Top Local Tips for Thessaloniki

Historical gems Don't miss the numerous little Byzantine churches tucked away all over the city. And do go down to the crypt in the church of St. Demetrios -- it's the oldest part, fascinating and atmospheric.

Hot, hot, hot We were there at the beginning of August and boy was it hot. I wouldn't recommend visiting at this time of year as it is too hot to leave the hotel between 10am and 4pm. Late spring, early autumn would probably be much better.
