In a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by private homes and pleasant streets. Furnishings comfortable, food and wine better than adequate. We welcomed the opportunity to rest and relax after a long day of travel. Would stay there again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Mercure Buda Hotel

Standard tourist/business hotel

from viaggiando
I stayed in Mercure Buda for business purposes. It is a normal, decent hotel catering to tourists and business travellers. It is located near a subway station (suite synister at night, though) and a short uphill (stairs) walk to Buda castle. Rooms are not remarkable but perfectly OK. It has free Internet available to guests and a fitness with sauna and a small swimming pool. I would not especially select it for a romantic getaway, nevertheless I would not mind going back.

Good value hotel

from rmr555
I recently stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights. On the whole I was impressed, considering the cheap rates, it is excellent value for money. The staff on the front desk are helpful and speak very good English. The rooms are small but clean and warm, with all the facilities you would expect from a mid-range hotel. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, with a wide range of foods from salami to pickled peppers, cornflakes, several different variety of eggs, a ranges of breads and pastries with bucks fizz to wash it all down if you so desire (or tea and coffee for the less adventurous!) Slight downsides - the rooms were very hot, so we opened a window which in turn meant the traffic noise was very loud. Also, the hotel bar is very expensive by comparison with pretty much everywhere else we encountered in Budapest. However, overall it is definately good value for money.

convienient location - excellent restaurant!

I spent 3 days at this hotel between Christmas and New Year with my boyfriend. We had a room on the 5th floor which was a fully no-smoking floor. The room was average but clean with a nice bathroom and lovely warm bedding.

We had a great meal at the hotel restaurant - the meat was cooked to perfection. The menu all looked good and I would recomend it to anyone staying there - we were very suprised as we were not expecting it to be so good!

The location was very convenient for the metro which was about 3 minutes walk away.

I would recommend this hotel to someone who wanted a quiet area with good transport links. We got a good deal through Lastminute.

Mercure Buda

Just returned from 3 nights at this hotel (April 2005), overall it is a very good hotel, excellent breakfast selection and close to the metro station that takes you directly into Pest, though the station itself (called the Deli Pu)had alot of vagrants and homeless people living at the entrance to it which made you feel quite uncomfortable, especially if returning during late evening though we did notice that there were always police standing around. The only problem we had on arrival at this hotel was the horrible small, dull looking room we were allocated that had a funny smell with a connecting door that when we opened it we found there was a huge wedge of foam stuffed in the doorway and we could hear someone in the next room talking away quite clearly!! So we immediately asked for another room and without question the staff arranged this for us but the next room, though a little bigger, still had that dull dirty look about it with that funny smell, however after a long day travelling we were glad to sleep there but the following morning when we woke we realized that the smell was an odour of cigarette smoke, so once again we asked to change rooms as we had specifically requested a non smoking room and had sent an email the week before our arrival to confirm this, to which they sent a lovely reply confirming just that, obviously not understanding what "non smoking" meant! Third time lucky we were eventually given a non smoking room on the 4th floor which is a whole floor dedicated to non smoking. The rooms on this floor were fantastic, large, bright and airy and the bathrooms clean with white tiles, unlike the previous two rooms which bathrooms looked old and had horrid brown tiles. So it appears that they keep the better rooms for the non smokers and give the grotty rooms to those of you who smoke!! There were two non smoking floors at this hotel and the 8th floor was the executive floor with even better rooms apparantly! Overall this is a really good value for money hotel with gym, swim pool, bar & restaurant..........if you hit on the right room!! We would return but only after requesting a room on the 4th or 5th floor and getting it confirmed in capital letters!!

Enjoyed This Hotel!

First the good news: There's a great, free whirlpool, sauna, steam room and swimming pool inside this hotel. The breakfast was pretty good (but no way to make toast, which seemed odd), and the staff (aside from a few crabby waiters), was great. Our room was clean and quiet. It was a very nice stay, although, it is on the Buda side of town, which seems to have a little less going on than in Pest.

Very Reasonable

A group of 5 of us stayed in the Mercure Buda in March 05. It was perfect. We only padi €58 for 3 nights each - through Octopus Travel. The rooms were perfect, clean and spacious and the shower was lovely The breakfast was really good and the staff were very friendly. It was a bit noisy in the morning with the chamber maids. We were 10 minute walk from the castle. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed at this hotel in 2004 and found the rooms to be noisy at night as the rail is just across the street. The rooms are clean and the breakfast was very good.

I think that the good opinions about of this hotel are related to the rooms of executive floor. The standard rooms aren't remodelled and are very bad.

very good

Stay in Mercure Buda Hotel-it is excellent Value

from coono
My partner and I, along with 2 friends have just returned to Dublin(Ireland) after a 4 day trip to Budapest. We stayed at the Mercure Buda Hotel and were very pleased with the hotel. Our rooms on the 7th floor were exceptionally large, clean and very comfortable with lovely views towards the Castle District.
The breakfast each morning was plentiful while the hotel staff were really nice and helpful.
The hotel is nicely located away from the busy areas yet is only a 2 minute walk to the nearest train/metro station with while the #18 tram stops almost outside the fron dooer of the hotel.
Take the red line metro only 4 stops to Deak Ter for plenty of other transport modes to Vaci Street for shopping and check out 'Abzinth' Restaurant in Andrassy Street(Ut)-near Opera House, for a wonderful meal at reasonable price. A few doors further along is 'Cafe Mezzo'-another exceptional restaurant with wonderful food at a great price.
both restaurants are open til 2am at weekends with live (but not intruding) local musicians.
