We loved every Little part of the hotel and the green island. Great staff, wonderful Alexandra, and the great mister Thomas. Lovely food, the beautiful beach and pool.
Super restaurant. You name it, Esperides got it.

Great Holiday

from Blasbery
We visited this hotel for our first trip to Skiathos, we felt really comfortable from the moment we arrived, had a very good room with wonderful seaview which you never tired of looking at. We found the hotel fabulous, breakfast and dinner was always very hot and lots of choice. The staff were fantastic very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The Hotel is fantastically situated right on a beautiful beach, and if you can pull yourself away from the relaxing way of the hotel and beach, there are plenty of places to visit on the Island, why not hire your own boat and visit other beaches on the island, we did and it was a really enjoyable day.

Our one and only complaint would be lack of sunbeds around the pool!!

We look forward to returning in the future and hope that the hotel stays exactly as it is (apart from lack of sunbeds!!)

Loved the resort

from Hohols
We love beach holidays with bustling towns nearby and have previously adored Santorini and Mykonos - this one came out in the top 3. The hotel is greek 4 star - ie it's a 3 star anywhere else. The service is ok but the food same-ish luke warm and served in a restaurant with very little ambiance - we ate out almost every night as the restaurants in town were fantastic and the atmosphere superb. Breakfast was good but the flies drove us nuts though.

The location is what makes it - right on the beach with the little boat heading into town for 2 euro each way from the jetty right outside - perfect. The taxi drivers are maniacs - they cost around 5-6 euros each way so the boat is a far more relaxing option.

If you do eat out you MUST try the Windmill - book online before leaving home (not for the disabled or those with mobility problems). It's the best retaurant I've eaten in in Greece by far and we go to somewhere different in Greece every year. The menu was exceptional, the service outstanding and the price reasonable - about 65 euros for 2 3 course meals and wine with spectacular views over the whole town - definitely the best table on the island!

We decided to go direct to Scopelos and Alonyssos (spelling??) and were glad we had. It's cheper if you go from the harbour rather than through Olympic. If you go to Alonyssos you must go to the old town (they put a bus on for you) as it's the prettiest town I think we've ever seen with really lovely retaurants and craft shops - well worth the visit.

All in all a fantastic holiday if you like beach life by day and nice restaurants at night.

Good hotel on a beautiful beach

from PeterboroughMary
Ended up at this hotel after La Piscine Art Hotel had overbooked and could not accommodate us (despite booking two rooms there back in Feb 06). Although the concrete front facade of the hotel looks a bit daunting, once inside it is fine, the staff are very friendly and the service is excellent.
The Espirides is a clean well kept hotel with good facilities and food, but the best feature here is the fabulous beach which is adjacent to the hotel. Rooms are comfortable (although the bathrooms are a bit pokey), have air con and a fridge and are clean.
For this type of hotel we felt the drink prices were very fair - they don't rip you off and in our experience this is unusual.
With two 16 yr olds in tow it was a bit of a pain (and added expense) to have to travel in to Skiathos Town every night (water taxi 2 euros each way each - last one back at 10:30 pm or 'ride of death' taxi back for 5.5 euros) , as there is a distinct lack of entertainment here, but for adults wanting a beach based, laid back relaxing chill out, this hotel is perfect.

Disabled friendly?

from GillygemsWales
We booked this hotel as it was described as disabled friendly on the Olympic Holidays website. It was - except the swimming pool and the beach - this meant that we could not use the boat to Skiathos town. Ramps need to be placed where the steps currently are. The staff were excellent - very friendly but not the majority of other guests who seemed to regard my 20 year old son who has cerebral palsy as a "care in the community" case who they didn't want on their doorstep. They avoided us and moved away if we were near them! G is a university student. We felt the majority of the older people to be very very cliquish.

