Historical Traveller Reviews of The Kingsley Hotel
WOW! what a discovery
What a discovery this hotel was! I was only there for one night, unfortunately but I will be back! It was my first visit so I didnt see it before the recent refurbishment which is amazing. I love the way the old and new design styles have been blended in the lobby area, it lets you know you're in for a surprise in this hotel!
Head to the bedrooms and when you step out of the lift on the 2nd floor what a Wow! there's a plush lavish sensation! The colours are so mellow, and the textures, I found myself compelled to feel everything!!!!
The room itself was something else. Every whim catered for from the Cappucino machine to the DVD player - wow! I LOVED the walnut, the marble the carpet, the wallpaper, the bed and the linens and most of all the lighting - it was so relaxing! especially in the bathroom - I just HAD to have a bath and soak it up! I really loved the fittings. I was just SO sorry I didnt have my camera with me cos I've now got so many ideas for the interiors of my new house! I really could have spent a week locked into the room so I will definitely be back and will bring my camera!
I ate in the restaurant, had the early bird menu - super value €23 for two courses and it was extremely good. I'm an eat little and often person so I rarely clear my plate in a restaurant but I ate every morsel of my meal and everything that came with it!!!
I think I could waffle on and on about this and bore you to tears, so I'll stop now! But they have a very satisified guest here, and I will be spreading the word!
Wait until work is completed
Stayed here three weeks ago with my husband, two children and mother. Had read reviews about building work so rang hotel beforehand to check and was told that part of the driveway was being redeveloped but it wouldn't be intrusive. Disappointed to find out that the entire exterior of hotel is a building site. Building work also ging on somwhere within hotel facility and drilling went on until 7pm (we were told it would finish at 4pm) also following morning - a saturday it restarted at 8am. We had room at back of hotel but my mother had a front room and didn't appreciate the early morning disruption. Bedrroms are spacious and bright but furniture is in a bad state of repair and television is in a cupboard and can only be viewed while sitting directly opposite it this meand that neither we or children could watch it while in bed. The hotel is very dark and parts of the lobby seemed to be partitioned off. There are no grounds apart from building site in front - there is no facility to sit outside unless you count the concrete blocks my mother sat on to have an occassional cigarette. The bar is dreadfully dull in both atmosphere and lighting. Both Friday and Staruday nights there were never more than 6 people in the bar. Dinner was adequate and included in our deal if it hadn't been the prices are exorbitant. My husbands fish was not fresh i.e. tasteless and rubbery when he complained to restuarant manager his response was "but it;s not gone off is it?". And that was that. Also breakfast was very slow and even though there were many staff on duty and very few customers they all huddled together in a corner and only came to a table when summonded. Also leisure centre is a joke. You have to walk through the building site to get to it. My mother wanted to stay in waiting area while we swam but was told that there was no point as you can't see pool from it. The jacuzzi never worked and there is an exit door by pool to ,soon to be completed. hot tub area and builders kept coming in and out which was a bit disconcerting. The general consensus is that this hotel should have shut its' doors while all these improvements are going on. If you have a business trip or some other important reason to be in Cork then this hotel would suffice but as a holiday break with a family it's not a runner. On our check out we told of our disappointment to the manager on duty and were offered an upgrade when we return to the hotel - a feeble gesture and one we won't be taking up I'm afraid.
Great Hotel, lovely staff
We booked our two night stay at the Kingsley through their website. We took advantage of the special they were having that offered two nights, dinner and afternoon tea for 175 Euros. The hotel is lovely, beautiful and spacious room, and excellent staff. The breakfast was also included and very good, the dinner was excellent as well. We enjoyed afternoon tea in the sitting room off the lobby and it was delicious, the most wonderful tea- we drank the whole pot! The location is a bit of a walk from city center, but there is a bus stop right down the street. Unfortunatley no one told us this and we figured it out our last day.. The staff would just tell us to take a taxi or walk. Why they don't reccomend the public bus I'm not sure, but it was fine, and unlike Dublin these buses do give change. So just hop on and pay. We enjoyed our stay in Cork and at the hotel and would stay again now that we know how to get around the city.

