Stayed in NH Budapest for city break July, 2005. Excellently priced and placed hotel; just a few minutes from the Margaret Bridge. Lovely clean well equipped rooms. Great buffet breakfast. A very mixed clientele age wise. From families to young couples to oldies like us. Very helpful English speaking staff. Taxi rank at the corner, a couple of steps from the hotel. Wonderful city. Make sure you do an evening boat trip. Our second time using NH hotel group. Four star service at two star prices.

So close to being great

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel should be excellent, but just misses out.
Cheap as cheaps thanks to an online deal, its in a great position just minutes from one of the underground stops and only about a 5 minute walk from aprliament and the river.
On the negative side, the service is a bit hit or miss. The staff are all really friendly, and their english is excellent, but there were a few "funnies".
When we arrived on Friday night, we were told that there was a problem with the water on our floor and we had to stay elsewhere. This as a bit odd, as when we were checking in to the room there were people obviously moving out of the room next door! So, they had over booked and just lied about it. They sent us down in a taxi to the Radisson SAS, which for all its expense and rep, was a bit shabby in truth.
Anyway, when we did get in, the room was great. 8th floor. Next to the gym, view out the front over the roofs, all good. Nice furnishing but the double bed was just two singles pushed together! Very strange, as the bedside lockers were fixed in place etc, so no idea what was the idea.
Asked to extra pillows, didnt come. Both mornings we were there the cleaner walked into the room at 8am! No knock, just straight in. Then she didnt even come back - the room went untouched for the weekend and we had to ask for more towels etc.
All that aside, great spot, and we were probably just unlucky with the wee things as they were busy.

Great location - great price!

This hotel was a bargain find @ £45 per night, admittedly we did go during mid-week. The service was really friendly from receptionist, to cleaner, to waiter. The location is great on the side of Pest just a stone's throw from the Danube, West End Station is 3 mins walk away and there's a great little Italian restaurant called OK Italia that does great pasta nearby.

Only gripe is that the level of lighting in the rooms were a bit low and it wasn't helped by a room that faces into the lobby. Room cleaning was a bit slack too, not replacing coffee, toilet roll or washing the used cups! Apart from that, the hotel is great, oh yeah the food in the restaurant comes highly recommended! Good stuff!

My partner and I stayed here from February 18 to the 21. We chose it based on what we read on Tripadvisor and the rate that we got from Hotels.

From the moment we arrived, we new we had made the right choice. The hotel is only about 2 years old so it's very new. The front desk personnel were all very friendly and efficient. The lobby/bar/restaurant, though modern, has a warm welcoming feel to it. Our room was on the 7th floor and it, too was very well appointed and cozy. We especially liked the color schemes used throughout. Everything was spotless.

The bar is a great place to relax and have a drink. Krisztian was especially friendly and helpful. We had one dinner at the restaurant which was excellent. Istvan the waiter was also very nice. On our last day we had the breakfast buffet. There was a large variety to choose from for every taste. If you can get it as part of your hotel price I would suggest getting it.

The location is on the Pest side, a few blocks north of the Parliament Building. We love to walk so we walked everywhere, but public transportation is half a block away and taxis are usually right outside.

On the 8th floor there is a small fitness center and a sauna.

Overall, a very pleasant experience. We would definetly stay here again.

Brilliant hotel BUT......

Let me start by saying that this is indeed a lovely hotel. We had a problem with the sink in our room so they moved us to the top floor on an upgrade. It's very modern and clean. The breakfast has the best choice of any hotel I've been to and the staff are friendly. Now for the BUT.......the maid accidentally threw away my orthodontic retainer, reception were helpful and helped us to look for it although to no avail. I was then told to inform them of the cost of a replacement and they would look into re-imbursing my costs and this is where the problem starts. Despite 2 emails to the manager, 1 to his assistant and 1 to the main NH head office I have heard nothing back at all. I would expect to have at least some response and this is the only thing that lets the hotel down and from my view badly. Had this not occured then our stay would have been 4*. Go to the Ok Italia round the corner - great pizza's!

