Very clean and pleasant hotel. the staff were very welcoming and extremely helpful. Only a 3 minute bus trip to the city centre over the Elizabeth Bridge. The prices are very reasonable, the restaurant serves a very good and varied selection, again at very reasonable prices. if i had a criticism to make it would only be that the main road outside can be a bit noisy but that did not detract from an enjoyable stay. The staff are only too pleased to help with any queries re sites, restaurants etc etc. Certainly if in budapest again i would be more than happy to stay here.

Top Local Tips for Budapest

Keleti train station nightmare This train station is right out of a film noir nightmare - old, grimy, in a seedy part of town, it literally stinks. We arrived at 9:30pm, all the info booths were closed, there were not even a map to help guide tourists to the trains or buses. With no one speaking english except to solicite shady deals (cheap rooms? girlie escorts?), we had to go up and down many staircases with all our luggages to find the subway station, then the ticket machines don't accept bills, only coins, which were not available. We tried walking into the subway without tickets only to find nasty officers who threated to fine us on the spot - no one to help us get tickets, but plenty to arrest us for not having them. We had no choice but to take a taxi to our hotel, which did not provide the shuttle as promised. Lots of taxis around, but they charge twice or more of the normal rate, and they don't speak english or know where the hotel is. To add to the experience, there was a guy peeing in full view.

Castle Hill The palace museum's special exhibits are exquisite and worth spending the relatively small admission fee to enter.

Buy a pass Public transportation is so easy to use there. Paying for taxis get really old; it's so economical to use the public system. For a 7 day pass it was like $30. For a single ride, it's about $1.50. The pass can be used for busses, trams, and the metro. It's the best deal! Also, only take rides from taxis w/ a name on the side, independent ones will screw you. Also, the taxi rate doubles after midnight. It can be very, very expensive.
