Historical Traveller Reviews of Jurys Cork Hotel

Great location, comfortable hotel.

from scragglechops
Very good location as within walking distance from the main shopping/eating areas in Cork City - no need to get a taxi back to the hotel. Right next to the River Lee, our room had a slightly obscured view of the Cathedral, the location feels somewhat industrial due to all the current building developments nearby.

Hotel staff were fine, nothing outstanding, rooms were a good size and always clean. The breakfast buffet had a good range, and the staff were attentive during serving.

Our only problem was that on the last day we were locked out of our room before checkout (while we were at breakfast) - but we got that sorted easily enough.

Stayed 1 night in June 2007. Overall impression was that this is a first rate establishment...quite new, everything ship shape.

Room huge; wonderful beds, many amenities. 10 min walk to town centre. Free internet. Free parking. Breakfast was above average.

My only annoyance was that they extracted a 2.5% service charge on the use of travellers cheques when I paid my bill. Of course, they didn't tell me this until after the damage was done.

Good experience

I stayed for one night in Jury's and was very impressed. The room was spotless, the staff were friendly and helpful and when I asked for a quiet room, I got a quiet room. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Nice hotel

from londoner03
Having just spent a week at Jury’s Doyle Hotel Cork with my wife, I can only say we were impressed by the service's offered and the environment within the hotel This recently rebuilt hotel, is easy walking distance from the town centre, and having great views of the River Lee, is one to be recommended. This was my first trip to Ireland and made a perfect base for touring the West Coast with all its magnificent views. The restaurant had a wide menu with a choice to suit most palates. All the portions served, were well presented and of good size, very little were left on the plates when we finished. The bedroom was well furnished with free Internet link available, and a bed to die for. Within the hotel complex is a Leisure Centre with swimming pool, sauna, steam room and all the facilities you would expect from a private Gym membership.

We stayed in an executive room on the fifth floor, which gave us a fantastic view of the city, and access to a separate lounge offering a free self service breakfast area complete 24 hour tea/coffee facilities, The room also came with Slippers and Fluffy bathrobes, which I loved so much I was able to purchase them for €35, which was a steal!!

Both my wife and myself were impressed by the whole set up at the hotel, the service was impeccable, We loved our first trip to Ireland and Jury's at Cork was part of the whole experience, which we are determined to repeat in the future.

very good experience despite the bad reviews

Just came back from a night in this hotel, we were a bit worried at first when we saw the bad reviews but I'm delighted to say that we needn't have. It has a very central location, check-in was quick and friendly. Rooms are quite large with very comfortable beds. Big bathroom with a deep bath and a separate shower. Flat screen TV and radio/cd player. We were on the 3rd floor and the view from the bay-style windows really add to the rooms. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it.......the parking is free, reception take your parking ticket on check-out and give you another ticket to get out.

New Hotel with no warmth!

from KEV1985
Stayed there last weekend and it was awful. Check In was very robotic, no offer to help with bags, no smiles or personality. Took bout 7/8 minutes to check in and find rooms. Stayed for 2 nights and was given a room that looked over the hotel service yard at bottle skips or rubish bins - how hard is it to cover over this area or at least keep it some where tidy - we could even see chefs and staff smoking out side! Dinner on Friday night was not great, again very robotic - were having a romantic meal and they kept on interupting us! Menu very modern but food tasted bland and soup was cold! Then went to the bar for a drink and went after 10minutes - 'we do not do table service' was the barmans comment - your a 4star hotel!

Saturday morning breakfast was ok, service again slow and unfriendly - so hard for the staff to smile. No-one seems to speak English as trying to ask for directions to Blarney was a challenge. We stayed clear on Saturday night and ate in town, there is a nice Veggie place across the road - Cafe Paradiso I think. Went to some nice pubs on Washington street that night. Arrived back at the hotel to be interigated by a security guard for my name and room number then asked the exact same questions in the bar! Ordered night roomservice then which was slow and way overpriced!!

Ordered room service the next morning-it was cold burnt and late! Check Out again was slow and not even as much as a thank you, did you enjoy your stay...just give me your money and next! Leisure centre 'is not run by the hotel' so bring €2 to buy your swim cap and a change of clothes as you must walk outside for it.

I would not recommend it as its not very friendly - rooms are great but staff are v rude and unfriendly, they seem as if they are not happy there which can add to the stress of a stay!

