great hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberAvoid this hotel
from IanSwindonThe real scam started when we went to breakfast. I had booked one night B&B on the Internet. The waiter told us that our room rate didn't include breakfast and he said we would have to pay cash. I pointed out his mistake, and he asked whether I had booked on the Internet? I said yes, and he told us that you can not book a room with breakfast on the Internet! I had my email confirmation with me that clearly stated breakfast was included. Eventually, and quietly we were allowed to have our breakfast. Every other guest was given the same story and most just paid cash and didn't complain. Nice little earner for the hotel, getting guests to pay twice!
On check out I paid with my credit card. The reception staff sneakily charged me in Sterling without giving me the choice. This is a classic scam which nets the hotel another nice earner by imposing a charge on your card and using an inflated rate. The Nationwide estimated that last July UK consumers paid an extra £5 million pounds in retailers using the same scam. I complained and had the transaction cancelled and then paid in Euros.
This hotel is either grossly incompetent or they are deliberately trying to con tourists. To be safe I would simply avoid the place and book somewhere else.
Totally unsafe area of Cork to stay in
from caitaoifeLet me start by saying that Cork is one of my favourite cities to go to, fantastic nightlife and lovely people. My one reccomendation is not to stay in this hotel unless you are a crowd of guys on a night out that arent too bothered about where they stay.
Except for the initial guy that checked us in and one young male bartender all staff were extremely unhelpful and rude. Do not eat in the bar as the food was not fully cooked both nights that we ate there, eg home made burgers were raw inside, chips were frozen in the middle, chicken wings...I still shudder when I think of how disgusting they were.
I have paid the 10 euro for breakfast in other Quality hotels and always had the height of praise, but here it was a disgrace to their name...very little cooked food choice, warm milk for cereal, bread for toasting was stale!! When we asked for more juice it was like we asked the waitress to give us her life!! 7 people sat to breakfast with me and they put two teapots on the table for us....with one teabag in each pot. I'm sorry if I sound like a complete moaner..I have never left a review like this before but even on our first night I said to the girls that people just have to know how bad this place is. I would recommend staying the other side of the river as it is a VERY rough area, graveyard out the back which u are facing is used as a open air drinking (and toilet) area by young juveniles. We had to witness all day and night drinking sessions and these people openly use the hotel grounds as their outdoor toilet. They also use the carpark as a quick way through their estates. When I came out to my car in the unbelivably small car-park on the day I was leaving the bonnet of it had been scratched with graveyard stones. Be warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More mediocre Quality than high Quality
from colmirlThe hotel is centrally located, and a short walk from the Quays, and the Cork Opera House, which is a bonus. The receptionist was friendly, and hotel looked clean and recently refurbished. My room was clean, well decorated and cosy - but it looked like it had been finished badly by the electrical/plumbing contractors. The door hinge dug into the slanted wall, damaging the paintwork, a downlighter in the ceiling was hanging out, and a electric socket was also hanging off the wall. Another oddity was the bedside lamp which switched itself off every time pressure was applied to a certain part of the headboard! I really think they need to have words with whoever installed the electrics. I also had requested a smoking room, and was assigned a non-smoking room by the receptionist, who assured me it was "ok" and sent up an ash-tray. In consideration to the next inhabitants, I pretty much didn't smoke in the room, and when I did it was out one of the windows! Not the ideal solution for me, or for future inhabitants.
As it was raining heavily that evening, I opted to dine in the bar (the hotel also has a restaurant), where the food was promptly delivered but of average quality. I can't speak for the quality of the restaurant food.
That night, I ordered the room delivery breakfast the next morning. You select items from a list, and for €2 more than the standard buffet in the dining room, it is delivered to the door. This was a big bonus, as the cooked breakfast was generous, and you could select as many items as you wished from the list of the €10 cost. I will certainly give the Quality credit for this. It was also delivered exactly on time!
The next big issue occurred when I went to shower. The temperature control was broken and simply came off in your hand, and the shower only pumped out scalding hot water which was too hot to shower in. I had no choice but to go without a shower, which I was none to happy about as I was now running out of time and had a meeting to attend.
Upon checking out, I mentioned to the receptionist the problems with the shower, and she waived the breakfast charge, which was appreciated. They were also happy to store my luggage, which was appreciated.
All in all though, for the price paid, it really seemed over-priced for what you were getting. There are undoubtedly better hotel chains out there, and better properties in Cork. I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to spend any more money at the Quality Hotel. I'm giving this hotel a neutral/average rating, simply because the staff really do seem to try to deliver good service, but otherwise the hotel seems over priced and under delivers.
Great Weekend
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel itself was warm, inviting and clean, the rooms were ample size and quiet and the food of good quality.
The pool was clean and inviting and a nice place to relax.
I would recommend the hotel to friends and family, and given I didn't have my children with me for this weekend have no problem in bringing them to the hotel on future visits.
With regards to the lift being small it is recommended to hold 8 people and as a mother myself who once many years ago had a pram would have no problem using it as long as my husband brought the cases up seperately.
Quality hotel Cork is fine
from A TripAdvisor MemberCan't comment on the bar, food or restaurant. Went to the leisure centre swimming pool twice, very good, complimentary for guests.
Easy to walk down to the quays, over the bridge, into the shopping areas.
I would recommend the hotel, and would return, especially at the price of 79 per night per room.
No problems!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWhat a Dump
from JoeMack53Firstly I was told when I made the booking they had a car park. when I arrived I was told in was full. When I asked what will I do with my car I was told just leave it on the street.
My Room was over looking lots of graves, and the area that the hotel is in is like what Cork used to look like in the 40's
The lift in the hotel is so small I had to take our belongs up at two different stages.
I then when to the bar and it had about 6 drunk guys at 4.30p.m the looked homeless, not a pleasant place to take kids.
When we had dinner that night I was told there was no steak left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I decided to check out after the first night as it is not a safe place to have childern, we moved to another hotel in the city centre that was cheaper and far better.
My advice to anyone going to this hotel is to cancel their booking and look elsewhere.
Great Staff

from omIrelandTop Local Tips for Cork
Travelling You can get almost anywhere by the Eireann bus company - don't hire a car unless you like driving mad. They don't seem to care how they drive in ireland.
Getting around by bus Bus Eireann do a really good day trip to The Ring of Kerry it is a long day departing at 10am and getting back at 9.30pm Well worth it and not that expensive. You have several stops including beautiful Killarney and Kinsale. The scenery is really stunning We went on the last tour of the season and were lucky enough to have clear blue sky all day and so hot! The open top bus tour of Cork City includes going to Blarney Castle where if you are brave enough you can kiss the Blarney Stone, The Blarney Woollen Mill is well worth a visit
great to see go and enjoy the holiday and relax
