Top Local Tips for Santorini

Steps, steps, steps everywhere! Not for the elderly unless they are in tip top shape. You must be able to endure the steps to get to the donkey ride in Oia and there are more steps on top after the donkey rides drop you off. Very exhausting, uneven steps and not much to hold on to. Seniors beware of this. Kamari Tour office did not tell us of this when we booked an all day excursion for the best of Santorini in a day that this was the only way to get to the city on top once we departed the boat ride. Streets are hazardous for walking in most parts, that is where you can take a car. Uneven pavement. Beware, I travelled with a senior citizen who is in great shape but worried for the most part.

Great Beaches We are travelers in our mid thirties and loved Pervolous Beach. It was a 30 min bus ride away and fabulous. The bus is the way to go...the taxis are too expensive when you can just bus it and walk.

Transport All buses leave from very close to this hotel. The most stunning views over the Caldera. A trip to the volcano and the warm springs is a must. Cable car down to the Old harbour is an awesome experience. Adorable donkeys with little bells walking the steps. Good swimming at Thirasia. Wonderful leather shop in Perissa near the bus station. So much to do! Wonderful shopping - plenty of jewelley shops and curios.
