We have just returned from Thymis Home for the 2nd year running and have always found the staff & owner very pleasant. The hotel is kept very clean and rooms extremely comfortable. It is ideally located for Skiathos Town, although in a very quiet area. We will be returning next year.

The rooms are fine and with a flat sceen tele and a mini hi fi (MP3 compatable) have all you need, but the owner is the least welcoming person I have ever had to deal with and some of the maids practices are bizarre.
Beware of Vinegar being boiled in kettles at 7 pm,entering rooms as late as 10.30pm,be also aware that the Air Con has to bought for the whole week and you will be charged 50 eruos even if only want iy for 2 days.
A great location made our stay preety good dispite the best everts of the staff.

Our studio was adequate but not quite what I expected, quite small. The picture featured in the brochure is of the hotel lobby! The balcony was so small you could not really sit on it. The room however was comfortable and always cleaned thoroughly, a bit too thoroughly at times! - The maids although friendly woke us up shouting loudly outside and also completely ignored the ‘do not disturb' sign and knocked anyway asking to be in! There are signs telling you not to move furniture and warning you about breakages. The wardrobe is tiny, especially for two weeks. I walked past the kitchenette because it was so small I missed it - it folds away. The bathroom had a hairdryer in it, but it was slow so I used my own. The power shower was excellent but the cubicle didn't work properly as it wasn't sealed properly in places and so the floor was always still soaking wet whenever we showered. This was also because the water always came up through the floor (there must have been a problem with drainage or something). We asked another couple later on and they did not have this problem in their room, it was just ours. We did not like to say anything in case they blamed us for the problem! On arrival we were charged ninety euros for two weeks air conditioning which I thought was extortionate, so we did not get a safety deposit box as we normally do. The air conditioning did work well though, and we needed it too - it was 42 degrees when we arrived! The kettle did not work which we reported immediately to Miriam the owner and it was replaced without any fuss or argument on the same day.

On arrival our cases were taken away and we found them in the street on arrival at the Thymis. On our departure, although we weren't flying until 3.45pm, we were told by our rep we still had to leave our cases for collection at 7am that morning which no one was warned about! A lot of people we spoke to were irritated by this. It was too early, made the day longer and meant you had to pack the night before. If you wanted a shower or anything you still had to keep things out. It was hassle. Hours later at the airport we were reunited with our belongings - they were sitting in the garden of a local taverna at the airport! I had no idea this would happen and was not happy about it. I would have preferred to drag my case along to the bus stop or get a taxi. I wish I had been told about this.

We were told this was the best accommodation on Skiathos however I am not sure I would stay here again as the pool is tiny and gets crowded at certain times. There are only two sunbeds! We were told we could not take drinks to the pool, as we were informed the hotel could be fined for this, yet there was no pool bar. The apartments are not that modern just comfortable and quirky. I am told Miriam is putting plasma TV's in next year but I felt lack of space, especially by the pool was the biggest downfall.

I felt that everything on this island was expensive, but saying that you did get what you paid for. The food is really fabulous if you are prepared to pay a little bit more. On the first night we went to Dionysos which was OK but nothing special. Very cheap though, I can see why it is popular! We much preferred the two Greek restaurants at the very top of Papadiamatis Street, Polycratis and Asprolithos). The Windmill is an incredible restaurant with great views and although very expensive is well worth at least one trip. It must surely be the best restaurant on the island. Two weeks was really too long for us. We felt the town although it was quite pretty somehow lacked atmosphere and it is also very crowded indeed at night, so I do not feel it was really suitable for couples wanting a romantic break. There are loads of children too, mostly locals, and mopeds everywhere - it gets really chaotic. Bar Street is open all night too but that's a good walk from the Thymis so the noise does not affect you. I love nightlife but it was boring to be honest so we only stayed out at Bar Street once. We went to a few beaches and surprisingly liked Koukounaries the best. Banana beach was a long walk, no quieter but fewer facilities.

All in all it was a decent enough break just but not quite as relaxing as we had hoped for. We enjoyed the new town watching the planes land right next to us! Skiathos is also a bit of a smelly town too! I think they have a few problems with drainage or something. It might not bother some people but it bothered me! This was nearly my honeymoon but I am so glad it wasn't. I know an awful lot of people return to Skiathos year in year out but I doubt I will be returning. Maybe I have missed something or it was the wrong time of year but there are a lot of other places I can think of that are just as nice!
