Top Local Tips for Reykjavik
Tour Guides Their are two tour compaines Reykjavik Excursions and Greyline Tours. I used both and prefered Greyline over Reykjavik because the drivers and the tour guides were more professional with Grayline...plus you get a AAA discount with Greyline Tours. The Golden Circle Tour is a must and all companies offer it. And the best way to visit the Blue Lagoon is by booking with a tour and going on the way to the hotel...or the way to the airport. It's wonderful!
Avoid Icelandair Amazingly, their staff consciously tried to feed vegetarians on my flight meat meals. Besides that, they unashamedly double-charged my return flight. Hope you have better luck than I did if you're stuck with them.
Rent a car Main attractions in Iceland are natural wonders. Don't go with organized trip, especially if there are 2 or more in your group. Just rent a car and read any attraction guide (use the local bus attraction guide) to learn about nearby places worth of seeing. It costs you much less and you'll see more. The roads are quite easy to navigate. In our case there were 3 of us. We paid $114 for car rent (9 hours period for Toyota Corolla) with all possible insurances included. If we paid to the bus company for the same type of trip, it would be $250 - 270 and it'd take longer to see the same places. Besides, I like driving and I enjoyed driving in Iceland. Oh! The car had manual transmission; keep this in mind.
