Top Local Tips for Santorini
Location When staying in Santorini, it's best to stay near Fira and take a bus to beaches in Kamari or Oia. The beaches aren't really the main attraction in Santorini (although they're great). Fira and the gorgeous views are, and Hotel Ira is in great proximity to both!
Our favorite restaurants in Santorini We had an excellent meal at Cafe Naoussa in Fira. To find it from the cable cars to the Old Port, take a left from the cable car exit, then take the first right. Walk down to the next intersection. It's right across form a Chinese restaurant, and there's a jewelry store on the corner. Naoussa is up the stairs. There's only a view of the street, but the food is great. My husband had a beef stew with potatoes, and I had chicken on a bed of rice. We also had a great meal at the famous Nick's Taverna in Fira. The tzadziki was very fresh and the fish was fantastic. Also, we had a very nice snack in Oia at Cafe Skisa. We sat outside on the roof overlooking the caldera. I had choclate ice cream and my husband had a yummy baklava.
Try Vanilia Vanilia is a delightful, newish restaurant that will please most foodies. Garden setting, delicious food. From there, try Ambrosia (great views) in Oia or it's sister restaurant Ambrosia & Nectar. Owner is very hip.
