Historical Traveller Reviews of Jurys Inn Cork Hotel

Good location - clean rooms - unfriendly service

from Nigelhu
The hotel is 2-3 mins walk from the bus station and only slightly further to the main town centre, so the location is good.

Breakfast is not included in the price (why not?!). It was expensive and not worth the money, so best seek alternatives!

Our room was clean and we had no problems with the housekeeping. We had no noisy neighbours as others have reviewed, although the traffic on the adjacent main road was a little much sometimes.

My biggest grumble was the reception staff on both check-in and check-out, who were very unfriendly and blunt. A little customer service goes a long way!

Oh and watch the on-line reservation system. For us, to book three nights together meant the highest rate for all three nights, compared to booking 2 nights for the lower "weekday" rate and the final night at the higher "weekend" rate.

Absolute KIP!

from Bmin
Arrived Saturday afternoon and we encountered the following problems:
1- Rooms were not ready at 2.30pm
2- When they were ready they stank of cigarette smoke
3- Very heavy element of security presence
4- Security personnel entering rooms without permission (Is this allowed?)
5- Went for breakfast on the Sunday morning and found mould on the bread / toast
6- Breakfast was €11.50!!!!
7- Housekeepers arrived into the room univited at 9am to tell us that we had 3 hours before we had to vacate the rooms.

Overall there was very poor service in this Hotel and I would strongly recommend all visitors to avoid this hotel at all costs.

Really liked this hotel

I stayed in this hotel recently and found the staff to be excellent. We had a family illness and the staff couldn't do more to help. The hotel itself was very clean and clearly has been refurbished. I found the restaurant staff to be very friendly and the food to be very good.

Unfortunately, I've stayed at this hotel on business several times. This was because it was booked and charged directly to my company - but never again!

The rooms, in particular the bathrooms, are not cleaned very well and some tend to smell quite badly. Expect p on the toilet seats and plugged up sinks.

The food in the restaurant is awful and I would suggest walking into the city centre which has a lot of excellent options instead. I think the menu is too ambitious and they should stick with more basic options. After 'eating' their tortellini I had to walk into the city centre to have a proper/edible meal.

I disagree with a previous review that said it was ok for business travellers. Mainly because you're not likely to get a good nights' sleep. The room rates mean that you are likely to be trying to sleep next to a group of people who will be up partying all night or who are running up and down the hallways and slamming doors. Once I was moved to another room but another time I was told that the hotel was fully booked (really doubt that was true) and I wasn't able to sleep until after 3am.

All in all, find somewhere else to stay and whatever you do, don't eat there.

Much better than expected !!

After reading some of the other reviews on Jurys Inn I was somewhat concerned. I was very happy with my stay though. The location is most convenient for the centre of Cork & transport links. The room was clean, & room facilities ample. The place must clearly have been refurbished since some of the other reviews! My only complaint is that the restaurant was pretty pricey for what it is!

re step!

Stayed at this hotel for one night. Arrived and checked in OK, got to room to find a double bed after having booked a twin room, and then told that there was no other room available, so had to have sofa bed made up, which was OK. Difficulty parking as no car parking spaces left and parked hire car in side street. Walked into town to find somewhere to eat and noticed a number of people, obviously drunk and homeless, lying in the streets or walkways around the hotel. This is clearly an area frequented by the down and outs of Cork City and although as two females on their own we were not threatened we did not feel comfortable although we took the banter in good sport. After spending the rest of our time touring Cork and Kerry which was lovely we returned to the City before our flight home and quite by mistake came across this area again in the daylight, only to witness homeless drunks, revelling and spewing in the streets at the side of the hotel. Any unsuspecting passerby could easily have been covered in the projectile vomiting that we witnessed driving by this area. From viewing previous comments I now know that the hotel is very close to a hostel for homeless alcoholics, so beware - unfortunately my lasting memory of a lovely time spent here is severely marred by this!

Buyer Beware!

from SFDavid
Even after confirming the night before that our room would be held for our late arrival, when we arrived at 11pm after an exhausting day of travel, the manager was 'sorry' to say the hotel had sold my room and then they shuttled us off to another which was a 30 minute walk into the city center.
I guess they would rather sell to walk-ins paying RACK rates than uphold their promided reservations made through LateRooms.
It was no consolation that they paid for the taxi to the other hotel and paid the higher rate of the other hotel. We just wanted our bed and they sold it to someone else and we were not amused.

Unfriendly staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I am late in writing this review as my stay was in November last year, however I must say that my main complaint is regarding the attitude of Reception staff. Unfriendly, not helpful, just basic and no smiles. We stayed there 4 nights - our heating never worked although we called Reception many many times. This was never fixed, we were cold during our stay and no one didn't seem to care.. At some point and after many calls on our last evening, my husband requested that someone comes up urgently. Not less than four people (!) came into our room together, checked that the heating was definitely not working - just in case we were dumb enough not to make it work! They kind of laughed a bit saying 'sorry, there is nothing we can do!'
This plus we had been allocated a room just in front of a dazzling street-lamp - therefore difficult to sleep. No one on check-out asked us if we has enjoyed our stay. We loved Cork but next time will try another hotel.

Spent 3 nights at this hotel and found it very comfortable, a short walk to the shops, with pleasant helpful staff. Food at the bar was a little expensive though and with the simon community next door i did see a few harmless drunks which may be a concern to ladies walking alone.

OK for Business

from brookway
I can understand the variety of reviews, but having stayed on business twice, it is clean(ish), tidy and most suitable for business travel. THe rooms are big and now that the restuarant is finished, it looks good.
