Lovely hotel...

from A TripAdvisor Member
well, thanks to the earlier reviews of this hotel, we cancelled another hotel booking to book here. And, boy, are we glad we did. This hotel is new and very tastefully decorated. The hotel has a lovely ambience about it and the staff are very nice(apart from maybe one or 2 sullen faces). We were on the executive corridor which afforded us a beautiful big room with great big bed. Could not find fault with this place at all. Breakfast was the usual self-service fry up or continental - with a nice range of juices, cereals and yoghurts. Have to say, this is one great hotel and I would definitely go back. As stated earlier, we had booked another hotel (the Fitzpatrick hotel) and changed our minds once we read the reviews on that hotel. Please, please, if you are undecided as to which hotel to book... do not book the fitzpatrick. Out of curiosity we had a look at the fitzpatrick interior and it is horrific. Dull, damp and decor is awful. Thanks to the tripadvisor reviews, we avoided a horrible stay in Bunratty...

Great Weekend in Bunratty

from SuPaCheshireUK
The Bunratty Castle Hotel was well furnished and comfortable, breakfast was plentiful and served until a very civilised 10am, and the staff at the hotel were helpful and friendly. No complaints at all. The village of Bunratty has a number of good restaurants/pubs. 'Durty Nellies' served excellent food in a great atmosphere. 'The Creamery' was very good (we watched lots of rugby there) and the shop 'Avaco' also had a very nice cafe. We had a pleasant walk round the folk park and castle, where the guide filled us in on some of the history. Bunratty is well placed for the airport and Limerick, easily reached by car, there is also a regular bus service, which we made use of.
Enjoyed a great weekend in Bunratty - despite our rugby team 'Sale Sharks' losing to the local team 'Munsters', but thats another story!!

Imperfect but good enough

from LesleyToronto
Bunratty Castle seems to be about half-way through a remodeling. There are some aspects that seem oddly incomplete, like insufficient furniture in the bedroom (no bedside tables or bedside lamps), insufficient lighting in the bedroom, and a typically average North American buffet breakfast each morning (canned fruit, prunes, cereals, bacon, eggs, pancakes, etc.).

On the other hand, the exercise room is stunning. It's on the 2nd or 3rd floor facing a an expansive view of Bunratty Castle and the quaint cemetary. The equipment is brand new, state of the art - weights, bike machine, 2 high end tread mills. And it's decorated beautifully with hardwood floors. Truly, it was the best part of the hotel.

The bathroom was the next best part. An old-fashioned tub (skinny and deeep) and a separate new shower (not quite clean enough in my opinion). The decor was quaint and very nice.

The staff seemed somewhat short and unhelpful upon first approach, but if you're friendly and wait a minute of two, their humour, helpfulness, and friendliness come through.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel as a good, 3* hotel. If I was in the area again, I'd stay there again.

Not the best time Ive ever had!!

We stayed at Bunratty Castle Hotel for the weekend, arriving on a Friday night. First night, didnt sleep a wink as there were vibrations (though no noise), coming through the bed, felt like a washing washine on spin cycle constantly. At 4.30 am, I phoned reception they said they would move me, now considering my child was fast asleep and we had unpacked, moving at that hour was pointless, so we waited until the morning, went to the reception, the not so friendly middle aged lady said the builders must have left the generator on all night, she gave me a new room, I checked it out and the room was situated above the building site!! I thought she was having a laugh so I went back not very happy and eventually we got moved again to another room overlooking a grave yard! I guessed at least it would be quiet!! Was put in a non smoking room but on the 2nd (our last) night the stench all night of cigerettes coming from other room and through the walls was so discusting! I was very happy to leave this hotel. The hotel lobby and rooms do look nice. I stayed off season and was unhappy with the service, imagine if I had gone at peak of season. Next time we will be better off staying in a small personable place, such as a cosy B&B!!! Go to Limerick if you like shopping and The Creamary next door to the hotel for a bar dinner, very good quality and THEY treated us great!!

Great hotel

from Julia_Lynn
The hotel has a beautiful lobby with fireplaces & comfy loungs chairs. It also has a very atmospheric restaurant. The rooms are nice & big & the hotel staff was very friendly. They had a crib for our baby & highchairs too. What my husband & I thought was nice, was that the room was so spacious, it had a living area where we could put the crib. It was nice not to have the baby squeezed right next to us since at home he sleeps in his own room. The area is a little desolate, unless you are going to the wollen mills or castle; there are a couple of restaurants & pubs to, but to get to any type of city, you must drive. We definately recommend the Medival Banquet at Bunratty Castle, but as this is the off season, the folk park is non existant. My son & I strolled thru one day & I couldn't decide if it was more creepy or depressing. It looked like it would have been so fun during the tourist season, but there were only a few workers & some sad chickens around when we were there.

Smashing place!

Totally disagree with the previous reviews of this hotel. There was a horrible girl on reception but other than that we totally enjoyed our stay. We had a suite on the 2nd floor and it was fantastic. There was no entertainment in the bar during the weekend which was very disappointing but everything else was just fab. Looking forward to going back for a relaxing break sometime. Well worth the money!!!!!

Just average

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel seems very jaded from the hordes of tourists that it attracts. Upon arrival, the lobby was cold and in disarray from an event earlier in the day. The service was impersonal and without a smile, except for the wait staff at breakfast. The food at breakfast was almost mediocre with eggs that resembled a tasteless flan-like substance. This hotel serves a purpose if you are desperate for a place to stay at the last minute.

Not the best

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Bunratty Castle Hotel the last night of our honeymoon in Irelnad. We stayed at 4 star hotels, and this hotel is definitely not that. Lots of tour buses and the older set. Breakfast, which was included, was just okay, and the restaurant in the hotel was pretty cheesy. Plus, I thought that the Bunratty Castle attraction was lame. But, it is close to the Shannon airport.

Very Disapointing!

from WIBadgergirl
We were very disapointed in our stay at Bunratty. Although it is convenient to the Folk Park and Castle we expected a little bit more in regards to the rooms and service for the price they charge. First of all I had booked the room back in May requesting a double bed no smoking room, yet when we checked in they showed us to a room with two single beds. Then when we called the front desk to tell them this was not the room we had reserved they told us they didn't have anymore doubles left. Then right after my husband hung up the phone, an employee came to the door and said I understand you're not happy with your room and she'd show us a double on the next floor down. Well this room turned out to be a smoking room so needless to say, we got the double bed but didn't sleep because of the "smoky" smell. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Room was disappointing

from bbotch
For the price, I thought we would get more. The breakfast was the worst of all the trip (we stayed at all 3-4 star hotels). The bathroom needed renovations and we overlooked the top of the alley way and a random cemetery. Not the castle.
The lobby is really beautiful but the staff isn't the most helpful. It is 1.5 hours from Cliffs of Moher and the weather at the hotel may not be indicative of the weather at the cliffs.

Top Local Tips for Bunratty

Bunratty Castle Dinner If you're here, even for one night, check out Bunratty Castle's dinner show. You're greeted by musicians in an upper room of the castle (in a traditional manner with bread and mead), then moved below and treated to a lovely dinner by candlelight with live entertainers, and after dinner there is coffee and conversation in a room below. It's a magical experience and the young performers are really captivating.

Medieval Banquet Ask for a 2 night deal with the Medieval Banquet included, you won't be disappointed.

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park The mediveal banquet at the castle was great fun with good food. Would highly recommend it!
