Top Local Tips for Zakynthos
Always book your stay with not the locals they will kill you in the pricing,!!! always have an interpretuer with you daily. If you need to shop get someone that is of Greek decent but was raised in the USA or England or another country other than Europe or middle east or Asia or Africa. Their concept of lanquage is closer to understanding the words better and also speaking them back to you correctly.I know what pricing alot of ite and they know how to look out for the bartering geniouses that think they can barter your money..Book you hotel rooms though me only so you can cut out the upcharges that the same owners put on thier up charge tags to make extra money if they can, Well ,I dont and i save you money if you book through me. I am an American Greek living in Greece now and helping tourists feel at home here on Zakynthos Island, That is why so many want to work with me yearly. they wont contact hotels directly, they let me do it to save them alot of money. All I need are your names, addresses, where in greece do you all plan to stay and #of guests/ages
Dining out in Kalamaki The are hundreds of taverna's to choose from. Most are reasonably priced and have a menu that takes you half an hour to look through! Lunches cost us about 10 euro (greek salad, calamaris, souvlaki etc) for two and the evening cost about 6-9 euros each for a main course. Portions are very generous, fresh and very tasty - try lamb kleftiko or beef stifado.Favourite resturants included - Michaelos (very funny waiters), Zakanoh, Escape, Artemis and Stanis. Local wine is good, crisp and fruity but steer clear of 'village' wine unless you are armed with headache pills! Mythos and Alpha are good local beers and are cheaper than anything else (you can buy a beer in MacDonalds btw!).Pee ess - ask for a bag/box for any leftovers and feed the cats on the way home!
