Wedding at Lindos Memories

from rcroxford
Well what can I say, FANTASTIC!!!!
We have just got back from a 2 week holiday at Lindos Memories, where we held our wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast and then continued our Honey Moon Here. Fantastic Hotel and staff, they couldn't have done enough for us.
Karen from Lindos Weddings orgnaised the day for us, which was just amazing. We had the best day ever.
Our bedroom at the hotel was lovely, the whole hotel is always very clean and very well looked after.
The service from all the staff was just great!!
I could not recoemend this hotel enough.
I can't wait for a return visit.

Thanks again Lindos Memories.

Lindos Memories is Worth a Visit

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you want a quiet and relaxing holiday, away from hoards of tourists fighting for spot around the pool or on the beach, Lindos Memories is a great choice. We never had a problem getting a lounger and umbrella any time of the day. If you like the hussle and bussle of a busy night scene on your doorstep, then go to Falaraki or Pefkos, not here!

Our room was a little on the small side, but it was very clean. We did not go on holiday to stay indoors though, so it was fine for our needs. Our only gripe was the notice stating the minibar fridge was not be used to store our own drinks. After a couple of days however, we had made friends with all of the staff, and we had no problems doing so!

The staff were all really friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay at the hotel a very pleasant one. The Maitre'd at the restaurant was a bit grumpy tho, so steer clear of him! Making an effort to learn a few Greek words also went a long way.

We went half board, but got bored very quickly of the same format of evening meal everyday, so we ate out a few nights. The greek night on a thursday was a welcome change though, and comes highly recommended. Wine was too expensive. The breakfast looked great, but some of the food was left out for the flies to help themselves, and other stuff sat on hotplates for too long, so we steered clear of everything but the freshly made crepes. Lunch at the taverna was very expensive. 8.50 euros for a small greek salad and 14 euros for souvlaki (shish kabab). You can trade one dinner for a lunch using a voucher from reception, but this is not worth it as dinner per head is 25euros and the lunch is 25euros for 2. (not even enough for 2 souvlaki's!)

Don't let the food put you off the hotel though. the evening meals were very nice, and there is nothing stopping you from exploring the island and its fantastic food. There is also a lot to see on the island, so hire a car if you can. We recommend not hiring from the hotel however, as it was very expensive. Our hire for 4 days with Marathon Hire cost less than 2 days with the hotel rentacar rep, and they delivered/ collected from the hotel. Worthwhile places to visit include Presonissi, the southern most tip of the island, the 7 springs, where you can have a great lunch (and sample the spring water!), and the wine region in the north west; it's breathtaking! Best beaches for us were Lindos (sandy but crowded) and Tsambiko beach.

We ended up getting engaged on our holiday, so we won't forget it in a hurry. Overall, we would recommed the hotel.

Fantastic location for couples!

My husband and I enjoyed a late June vacation at this hotel. This is a good time for travelling in Greece (the peak season can be awfull), better prices and no crowds. We had a side seaview suite with separate living room and a large corner balcony, which offered us shade when needed! We just asked for a "deluxe room" (6 euros more than standard double) and were nicely surprised with the roomy and luxurius suite.
When we arrived, our room wasn't ready and they offered us another room just for shower or relax. Well, it was really small and without any good view (ground floor) and I didn't like it. Ask for a "deluxe", or a maisonette if you can afford it (much more expensive). This is a 5* hotel, with 5* location and swimming pool and breakfast (don't believe the bad reviews on this), maybe with 4* service sometimes, but it's not so bad! I complained about not replacing the toiletries and the cleaning lady brought me some. It wasn't her fault, it's the hotel's policy. The room was spotlesly cleaned every day, I have to thank the nice cleaning lady. I asked her to do it early in the morning and she did it for our entire stay!
Breakfast is VERY good and of a huge variety. I had the freshest and best applepie, the best cheese omelete, there were always pancakes, crepes, different cakes, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits&vegetables, even smoked mackerel, not to mention other usual breakfast food. On Sundays they offer champagne with breakfast. As for the lack of fresh orange juice, well having fresh juices would be a plus, but I can say that in summer we don't have fresh oranges in Greece. We have plenty of good Greek oranges in winter! Summer is not their season. Maybe the hotel didn't want to use tasteless imported oranges for the juice. I live in Greece and I know better. We don't buy oranges in summer, we have other seasonal fruits!
The beach is secluded, with the nicest colours all over Rhodes and with no building around! As for locals visiting... I don't know why it bothers some people! By law, THERE ARE NO PRIVATE BEACHES in Greece! Of course some hotels put fences, but it's not allowed! "Lindos Memories" respected that, respected the area and I'm happy about it! I don't agree with non-hotel guests occupying the hotel's beach umbrellas&chairs. The hotel staff should take care of that. But people can surely use the beach, laying on their towels etc.
Lindos is a very beautiful town (the castle is gorgeous). Try to avoid the tourist traps, especially at restaurants. The best restaurant in town is "Mavrikos". It used to be expensive but it has good prices now, and the food is fresh and honest, something I can't say for other restaurants (where almost everything was frozen, even chicken!) Try white Rhodian wine (Athiri variety, dry), it's very good even the non expensive bottles. Some restaurants avoid having them, trying to sell more expensive wines...
A stay at the "Lindos Memories" can be very pleasant, if you choose your room and have a motorcycle or a car for getting around. For us, it was the best choice, and we carefully checked the other good hotels of the area.
The out of town beautiful location was the biggest plus! The view from the -many many- windows of our suite was sooo good! The garden is new and has to grow more, but lovely! Especially the ibiscus flowers...

