We could only seem to find websites showing the beaches and some beautiful views. What we soon realised about Skiathos is that yes it is beautiful with its amazing views, massive variety of places to eat and clear blue seas but that maybe we were just a little to young for this type of holiday.
Don't get me wrong there is a large strip of bars just past the port near a place called Scuna which could easily fit in with those of Ibiza but the energy isn't there. They look lovely and the drinks are good but don't try standing up and dancing because you may just be the only one.
Instead we decided to just sit back relax and count the number of people wearing "Holiday White Pants". Skiathos does have the most clear seas with no sign of jellyfish or rubbish. It also has many places to eat offering a variety of Italian, Greek and other popular dishes. Skiathos town itself has a lot of shops selling the usual gifts but there are also some nicer shops selling that something special. It is definately worth a visit but you may sense a lot of Deja Vous as the island is pretty small and you end up being in the same place seeing the same faces.
I recommend Scuna restaurant, the tapas bar situated above the main strip under the windmill restaurant mainly for its views. I also recommend visiting the bars on either end of the port. There is a lady who works at the end bar close to the church she is worth watching as she tries to fit everyone in with her floor cushions. You should also enjoy a film in the open air cinema as it makes a change to see stars twinkling above you whilst you watch a movie. We took a bus from outside our hotel (La Piscine Art Hotel) just past the pet shop from the main road to Koukounaries beach which is big and beautiful but doesn't have many shops. All in all worth a visit at least once in your life even if just for the ice cream near the cash point facing the port and for the people watching. Enjoy.

Top Local Tips for Skiathos
Public transport Don't bother hiring a car the public transport is very efficeint and will get you were ever you want
Cost of Living Take 30% extra spending money. Contrary to other Greek Islands, Skiathos is NOT cheap. Prices are a good 25-30% above Spain and the Canary Islands and one of the most expensive Greek Islands I have visited (6 in total). Don't let this deter you though, I still felt that we had value for money.
Top restaurants My partner and I are real foodies and before we went we compiled a list of reccommended reataurants. The food on the island is generally excellent but the following list of places to eat provided consisitently excellent food: Selinis- behind old port. 1901. Jailhouse. Tapas Bar.
