Touring Connamara - short day trip from Galway When leaving from Galway, try to get out of the city before 8.30am...the rush-hour in the morning is maddness. For the short tour, drive west on the Clifden Road...stopping in Oughterard, Maam Cross and Maam, before heading through Cornamona and Clonbur (signposted only in Irish, as An Fhairce). Stop here for lunch at Eddies Bar in Fairhill House Hotel. Its got a superb menu including lots of seafood. Great chowder!! Its a really quaint village, moving at snails pace...just right for winding down. Afterwards, take a pleasant and easy walk in the Clonbur woods down to the shore of Lough Mask, or head into Cong for the Quiet Man Tour. (allow a leisurely 2 hours for this stop and a leisurely stroll into Ashford Castle on Lough Corrib...a must-see). Then head back to Galway on the Headford road.
