A Hotel room at a guesthouse price

I stayed here for one night at the last minute when the construction job I was working on took in town longer than expected and I missed the last bus to Cork.

The price was EUR 45 per night, which is quite good, I thought the room would be like a guesthouse for that price but I was pleasantly surprise to find a TV, telephone, air-conditioning! and other hotel facilities like a restaurant.
A real gem!

Weary of backpackers, and impersonal larger hotels and motels....it was so refreshing to find real hospitality in this gem of a hotel which exuded history and charm. The staff went out of their way to help us with information on the local area, providing details of the best walks, horserides, and beaches. The place hummed with activity, and just sitting in the comfortable chairs in the lobby was a great way to get insight into life in an Irish country town. Staying in this hotel was wonderful entertainment in itself! Terrific music at three different bars.....the traditional Pub called "an teach Beag" was the best we found anywhere in the world.I wish we could bottle the atmosphere and music and take it with us! Good, reasonably priced food in the bars and restaurant, with a great wine list. We highly recommend this gem of a hotel to anyone travelling to that part of the world.
Absolutely Awful!

From the moment my wife and I walked into the hotel , it was a complete disaster and was delighted to be leaving on our last day.
The staff were extremely unhelpful, and the foreign girl at reception was very rude and unhelpful and very moody.
The restaurant was filthy dirty, and the food is awful.
It gives clonakilty such a bad name

The staff made a real effort to help us, even though the Hotel has less then 3 stars (not sure of the exact number) the receptionist researched golf courses in the area and bus times, and spoke some german to my relatives

Owner and some of the staff were very rude throughout the weekend to many of the guests. Would not recommend. Fawlty towers without any of the charm.

Top Local Tips for Clonakilty

Trad Sessions Check out the traditional music at An Teach Beag or in other locations around the town - there is a lot of natural talent in Clonakility! This is one place you can enjoy a bit of authentic and traditional Irish music.

An Sugan, lovely food An Sugan is a lovely place to eat for a great price, it gets busy fast so it is advisable to book it a few hours before hand

Hackneys There are no Taxis in the town, instead they are called Hackneys. The difference is you HAVE to phone the office, you CANNOT hail one on the street. It's a pity, but I guess that is the reality of a small town, it' not like London!