Excellent hotel in a great location

Came back from this hotel yesterday and was truely impressed with the hotel, its services and their staff. I rarely come across hotels that look like their photographs but the NH hotel looked exactly like their photographs, which was amazing. Used the hungarian taxi online service and the driver was waiting in the arrivals section even though my plane was delayed. He drove us in a mercedes both ways, which went down a treat with my boyfriend - which was a surprise trip for his birthday. The hotel is in a central location with the westend shopping centre probably 5-10 mins away and the main Nyugati ter station is less than 5 mins away for those who want to catch trains/metro to places outside of the city or even within the city. The trams were situated 2 mins away and always looked packed because of the central location. The Margrit Bridge was 5 mins down the road. On our first day it took us 15 mins to get to the parliment, after that we discovered smaller side roads that would get you there even quicker (took us less than 5 mins). All I can say is, don't be afraid to explore small streets as they are sometimes the best way of getting to places.
Spoons restuarant was nice, Mosselen Bar was goregous, its located 2 mins away from the hotel and okay italian was great too. Did a tour of the city through Eurama Travel (booked it on octopustravel.com) which was excellent, they showed the whole city in 3 hours and most of the places we visited weren't even mentioned on the website. We missed the 10 o'clock tour as we couldnt find the place, and the hotel staff called up the company and arranged for us to go on the 2 o'clock tour - which i was impressed with as they could have told us the phone number and expected us to sort it out ourselves (the travel company also have a hotel pick up service but I thought it would be best to explore the city whilst trying to find the place). Cost of living in Budapest I found were sometimes expensive - slightly cheaper than prices in the UK but it was all worth it. I would definatly recommend the Szechenyi spa - see my review under the attractions bit. Loved our holiday and considering going back later this year as 3 nights were not enough. Budapest is definatly the place to visit during the winter!!

Brilliant Budapest!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a brilliant hotel!

I used the Tripadvisor sight to choose my hotel in Budapest and I wasn't disapointed.

The NH is in a great part of the city, with easy access to public transport. It's also really nicely designed and extremely stylish. The staff are very polite and friendly and breakfast was fab!

There are a number of restraunts, shops and small supermarkets nearby the hotel.

I would recommend it as a great base to explore a truly exciting and beautiful city!

I will definately be returning in the very near future.

Great Hotel

Really great hotel. Used Trip Advisor to plan a weekend away to the city and was not dissapointed after finding the the NH on the site. Great location (1 min walk to river bank, 15mins walk to Parliment building). Also very close to tram line. Breakfast was huge - pastries, fruit, meats, breads, cerals, the works. Nice room with good extras in the bathroom.
Recommended sights in Budapest: Thermal Baths to north of city, massive municipal ice rink, views from the statue at the top of Buda hill. Recommened restaurant: Spoon - restaurant on boat right by the main bridge, very romantic, great food, good value.

great hotel

We spent last weekend in the NH budapest hotel - great new hotel in a very good location near Margit Bridge. Room was immaculate and lots of bathroom goodies. The hotel was near the trams and the bus routes and an easy walk over the bridge to the Buda side of the city. The staff all spoke really good English and it was great value at 72 euros per night. The breakfast was fairly expensive so we chose to get ours in one of the many very good coffee houses nearby. We looked at trip adviser for assistance prior to booking, and and narrowed our choice down to either the NH budapest or the Victoria. Glad we chose NHBudapest for a winter break, but I'm sure that Victoria would be a good choice for the summer - on riverside - Would definately use the Nh hoteles group again

My wife, myself and our 4 month old son did a weekend trip from our home (Vienna, Austria) to Budapest in early January 2004.
Our Viennese travel agency recommended the NH, as we were looking for a comfortable, quiet place close to the city center.
The NH definitely more than matched our expectations. We got an excellent, spacious room with a small balcony on the 6th floor.
The NH is a rather new hotel, designed in quite modern architecture. The room was very clean and comfortable and equipped with TV, internet access, air condition etc.
The hotel restaurant, which we tried for dinner, served an excellent meal (the best vennisson, I've ever had!). The breakfast buffet was also definitely above average and included plenty of everything we desired.
The staff - a professional team with very good foreign language skills -was very kind and gave us a helping hand whereever needed.
The Hotel also has a Garage.
The location is quite convenient. It takes a 5 minutes walk to the Parliament, 5 Minutes to the large westend shopping center and about 20 minutes to the major sights (castle, cathedral, Andrassy street).
We noticed, that Alitalia chose the NH to accomodate their airline staff (pilots, etc.).

Last but not least, we were surprised by the extraordinary low price, we paid via our travel agency.

Just the job

I booked this hotel - on the advise of Trip Advisor - and I'm very glad I did. I took my wife to Budapest for her birthday and spent 2 nights in the NH Budapest. The location, although not right amongst the sites is close enough and the walk into the centre is a very pleasant 15 minute stroll. The rooms were excellent - stylish and with everything you need - and the showers were so powerful they nearly took the skin off my back. Service was impeccable and the breakfast was as good as if not better than any buffet breakfast I've had in a hotel. All in all a very nice stay in a great city
