Although the rooms were OK the food was atrocious.It really spoilt our holiday as we paid for half board and ended up eating out for five nights!!!!

Top Local Tips for Santorini

Places to visit Definitely worthwhile going to Oia. It's not far at all by car, about 25 mins. We hired a jeep very cheaply and drove there. Despite quite rainy weather it was an absolutely beautiful place to wander around with spectacular views. Lots of nice cafes and restaurants although it was a very busy tourist resort. Popular for watching the sunset. We actually watched the sunset from the Santo Winery which was amazing.

Sunset Cruise Booked a sunset cruise through Thomson, but other local excursion operators run similar. Cruise on an old wooden boat to the volcano. Walk was about an hour in the mid-afternoon heat so would not recommend unless fit. Sturdy shoes/trainers are a must, DO NOT wear flip-flops. Wear old clothes and swimwear for the swim out to the sulphur springs as te sulphur can stain clothing. Buffet on board our ship was excellent complete with band. Dropped anchor near Oia to watch the sunset with champagne, was unrivalled!

Tour of the island Try to see as much of the island as you can - you are only a maximum of 40 mins from anywhere by road on the island so try and see as much of it as you can - one thing I can recommend is to get up early and see the sunrise - you won't see a better one in Kamari and you have the entire resort to yourself at 6.30am.
