Andrassy, Budapest - Good, solid hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt was our first trip to Budapest and we found the advice from the reception staff invaluable. All of the staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and all (that we encountered anyway) spoke good English.
The room that we stayed in was the cheapest available (Standard room, I think) but was very clean, had a very comfortable bed and a fair amount of facilities. The only thing that we felt the room was missing was a full length mirror. The room had an internet connection and a TV equipped with approx. 20 channels, although only 2 were in English: BBC World and CNN (there were also channels in French and German). The mini bar in the room gave a huge selection, but was quite expensive.
Although the Standard Room did not include breakfast, we did attend breakfast once for a price of approx. 12 Euros each. This price did not include any hot items (for which there was an additional charge), but the breakfast buffet available included a wide range of dishes, from fresh fruit to cold meats and fish. We did not dine in the restaurant during our stay, but the menu did look appetizing and reasonably priced. The hotel bar is attached to the restaurant and gave a fair choice of cocktails, spirits and bottled drinks and a draught beer (Budweiser Budvar), all at reasonable prices.
The location of the hotel is approx 30mins walk from the heart of the city, but only 2mins walk from the nearest Metro station, from which the city centre is less than 5 mins away. However, the hotel is only a stone's throw from City Park which contains various tourist attractions such as Heroes Square, the Zoo etc. and Gundel Restaurant (excellent but expensive!!!). Therefore, I wouldn't let the location put you off staying at the Andrassy Hotel.
Overall, I would definately recommend a stay at the Andrassy Hotel. We were happy with all aspect of the hotel which were at an above average standard. During our stay in Budapest, we did notice other hotels that we considered when booking our holiday such as the Gellert, the Hilton etc. and, to be honest, they did look very impressive. However, if you are looking for a stay in a small hotel, with a good atmosphere and friendly staff, I think you'll be hard pushed to beat the Andrassy Hotel.

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe stole our money and are now ignoring us
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe had money stolen from our suitcase from our room on the last night. When we reported this they were polite and concerned and promised to let us know the results of their investigation (their manager was in meetings all that morning and the cleaner had the day off!). We left our phone numbers, postal address and email address and have heard nothing back. I emailed them several times (to various variants of their email address), I faxed them but still have received no acknowledgment.
Would I stay there again? Not if I wanted to keep my belongings!
Cheers
Daniel
With regret I have read your listing on a complaint, which you felt was not handled well. Please take note that we have indeed noted your claim that money has been stolen. Complaints as such are not taken lightly, and require an investigation which is taking place. To date no indications have been found to support your claim; however, we wish to be thorough and have therefore not concluded this issue yet. Please be so kind to contact me in person for a follow-up.
Thank you.
Great Budapest Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberStaff were very attentive and always pleasant and helpful. It made our stay one of the best we have had anywhere.I highly recommend this hotel.
There is no better!!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberLuxury, elegance, inner peace
from default111I stayed 4 days in this hotel at the end of november for a long break and i am used to stay in that kind of hotels for business purpose.
It is located at the end of Andrassy (the top avenue of B),closed to the embassies. The location is calm and beautiful but not far from the Oktogon bustling aera (2 stops in subway). The outside architecture of the hotel reminds of bauhaus style.Room is spatious and well furnished (mediterranean style with wrought iron)with a balcony.Bathroom and Zebrano restaurant are in keeping.
Staff is professional, friendly and helpful and will welcome you with a glass of Hungarian champagne.
Breakfast buffet is delicious (specially the croissants).
A perfect place for a business trip or a romantic week-end.
Lovely hotel with great service
from Guy BrindleThe location is fine for tourism, just a few minutes from Hero's square where you can find Thermal Baths and a great outdoor ice rink (recommended!). Here you will also find the Gundel restaurant - meant to be the best in Budapest, and it really is a lovely dining experience, we enjoyed every minute. The main centre of town is a short taxi ride away, or you can walk it if you prefer (20 mins or so). There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.
The hotel itself is very nice. More importantly the service is excellent. I noticed one reviewer complaining about a lack of complimentary water - room service supplied everything we needed, including water!, and were always at the door within one or two minutes at most.
The restaurant was quiet when we ate there, but again the service was spot on and the food good.
Overall, this hotel is ideal for the toursit on a city break. The service is really very good, the staff very friendly and the location is fine. It's one of those hotels that seems to enjoy providing little touches (like free broadband computer/access) that many others charge for or don't offer.
Highly recommended.
Top Local Tips for Budapest
The Splendour of the Medicis - Art and Life in Renaissance Florence The Museum of fine Arts is currently hosting the exhibition entitled "The Spendour of the Medicis - Art and Life in Renaissance Florence", opening on the 550th anniversary of crowning Matthias Corvinus king, provides visitors with an insight into the Medicis patronage and art collection. The exhibition ends in June of 2008 and is well worth a visit.
Cafe Gerbaud - don't bother After reading the guide book and going on a bus tour, we felt obliged to visit Cafe Gerbaud, apparently the best confectioner/cafe in Budapest, a national institution. Don't waste your time or money, the food was below average to say the least, and terribly overpriced. Cafe Lucasz in Andrassy Street was much nicer
Subway The subway was clean, fast and cheap. The Andrassy line is an historic gem.
