On top of the Buda Hills ovwerlooking Budapest the Normafa Hotel is a great place if you like some greenery and pleasant surroundings yet be close to the city attractions. The staff are very friendly. Excellent pool, sauna and steam room. Do take a walk nearby. Great views and the locals come up to enjoy the woods. Bus 21 or 90 is fine into town. If you fancy a change take the cog railway. We used a 7 day travel pass which was great value. Enjoyed the Budapest Spring Music Festival and the Fringe. Will be back!

Lovely peaceful Hotel

Had a lovely 3 night stay at the Normafa Hotel. It is out of the city but public transport is so quick and easy it is no problem. The Hotel is very well kept with plenty of facilities. The breakfast was really lovely with plenty of choice. Reception staff were very helpful and polite. We used the outdoor pool which was heated to 78 degrees. All in all a lovely place to stay.

I stayed with my girlfriend in this hotel for a weekend in January. It was very cold at that time in Budapest. We liked the hotel a lot. They kept the outside, heated swimming pool open will there was snow outside! A lovely experience to swim in that outside pool after taking the sauna or the turkish bath. The grill restaurant next door was also very good. Friendly staff as well.
I recommend it.

We stayed at the Hotel Normafa and asked for an apartment, which was at no extra cost. These have a seperate bedroom and are slightly bigger. Fantastic hotel and service was excellent. Cafe and Grill next door serve fantastic food. We had snow and were able to sledge in the nature reserve opposite the hotel. About 20 minutes bus drive to the centre of Budapest. Transport very easy. We swam in the outside pool even though it was snowing it is heated! sauna, steam and gym. Highly recommended lovely rooms with mini bar, tv, hairdryer etc. you do have to pay for tea and coffee in your room. Breakfast is buffet style but really good food.

It's ok and good value for money. But heaving read all of the extraordinarily positive comments before booking, I could not really understand that hype after having been there myself. The staff is friendly, rooms are spacious, functional and averagely clean. Breakfast is ok, extras (like pancake etc.) for free is a plus point. Lovely surrounding and the beautiful city of Budapest is easy to reach. Would not mind returning to this hotel but no "fantastic hotel" impression either...it's average.

Fantastic Hotel

This hotel is a real Gem !! Located in the Buda Hills it felt like an Alpine break (Snow/ski's/sledging) but was also a short bus/tube ride to the centre of Budapest.

The Hotel itself is fantastic value for money with great facilities and a really warm almost family run feel to it.

Remember your trunks for the Outdoor heated pool (28 degrees) which is very romantic and mysterious as the steam shrouds the snow - and if you can't brave the pool there's superb sauna and steam rooms to enjoy.

The rooms are clean, spacious and look like they've been recently refurbished.

Perhaps not the place to stay if your after an "out and out" City break, but for somewhere to chill out you'll struggle to beat it.

All in all I can't fault this hotel one bit and will definatly return one day soon.

Have just returned from a snowy trip at the wonderful Normafa. Booked early and stayed in a suite for the apparent price of a single room.

Was very impressed with the room- separate bedroom with ensuite and a nice louge with chairs and a good TV. Prepare yourself for German Tv though! Great balcony that overlooked the gardens.

The hotel is very neat and kept immaculately clean, a great bonus. I was acutally looking to find a spot of mould or damp, but couldnt! The facilities are excellent- the fitness centre and sauna were perfect and excellent way to forget the guilt brought on by the ample and delicious food- both at breakfast and from the Normafa grill.

the staff at reception were very good and were happy to organise opera, cinema and tranport tickets, as well as provide local advice. We went for the 3 day travel card over the budapest card on their suggestion, proved to be the right choice.

we rented sledges from reception and spent an afternoon hurtling down the snow covered hills of the national park- which gave amazing views of the city. it really was as much fun as you can have with your trousers on.

I would return to the Normafa in a heartbeat.

In fact, i wish a was still there now.

Friendly Normafa hotel

Just returned from a 3 night New Year stay at the Normafa Hotel. No complaints at all. The setting and surrondings of the hotel are fantastic and only a short bus ride in to the city. We went half board which I highly recommend. Excellent value for money, excellent food, varied menu and massive portions. The staff were great too, very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Brilliant Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. They were family friendly, breakfasts were lovely and the staff were so friendly and polite. Excellent value for money and would certainly stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Budapest

basic but it helps learn some basic hungarian phrases. Get a map that includes tram and bus no's it helps getting where you want to go.

So easy to get around... Arguably the buses, trams and subway all offer the best services in the world, certainly we have never experienced anything so efficient. Everyone from the EU over 65 travels free - no forms tofill up up either - just carry some sort of proof of age.

Just because your in a former Eastern Bloc Country.... Does not mean everything is always going to be dirt cheap! Be sure to check the prices of everything! It's easy to get confused with an unfamiliar currency. My wife ended up paying F3000 For a small glass of wine. This is about £8.50. Ouch!
