Top Local Tips for Santorini
Taxi! It was really comforting to reach Santorini amidst the busy crowds to come out of the small airport to have our taxi driver holding our name waiting for us while many others struggled for rides. In the same way when it was time to leave we had arranged through the hotel to have a taxi waiting for us because we had the early flight out. There was no hassle - arrange it with your hotel, you might pay a little bit more but the convenience is priceless. Also make sure your hoteliers sort out the baggage delivery to and from your hotel as the pathway is steep and even those with drag bags will have a real task on their hands.
Use Public Bus as much as Possible! The public bus is great - air conditioned and very comfortable. It is about 1.20 to 1.70 Euros to get to anywhere on the island, as opposed to the normal 10 euros charged by taxis. However, if you dont know any better you can end up paying 30 euros for the same destination. Santorini is infilitrated with toursists so be on the lookout for people constantly trying to rip you off. I am from New York City and dont think the people there are like this - at all! But Santorini is beautiful so it is worth the tirp - just be educated!
June and September This is our third time visiting Santorini. It is beautiful all year round but June and September are the best months to visit. Everything is calmer and you can enjoy the island more. The weather is perfect and the island is not so crowded.