The food was excellent - hot breakfast now being available - the scambled eggs were delicious and the range of dishes available at night astonishing - truly something for everyone. Beware, however, if you book a trip with Olympic - our boat trip was cancelled two days running - we were turned away from the pickup coach by the Pablo tours rep on the second day but Olympic refuse to believe this and would not give us a refund - told us to take it up in the UK - rep very elusivea nd broke appointments to discuss this - we reported the cancellation to the Olympic office immediately after being turned away on the 2nd occasion so are very annoyed at having to now deal with this in the UK. Better to catch the daily 10.45 Express Ferry to Glossa; bus to Skopoli; 2 hours there; bus back to Glossa and Flying Cat to Skiathos (which I did) - get tickets at Hellenic Seaways office oppositie Skiathos Harbour.
We did find the island strewn with rubbish - why don't telephone companies take theirempty spools away? We would not return to Skiathos and would rather return to Turkey then Greece. We are experienced holidaymakers.

Recommended by our daughter who was a rep. in Skiathos in 2000, this hotel is very fine to look at from one angle but from others looks like a cross between an army barracks and a multi-storey car park. Our room looked over the tiny swimming pool and had the added advantage of having a house martin's nest in the eaves, having a quiet drink early evening meant watching the birds doing a dambusters raid. Things left out to air had to be carefully placed to avoid bird poo.
Breakfast was pretty good, dinner very samey but loads of choice. Guests dress for dinner, not always very well.
It is the sort of hotel that visitors come back to year after year, even requesting the same rooms to be near their holiday friends. apparently all night card games are played.
Reception was not a bit interested when we put out luggage on the incorrect airport pile; we made the mistake of asking reception on which pile we should put it..........big mistake!
Skiathos is wonderful, we are returning to something more laid back.

19th - 26th May 2006 We were there too - Paul and Elaine

At last we finally went to Skiathos and we chose the best spot on the island - Achliades bay
Peace and quiet, but if you want life you can walk into Skiathos town in 4o minutes, a taxi is 5.5 euros - journey time 6 minutes, bus every 30 minutes - journey time 15 minutes or the chug chug boat off the jetty on the beach - 2 euros each way - 15 relaxing minutes and moors up in the old harbour

The runway is a little on the short side, but do not let it put you off

Hotel is very good, clean and well maintained. The breakfast was very good, a little disappointing if you like cooked breakfasts, but when on holiday you can do with fresh fruit, breads, cheeses and meats to soak up the alcohol from the night before
Dinner - very good there was always plenty to choose from and the waiters were quick to serve you with drinks (not too expensive)

Sunbeds - only 18 around the pool for around 180 rooms(do the sums!) is our only criticism, sunbeds on the beach 8 euros or buy mats for 2 euros

Fantastic holiday (should we not keep quiet about this place? it is such a lovely spot)

Hotel Esperides just gets better!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Esperides Hotel at Achladies is one of those hotels that really surprises you! Had such a great holiday there in 2005 decided to visit again in 2006 and we certainly weren't disappointed. In fact, the hotel was even better this year (if that's possible!) The hotel is literally built on the beach, so you can lie in bed listening to the waves on the shore, or sit on your balcony sipping a cool drink gazing at the beautiful blue sea! The exterior of the hotel has been completely redecorated, and everywhere looks fresh and clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and all speak excellent English. Your holiday starts the moment you arrive at the hotel, as porters carry your luggage into the hotel reception, where you are greeted by friendly, efficient reception staff, who allocate your room very quickly. The porter then escorts you to your room, taking your luggage on his trolley, and checking you are happy with your room before leaving. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with air conditioning and a handy fridge, hairdryer, TV and phone. Clean towels every day, rooms cleaned to a high standard. The food is served buffet style, but is so well laid out, it never gets too crowded when you're making your choice. You name it - they have it - from various choices of succulent seafood and fish, to every kind of meat imaginable, beautiful fresh salads, pasta, and wonderful greek feta cheeses, peppers, stuffed vine leaves (dolmades) and black and green olives. It's a gastronomic delight! The swimming pool is rather small but why sit by a pool when the beach and the beautiful sea is right there on your doorstep. The hotel has a beach bar alongside the pool, and there are also 3 tavernas just a few yards along the beach. The bus stops just outside the hotel so travelling is easy, however the boat taxi off Achladies beach is a much more enjoyable experience - only two euros per person per trip to Skiathos, (throughout the day and evening), and only 10-15 mins journey round the bay. No evening entertainment at the hotel but I would say that's a bonus! You can just relax and unwind, and let the time slowly drift by, or get the boat taxi into Skiathos if you want something more lively. The hotel is best suited for people with young children, honeymooners, and couples who want the ultimate relaxing holiday.