Nice modern hotel in central location

from Joools
Stayed at this hotel for a week over Easter 2007 with my husband and son. We booked a room containing a double and single and it was nice that the extra bed was a proper bed with it's own bedside table etc. The room was very clean and had all the amenities you might require including free broadband internet (though I had to collect a cable from reception). We were at the rear which didn't have much of a view, rooms at the front have a nice view of the river.

The bathroom was larger than most with a nice deep bath, very good water pressure and a fantastic walk-in shower.

One slight quibble with the room was that no milk was provided for several days with the tea/coffee tray. We found out from reception that the hotel had run out of supplies. They did supply a small jug of fresh milk when we complained but you would have thought such a large hotel could have taken a trip to the nearest cash & carry to stock up!

Breakfast was included with our room rate and was excellent. All the normal hot foods, a large selection of fresh fruit (including strawberries), various danish pastries, cereals, smoked salmon, yogurt, good range of fresh juice etc etc. Over the weekend the hot foods were serve-yourself buffet style which was great.

However, on the quieter midweek days the hot food had to be ordered via a waitress which caused us big problems on 3 of the 4 days we had to use this method. Firstly it took around 10 minutes each day before the waitress took our order for coffee, toast and hot food. We then had to wait 35 minutes one day, 20 minutes two other days and one wait of around 10 minutes before the hot food appeared. After the longest wait we complained to the restaurant manager who finally rustled up our food, which seemed to be verging on cold, and after being spoilt on the serve-yourself the previous couple of days I was shocked to find my scrambled egg, tomato and mushrooms (I'm veggie) consisted of a small portion of egg, one half of a tomato and one mushroom shredded up! I must have smiled right the next day as 3 whole mushrooms appeared!

We also ate in the bar one night where the food was fine and there seemed quite a lively atmosphere several nights.

There's a large underground car park at the hotel which is free for guests (you have to ask reception for exit tickets).

The leisure club is fine, the pool's not massive but adequate and there's also a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. You need to wear swimming hats so take them with you (otherwise you can buy them for 2 euros).

There's quite a lot of building work going on adjacent to the hotel though we didn't notice any noise until we went outside.

The hotel is about a 10 minute level walk from the main city centre which has all the usual large stores and lots of pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Overall, a nice modern hotel with good facilities and modern rooms, a bit let down by the poor service of it's staff.

Not for Hens or Stags

from RedMala
First impressions of the hotel were lovely as its a newly built building, but unfortunately on our check in of 13 people there was a huge disruption. The rooms had been pre-booked and the staff seemed incapable of a competent check in and explaining the hotel policies with regards to payment. One of our party was given her key and when she arrived at her room she found a family in it, which was very embarrassing for all concerned. The staff were not helpful at all and not very welcoming. The bar staff were completely rude and slow with the service, and as for the security staff.............. obnoxious doesnt even begin to describe them. The hotel management made it quite clear that Hens (and might I add we were quite a tame party in comparison to most) were not very welcome. When booking we made it clear that we were a hen party, I think that we should have been redirected to a more suitable hotel, rather than treating us in the manner they did. However the food was amazing, the breakfast staff were alot more welcoming and the hotel itself is beautiful. For a quiet weekend away this would be a good hotel but after my experience, it has tainted my views and I would not return.

More Good Than Bad

from FSL
My wife and I stayed there. Really lovely hotel and definitely 4* - but bit disappointed check in staff could not recommend even a restaurant or pub in the town. No need for taxis as everywhere is within walking distance. Room had brilliant view over the river.

Not a place for relaxation.

from Mazza99
Although the Hotel is new and very comfortable, the atmosphere is not relaxed and there seems to be too much stress put on signing for everything (twice at breakfast!) Staff were helpful in general although a little uptight in keeping with the general feel of the place. One very unpleasant receptionist was totally devoid of initiative and personality. Barstaff overly stiff, formal and again lacking personality. Dinner was only okay, two of our party got cold steaks which were sent back and then returned even colder the second time - how hard is it to keep food hot in a hotel kitchen?? Probably an okay hotel for business trips but certainly NOT to be recommended for a relaxing weekend, we came away more stressed than when we arrived!

Top Local Tips for Cork

Taxis Probably best to leave car at hotel and taxi into city, it is so inexpensive and leaves the stress of finding a car space behind. Busy buzzing city.