" The Kingsley Hotel offers International graciousness combined with Irish hospitality". A hotel that makes good on its promise is how I best can describe our stay at the Kingsley hotel this past May. I have organized trips to Ireland for the past six years for members of our Golf club and decided to include the Kingsley hotel on the itinerary as a result of a casual meeting I had with Seamus Heaney, marketing director of the hotel.
Our group of 20 tired and weary travelers, after a 4 hour bus ride, arrived at the Kingsley hotel on May 18th. We had scheduled dinner at the hotel for 8:30 PM ; however, due to inclement weather we did not arrive until 10:30 PM. We were met by Seamus Heaney and members of the hotel staff who expedited registration in record time and informed us that the dining room would remain open to serve dinner. The restaurant manager and his staff were ever so accommodating at such a late hour. I can honestly say that I have discovered the #1 hotel in Cork, if not in the whole of Ireland. You have every reason to be proud of your hotel staff and facilities From check-in to check-out, the staff exemplified the meaning of the phrase "Cead Mile Failte"(100,000 Welcomes)
I would like to thank Anne, who took care of the reservations; the restaurant staff, Sheila and Regina at reception who were always smiling and Seamus Heaney who made good on his promise that I would not be disappointed with the Kingsley hotel.
Can't wait to return next year!
Just returned from a 2 night stay at the kingsley. We considered changing when we heard the leisure facilities were not open but i am so glad we didn`t.
The Hotel rooms etc are very pleasant but the real strengths lie with great food and fantastic customer service.
We stayed with their weekend deal which included 2 nights b&b an afternoon tea which was served in the library and consisted of sandwiches cake sweets and cream scones-surprisingly filling and a real treat. The breakfast and evening meals were faultless and no comlaints at all from our party of 8.
The staff are wonderful ,friendly and helpful without being intrusive and determined to ensure you enjoy your stay. The work although visible was never a disturbance and we can not wait to return and stay again.
This was an amazing hotel. We got a great deal which included breakfast, one dinner and one afternoon tea. The food at the restaurant, Otter's, was comparable to any fine restaurant. The rooms are tastefully decorated and clean and comfortable. The hotel staff is friendly and will go out of their way to accomodate guests. The pool and hot tub were beautiful and a great way to unwind at the end of the day. It is very close to Blarney Castle. I can not recommend this hotel enough. We definitely plan to return!
Kingsley is an Excellent Choice
This hotel is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at in Europe or in the states. The service was top notch, especially in the dining room which had excellent breakfasts and surprising for a hotel, an excellent dinner menu, presentation, and quality. We also had their light menu for another dinner and this was also way above average for this type of hotel dining. Our bed was very comfortable and the down comforters and great pillows delivered the best sleep we had on our trip. The Health Club was outstanding for a hotel. Great equipment and size. It also has local members which helps maintain this high quality operation. An excellent stay and if we are ever in Cork again this will be the hotel we will stay at. As for any comments on the construction work going on, it didn't bother us in the least. Just don't don't go out any of the back doors to look at the river or use the river walk. There isn't a way to get back in without going around the construction site to the front.
Excellent hotel with very high standards

Admittedly, the extensive building work was a bit offputting when we arrived, but, once inside the hotel, it was a different story. The car was parked for us, we were given a tremendously warm welcome, the bedroom, (overlooking the river), and bathrooom were beautiful and everything was immaculately clean and fresh. Afternoon tea was a real treat, breakfast and dinner were perfectly cooked and served leaving no cause for complaint. Every one of the staff was polite, friendly and helpful, but the girls on reception were exceptionally good. Nothing was too much trouble and the overall attention to detail was superb, (ice buckets in room filled each evening, beds turned down, etc, etc).
We have stayed in much more expensive and well known hotels, but the Kingsley has a standard that is very hard to beat and we will certainly visit again.
Fantastic Hotel for Weekend Break

Have just returned from a weekend in Cork where I booked the weekend package. At 175 Euro per night for 2 people it offers excellent value and includes B&B, 1 dinner and 1 afternoon tea. These extras were really good value as the afternoon tea was heavenly and the perfect way to end a busy day sight seeing and the dinner in Otters restaurant was comparable to the best restaurants in London. The staff were a great friendly team who made you welcome from the moment you arrived and really couldn't do enough for you. The leisure facilites are also good with a lovely pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Perfect location for a weekend away with the girls.
Due to the building works I would avoid the hotel in the week if you don't won't to be woken by early builders.

Staff could not be more friendly and helpful and the food and facilitiew were excellent.
The building work had no impact on our break at all as we were given a riverview room

beware the extras
pre booked car rental prior to travel collected at airport advised to take on extra cover to reduce excess car also had full tank of petrol (which we didn't use)better to rent car that has to be returned with a full tank then you only pay for what you use the rental for three days worked out very expensive so check everything carefully
