I was looking for a cheap hotel for my short weekend vacation in Thessaloniki and for a 2-star hotel I expected just a bed and the breakfast which was included in the rate. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cosy room which had everything necessary for a pleasant and enjoyable stay - tv, fridge, it was warm, the bathroom was furnished with all necessary towels and appliances. Just in case anybody needs them, there were also additional blankets in the wardrobe. The staff was also very friendly. The hotel is situated very close to most of the tourist attractions and they can be easily reached by foot.

A real hotel two minutes from the centrail railway station, Hotel Rex is better on the inside than its aged exterior belies. Both times I've stayed (June 2007 and August 2007), the staff have been very accomodating and friendly. Rooms on the first and second stories have been refurbished; above that, they're older looking, but fineĀ—and less expensive. Just, in the summer, unless you only want to be cooled with A/C, ask for a room with a window to the exterior. Free internet, too!

Clean new rooms with great stuff. Just across the railway station, minutes walk to everything. And really good rates.