Great Hotel

from Quins
We stayed for a week in the Esperides and found very little to complain about. The staff are, without exception, exceedingly polite, helpful and cheerful. The bedroom was kept immaculately clean. The food was exceptional with a very good choice each day, although the desserts were a little bit samey. The bar staff in particular were very friendly and entertaining, doing their utmost to try and get us to speak a little Greek by the end of the week.

Our visit was in the very early season and we were obviously the first to use the room for a while as, although it was spotless, the blankets did smell slightly of mothballs for a day or so. There were swallows nesting above the balcony and they did make a bit of a mess - we couldn't leave beachtowels outside unless we wanted a nice guano pattern. The maid did clean the balcony thoroughly everyday though.

The hairdryer in the room is noisy but very powerful. There is a fridge in the room and you are advised to buy bottled water to drink. The loos are typically Greek and you have to use the adjacent (flip top) bin for the paper. The Hotel is generally very quiet although we did experience the inconsiderate holidaymakers who let their doors bang shut at all hours (God I hate that!). There is no entertainment in the evenings apart from that rare and wonderful thing - conversation and making friends. What a pleasure that was! For those who need some form of entertainment, there are plenty of Tavernas around and the water taxi provides an excellent service into Skiathos Town, where there is no shortage of nightlife.

Check in is a bit chaotic. There is only one receptionist and although she is very efficient, it does take time to check in, especially when you get obnoxious Brits trying to push in and confusing matters even more. The Hotel numbering system is a bit bizarre and it is best to wait for the porter to take the bags to your room. Best policy - be patient.

The lift (I think that there is only one) is exciting. It stops with an almighty "Clunk", which is a bit discorncerting until you get used to it.

The water taxi and buses are brilliant - thoroughly recommend using them! They put our transport system to shame. If you hire a car, get a 4x4 as the tracks up through the mountains are a bit rough (but well worth the explore). Driving is a doddle. We were advised to use the petrol stations in Skiathos town (there are 3 there) and not the one down near Koukounaries as he has a reputation for watering down the fuel. The hire company (Hertz) wanted the same fuel level (a quarter tank) on return. We filled up and only used half a tank over 4 days.

Overall, we had a brilliant holiday and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Great food...

from plymouth
One week stay (19-26 May) at the Esperides Hotel was wonderful. Very friendly reception staff and excellent food, buffet-style. As previous reviews suggest, the number of loungers around the pool is very limited but, what the heck, there's a fabulous beach in front of the hotel.

Relaxing and peaceful!

from Angharad-Wyn
Stayed here for the first time this year and enjoyed it very much. We are hoping to return next year.We shall go a little earlier in the month 'though as I believe it is even quieter then.Had paid extra for a sea view etc. and it was well worth it as we were right by the little beach and could listen to the waves lapping at the shore from the room. The sea taxi from the hotel jetty was excellent and cheap. It was also quite good at keeping to schedule. Skiathos Town is good for a wander and a little shopping for the usual holiday stuff! The local buses are also handy - bus stop outside hotel entrance. One main road across the island so go left one day ; right the next ! Banana Beach is worth a visit or two. We went on a boat trip to Scopulos and Alonyssius (spelling?) and enjoyed the day - dolphins leaping around the boat etc. Next time we hope to do the 'around the island trip.' DO NOT go to this hotel if you want evening entertainment ! We were pleased that there was none as we prefer peace and quiet rather than second rate entertainment anyway. There was always Skiathos Town and the sea taxi if you became desperate! My only complaint was that every night the dessert was exactly the same.If you like jelly every day then I suppose that was O.K.In fact , the food on the whole was O.K - but not fantastic. Many people had been there many times ! One couple were on their eighth visit. It is not a swinging hotel and there is no organised activity for children etc. We enjoy the peace and quiet. Thus , the return visit!
