the hotel. This is a family orientated hotel, so if you are looking for a quiet get away with your other half, stay away!! We will not be going back to dingle skelligs
We stayed in the dingle Skellig From just after Christmas and over the new year for 6 nights. We stayed in room 300. The room really needs refurbishment and when we saw some of the rooms on the first floor that had been refurbished we were dissapointed. There was loads of space but the room is very tired. We had paid a supplement for the suite. We found the staff very plesant and accommodating to our needs. We have 2 children ages 1 and 10. THere is a creche and kids club so we were able to relax too.
Food was excellent but I had one problem. Our 10 year old daughter decided she wanted the salmon off the adults menu one night. The Childrens menu was the same every night and she got a little tired of Chicken nuggets and chips. We were charged a 50 Euro supplement ! We could have had the whole salmon for that. All that said, I would go back again. THe breakfast buffet was one of the best id seen. The Manager was always around and they all seemed to work very hard,
This was a lovely hotel which I would definitely recommend to both couples and families and also singles looking for a relaxing getaway. Situated just a few minutes walk from the village, bars and shops.
Firstly, the location of the hotel is superb as it sits right on Dingle Bay with beautiful views. Each morning we would eat breakfast overlooking the bay , a perfect start to the day. The choice and quality of food at breakfast has to be some of the best I have experienced in over 17 years of travelling. Dinner was also first class, again in both quality and service. The Reception and Spa staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.
The room was great, very clean and comfortable, definitely worth every penny !
We loved Dingle!
We stayed at the Dingle Skellig for 2 reasons. First my husband's best friend was having his wedding reception there. Second the room was booked as a gift for my husband's birthday. This was a fantastic hotel. Very nice, very comfortable. The service was great too. The Dingle Peninsula was beautiful and probably our favorite stop in Ireland. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. I have two complaints. First, maid service came even though we put up our Do Not Disturb sign. We had to leave early in the morning for the wedding. Since my husband was in the wedding party he didn't want to deal with putting away his valuables while rushing out the door. When we stopped by the room after the cermony we were surprised to find people inside and the door adjar. This happened again the 2nd night, but we put up the sign just to see if they would clean it regardless. My other criticism was that we were placed in a room across the hall from the day care center. So we had to listen to crying infants whenever the day care was open which can be a little disturbing to your relaxation.

we have just read a review of the skelligs Hotel in dingle titled 'massively overpriced and dissapointing' or something along those lines and felt that we had to write a review completley disagreeing with this sentiment. we stayed in the skelligs for the first time in late Dec 2005. we were attending a wedding and decided to stay the day before and the the day after the wedding to have a break as well. From the initial phonecall making enquiries regarding reservations to the day we left the hotel we could not sing highly enough the praises of all the staff involved. The girl who dealt with us on the phone was so helpful and kind and it was a pleasure dealing with her. We ( a couple with a four year old child) were a tiny bit nervous of staying in this hotel feeling that it might be too posh for us !!! and that children would not be accepted. Things could not have been further from that as we realised over the three days we spent there that it was very much a family orinetated hotel. While this may be disturbing to some people it was very important to us. The other impressive fact for us was that everyone was treated the same by all the staff no matter what you wore or what car you drove! The clincher for us was meeting couples with children who were on their third and fourth break in the skelligs hotel and they sang its praises. Our room was an executive room because all the double rooms were booked and this included a self contained kitchen. Breakfast was great, it was lovely to be able to relax and eat in the restuarant when your child eventually went to the creche which was staffed by fantastic people who made you feel at ease and more importantly made our child feel at ease. we have loads more positive things to say about this hotel and the only reason we saw the reviews is because we logged on to see if there were any specials so that we could go again fairly soon. we cant wait to go again and would strongly recommend this hotel especially to couples with children.
Dingle Skellig - mediocre and very overpriced
We were very disappointed with our stay. The hotel is rated a 4 star but the decor and food are definitely 3 star or less. It may have been a brilliant hotel in the 1980's but now it looks dull and dated. Bar is awful and entertainment poor - maybe it was weekend we were there but place seriously lacks atmosphere. Didn't get to have a treatment as all were apparently booked out well in advance. For a family of four (2 children under 7) for 2 nights b & b and one dinner we paid €595 - way over priced. We have gone for 3 night stays in Paris and London (in better accommodation) for less and that included flights. Will not be returning - Dingle is an excellent place but this mediocre soulless hotel is not the place to stay.

I have stayed in the Dingle Skellig hotel many times with my young children, each time the food and service is great and staff are so friendly, especially in the crèche. The hotel has done some refurbishment and we got to stay in one of the beautiful new rooms, making a great stay even better
s Home town!

I have stayed at the Dingle Skellig Hotel many times over the past number of years and most recently just after Christmas, and I really couldn't praise it enough, we stayed in one of their beautifully refurbished rooms, over looking Dingle Bay. The food in the Coastguard restaurant was superb as usual and the service was exceptional, especially as the wait staff remembered me from previous visits.
I spent a short time in the outdoor hot tub of the Peninsula Spa, and the views of the Bay were breath taking to say the least
Massive disappointment and overpriced

When it opened the Skellig was extremely stylish and modern. I stayed there and it was a really different experience and very enjoyable. I have been recommending it eversince, but was massively disappointed when I stayed there again recently. Now it has been expanded, decorated in 1990s corporate business style and has the compulsory "leisure suite". It has completely lost its individuality, could be a second rate hotel anywhere in the world and feels tired. The rooms lack air conditioning and are stuffy, sea view rooms also overlook the car park and an architectural mess of roofs, ducting, wiring, etc. that is a real eyesore.
Functions frequently mean that there is no car parking available, the breakfast provided and service is mediocre. Complaints are met with resigned apologies and excuses.
This is now very expensive for what it offers and is poor hotel in a fabulous location. My sincere apologies to anyone who stayed there on my earlier recommendation.
Overpriced and mediocore
My friend and I just had a 2 night package in the Dingle Skellig Hotel. It was 2 nights b+b with 1 evening meal for 135.oo euro. I feel this was overpriced seeing as some hotels of a higher standard offer the same package for 95.00 and occasionally an extra night free!! I was under the impression that it was a 4 star hotel but in my opinion was far from it. The rooms are o.k. but views vary quite a lot. Breakfast consisted of a buffet which was either undercooked and greasy or gone cold. The floor of the dining room at breakfast still had the remains of someones vegetables from the evening before. Makes one wonder the state of the kitchen we do not see!! The hot tub was out of order which by the way was our reason for choosing this Hotel and after having some treatments in the overpriced spa were told to go to the relaxation room to find it was far from relaxing as the workmen were in and out repairing the hot tub. I would have thought that they could arrange for this repair work to be done outside of spa treatment hours. I probably would return if the hot tub is working and also the fact that it has leisure facilities but other than that Ii would be slow to part so foolishly with my hard earned euro.
