I have staying 3 or 4 times and have found that it's gotten better and better. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Greenes Restaurant is the best in town for gourment food and value for money and the reception staff are fantastic, full of info and extremely helpful especially Hazel & Sylvia.

okay but......

dont stay in room 220. First impressions quite good but we asked to move after our first night as the clanking of the pipes running through the room was awful. i am a heavy sleeper and it woke me every 1 1/2 hours. when we told the receptionist why we wanted to move she said 'i thought the problem had been fixed'. my husband and i felt this was a line they fed to anyone who complained about the noise in the room. second room was much quieter but smaller. continental breakfast not that inspiring (local yoghurts were tasty tho')but i thought the cooked breakfast was above average as it was freshly cooked.
great location and friendly staff.

Our first time in Cork and what a lovely place to stay, walking up towards reception and seeing the waterfall was stunning. As we arrived early we could leave bags in a locked room so we could go and get our bearings of the city. All members of staff were very helfull nothing was too much trouble. Our room had plenty of space,we overlooked the waterfall.Breakfast menu would suit everyone and was included in price of room.Greenes resturant was outstanding we had the early bird menu at 25 euros each for a 3 course meal.Location was great walk into centre 5 minutes, will be going back again.

Greenes Restaurant

Wanted a short break in Ireland and wanted something that wasn't commercial and your average hotel and Hotel Isaacs was recommended. What a fabulous hotel, staff couldn't do enough for us, Hotel bedrooms were lovely and the food in Greenes Restaurant was the best I have had in many years. We dined in Isaacs Restaurant(different owners) which was good and recommended to us but GREENES food far superceded Isaacs. This is a Hotel people should be recommended if you're looking for the home away from home cosiness.
The reception staff couldn't do enough for us and whatever we asked it was never too much and we asked alot!!If you're going to Cork stay here.

spent two nights at isaacs recently. We had a room in the refurbished wing which we found very clean and attractive. Staff were friendly and helpful. The 'full irish' cooked breakfast is delicious. Location was excellent, minutes from main drag. Mccurtain street looks a shade shabby in places, but would'nt let that put you off. Overall we had a great weekend and would'nt hesitate in staying there again.

The good outweighs the bad

We stayed at Hotel Isaacs in Aug 2005 (just got back). They must have made some improvements since some of the reviews as there is a lift and entry to the hotel was via the lovely courtyard with it's impressive waterfall and through the main reception. This itself was furnshed nicely with sofas and chairs.

Our room overlooked the alley at the other side of the hotel from the courtyard/restaurant side. There was some noise from the alley at night and in the mornings (staff taking smoking breaks and deliveries) but although we had the windows open it didn't disturb us much. Being in a city, and on a city break, we were late to bed ourselves and slept soundly. (OK, maybe it was the Guiness.) We did speak to some people whose rooms overlooked the main road and they said it was noisy...but this is a city, not a country retreat.

We were a bit miffed to be told that we couldn't sit outside with our drinks late one evening in the courtyard as it might disturb people in their rooms. As it was still well within the bar opening hours we felt this was unfair. People staying in a city centre hotel that has a bar should expect some noise until the bar closes.

Rooms were clean, a bit worn, but perfectly comfortable. Bed was ok, and the room was spacious. Extra pillows and blankets were provided and there was a TV and comfortable seats. The usual hotel bits and pieces, like shampoo/bath stuff and tea/coffee stuff was basic. Like many hotels, not enough milk (those things only hold a spit) and no biscuits etc.

Staff were excellent, especially at breakfast. The 'full Irish' is delicious and freshly cooked. It's worth the short wait. In addition, there were cereals juices, yoghurts and fruit. I can't fault the breakfast service. Reception staff were also very helpful, apart from one lady who should have asked the Charm School for a refund.

The hotel is right near the city centre. There are shops, cab offices and bars just a few doors away. It's ok, and the waterfall is a beauty.

Excellent hotel

Great hotel in a good central location with friendly staff. Only a few minutes walk to the main shopping areas of Cork.

what a great place to stay

The staff at Isaac's were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and breakfast in the dining room was fantastic. We were able to book tours at the reception desk which made our holiday easier. The location is perfect. I stayed for 5 days and I can't wait to return, I will definately stay there again.

Nice, well located hotel.

Just come back from a two night stay here and overall I was pretty impressed having previously seen the mixed reviews. The staff were generally polite, room was spotless and the location just over the bridge and turn left from the bus station ideal after a hard day's walking.
Minor quibbles were that the room was too hot even with two windows open and the occasional din coming from the street. Also make sure you ask for the cooked breakfast as menus on tables states that they are nine and a half euros. I didn't on the first day on the assumption that it would cost extra and nobody else was having it. I thought I'd ask on the second morning to which the waitress enquired if I was staying in the hotel to which I gave the obvious reply!!! hey presto a cooked breakfast appeared.
The selection at breakfast could have been wider and service more prompt (understaffed). If you have time, catch a bus to Blarney (from St Patrick Quay not the bus station) which will fill at least a morning/afternoon.
Also try Banna Thai restaurant (behind Dunnes Stores - excellent) but don't bother with Indian Palace (overpriced, mediocre food).

What a lovely stay!!

I recently stayed at Hotel Isaac's in Cork with a group of 7 for St.Paddy's Day. The hotel is in a great location and was very clean. I was very impressed with the waterfall outside the hotel. It was so relaxing to sit along side of it and have a drink and a nice view in the morning while eating breakfast. The hotel staff was very nice and outgoing. The one that sticks out the most is "Heidi". She was extremely helpful in some problems I encountered with my room configurations.

If I am ever in Cork again, I would stay at Hotel Isaac's. Thanks for a memorable St. Paddy's Day!!!
