Well situated, agreable rooms, nice breakfast, good service; I am attending seminars in Budapest since more than ten years and have spent at least 8 excellent stays in this hotel!

Top Local Tips for Budapest

Good Bars If you like lively bars with 80s, 90s & 00s music def go to Alcatraz or Old Mans, my preference was Alcatraz - this is about 10 mins from Mercure Korona, Irish Cat is next to Mercure Korona. Also Studio club for a bit harder Dance music

Airport transfer The airport minibus service from the airport is fab. Good value for money and will take you direct to your hotel and pick you up again for your return. Saves a lot of bother when you arrive.

Subway scam I was fined the equivalent of $40 for not having a subway ticket, when I did have one. While exiting the subway to the train station the transit police stopped me. I showed them my two tickets, he then took them and said I had only one (he palmed the other) but because I was a tourist he would only fine me $40 (US equivalent) instead of $80. I did not want to get into an argument with the police, so I paid, and I did not get a receipt. (He said receipts cost $40). This is the only time I have ever been shaken down by the police in all of my travels. I watched them in action for a few minutes afterwards and they were clearly targeting tourists with luggage. What a great way to promote tourism; scam the tourists as they are leaving.
