Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Reykjavik Centrum Reykjavik Hotels
Excellent Location, Superb Hotel
from nycdannyboyHotel small but ok
from Jtravel1907Very small with very limited wardrobe space, barely enough room for the bed and no heating controls. But very modern design and had everything you needed, apart from the space. Bathroom was very small but well designed, shower was great - huge overhead shower head and also hand held. No bath though.
Bar
Liked the bar a lot, cool interior with nice furnishings. Service was quite a little slow in the bar and also the restaurant - in fact the staff seemed to be serving in both at the same time. Good quality food and very well presented, expensive but then this is Iceland!
Restaurant
Again very well designed and a nice environment to have dinner in, food was exeptionally well presented and of a very high quality.
Overall a pleasant enough experience, room size was disappointing, also there were no other facilities, other than one internet terminal. Service was friendly and usually pretty efficient.
Good central option
from merchants24In addition you get a beautifully constructed, well-designed hotel with typical Scandinavian touches with plenty of wood, glass and light. A word of caution to those light sleepers out there. Wooden floors in all bedrooms can lead to problems if you have neighbours who walk the boards during the night, or have a penchant for moving wooden furniture at 2am.
Beautiful
from KleinurOur room was very pleasant and a good size, with calming decor in soft greens and neutral colours. A good 'homely' feel unlike some of the more impersonal hotels you tend to find.
Good sized bathroom, that actually had a bath with a shower over, plenty of hot water.
Staff friendly, professional and helpful.
Decent choice at breakfast although at times the breakfast room got a little busy. However, we noticed that if you went a little later, say just after 9am, things were considerably quieter. It seemed that those who were going out on day trips and had to catch a coach somewhere were there earlier.
As it was our wedding anniversary, we splashed out on an evening meal at the restaurant. The food was superb, and for Iceland, the wine was a reasonable price.
We used the bar for evening meals for the rest of our stay, the food was equally brilliant and cheaper.
Very difficult to fault the Centrum. Only that the bed was a little on the firm side!
Not the hotel's fault, but some guests have a trouble keeping the noise down, by slamming doors and clomping around in heels!!
This was a great hotel, and we have decided to stay there again later this year.
Best things come in small packages!
from sandra_flitwickThe rooms were very small, particularly the wardrobes, which was a shame, as you need to bring plenty of warm clothes!
There is no bath, just a shower, again, after lots of activities during the day, it would have been nice to relax in a bath.
Like the previous reviewer, we had problems with the remote control for the TV. Apparently the Philips TV goes into sleep mode, which makes it seem as if the remote control doesn't work. The reception staff had by now figured this out and told us to switch off the TV at the mains and then try again. It worked!
Breakfast were very nice, but the dining area got very crowded in the mornings, so it is best to take your breakfast over to the adjoining bar.
The bar area was very welcoming and modern. The entire hotel is decorated in a contemporary style. In the summer a museum will be opening next to the jotel , which looks interesting.
We ate out most nights, but I hear that the food at Centrum was good.
Clean
from DarrenHenmanThe Hotel is in an excellent location near the centre of Reykjavik, in one of the oldest parts of the town.
The Building combines three separate buildings into one stylish and smart hotel. An excellent example of how to blend old style buildings into a functioning modern hotel.
The Rooms were very clean - as you should expect in a new hotel, but on the small size.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only problem I had was the TV Remote control didnt work and when I went to get some new batteries from Reception it still didnt work so I went back to get a new remote. But all they gave me was some further replacement batteries. Gave up in the end, so that was the only minor complaint.
Only had the Breakfast in the Hotel which was the same every day (the usual fair - Cereals, Bread, Cheese, Hams, Yogurt, & also Boiled Egg, Sausages Bacon, Scrambled Egg & Baked Beans) - A little more variety on different days would have been nice - especially if I was staying longer than 4 nights.
Staff Very Efficient at booking excursions.
Location.....
from peterscotYou are only about 80 yards from the central square - Parliament, the pond, shops, clubs, restaurants, etc and about 200 yards from the harbour, so could hardly be more central. (The Borg is more central, but they still seem to be finishing the top storey).
Rooms were'nt big, but comfortable and clean. Its good the way the old buildings are transformed into a new hotel. Later this year, a new museum is opening next door as they appear to have found remnants of the original settler's farm on this site.
Hotel Centrum is your best bet!
from Trigger75I planned and researched this trip on behalf of 8 friends, and I'm glad I chose this hotel over the other contenders (Radisson, Nordica, Borg).
Also, I booked my hotel and airfare separately, which I would recommend. If you look closely at the packages from Icelandair, you'll see there is zero discount on everything included. In other words, you're not paying less for buying it all at once. Pretty tricky IcelandAir! I think you're better off just buying as you go (airport transport, breakfast, etc), and using travel websites to get the best deals on lodging.
Great Location in Reykjavik
from YYZMAXFront office staff were friendly and knowledgeable and suggested several activities.
I found the people in Reykjavik so very friendly. Sevceral times while looking at a map, they would approach me to ask if they could help. The night life was great! These folks sure know how to have a great time.
Can't go wrong with the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum.
Location...
from Morag4The fact that breakfast was included was a great bonus in a city where things are unexplicably expensive.Would highly recommend the lovely pastries!!
Nice cosy bar, where a beer was about the same price as most other bars we tried. Didn't eat in the hotel resturant, but did hear very good reports, and it seemed to be popular at lunch time with local business people.
Cost was very reasonable, but i suspect that was down to the time of year. Booked with lastminute, cheaper than expedia...
Would we come back here, definitely....
Top Local Tips for Reykjavik
Excursion tips I recommend a company called "Discover the world" for organising excursions like Northern Lights tours or other sights. I found them very knowledgable and interesting, as well as offering improved transport over other companies (superjeeps instead of mini-buses, for example). You can find them at www.discover-the-world.co.uk
Dining is expensive in Reykjavik Food of any sort is expensive in Reykjavik. Even when trying to economize, it's easy to spend $60 or $70 US Dollars on a meal. However, don't overlook the small cafes located in most museums. These can give you a bit of a break at lunch time. The best I experienced is the one in the Culture House.
Hot dogs.. head to the Hot Dog stand around the corner towards the Harbour from the Hornid Restuarant.. INCREDIBLE!!!!I want one thinking about it!