Nice relaxing Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Returned this last week after a 2 week stay with my husband. We do not agree fully with comments on previous reviews. We both thought this hotel was lovely. The staff were a credit , always polite and helpful. We booked through Argo holidays - in their brochure it gave room desc as twin beds but double bed available on request. We e mailed prior to going and on our arrival found we had a king sized bed in our room. The room was adequately sized for 2 and very clean, it had a side sea view as stated in the brochure. It was cleaned every day and towels replaced daily also .. very impressive.
We were impressed with the quantity and quality of choice for breakfast - only had an evening meal once - mixed feelings about this - my husband enjoyed his but I did not make a good choice. We were b&b so ate out for the rest of the holiday. We had some pleasant meals out in Lindos and Pefkos.
The pool was very nice and a decent size for the hotel - good quality sun beds/parasols and always plenty available. The poolside Taverna staff were excellent and provided lovely food. The beach area is small and is visited by locals - we did not find this a problem.
The only draw back we found was its location - a bit remote and it was not safe to walk anywhere due to no paths and driving standards, but taxis were readily available.
We hired a car via our tour op but the car hire desk in the hotel was a comparable price. If you hire a car a visit to Plimiri beach not far from Prassonisi as you head south is a must. The restaurant [shack] serves lovely fresh fish ... The beach is lovely and there is a shower and 1 changing cabin.
Rhodes old town,Lindos and Pefkos are a bit commercialised - aimed obviously at us tourists - we did think it a shame that everyone speaks English. Overall we had a lovely holiday and other guests we spoke to have stayed at this hotel several times.

More like 3*

My wife and I have just returned from possibly one of the worst holidays ever. We stayed (obviously) at the Lindos Memories and the only memory will be a bad one!
The Hotel is very attractive and looked promising; the pool is small but nice and the poolside loungers are really comfortable with towels provided.
The room had a sea view if you were a Giraffe! and directly outside were electricity pylons. The room was quite nice although two twins do not make a double!
The bathroom was modern and well equiped but far too small. The air-con was good but the mini bar could not be used to cool our own drinks without a charge from the hotel at their prices (1.80 euros for a small water) we just emptied it before they came and checked and put it all back when they left!
The staff in the Lyndia Taverna were very nice (Chrissa) and the food was tasty which makes me believe its a Franchise or similar and not run by the hotel as their food was dire. We noticed that previous trip advisors raved about the breakfast, let me assure you its probably the worst buffet style I have ever had - the only thing that covered the jams/hams/breads/cakes e.t.c were the flies! Why they won't serve fresh orange is a mystery, we bought a litre from a supermarket and it cost 80 cents - bizarre.
The restaurant staff are morose, surly and ineffectual and to be quite honest shouldn't bother turning up.
Experience tells me that if an hotel cannot get breakfast right then dont bother with dinner and this proved to be true again - dreadfull.
The beach was small and rocky and in the brochure it said private; not true the locals swarm there at the weekend and use the hotels sunbeds.
The location is somewhat detached from Lindos and requires a taxi or car hire - the taxi was 7 euros to Lindos and 5 back. There is nothing else around and nothing to do.
Lindos itself is worth a quick walk around but it is so incredibly commercialised you may well think you are in Blackpool (sorry Blackpool).
The hotel is worthy of a 3* rating and the staff need to have a little bit more respect for the travellers that keep their country from having a third world status. My review may seem a little extreme but I assure you it is correct, Rhodes in general was extremely expensive, unkempt, dirty and offers little for the discering traveller. Where possible we only stay in 5* hotels and whoever is responsible for their 5* rating doesn't know their head from other parts of their anatomy!
The best advice I could give is don't go! On a positive note - the weather was great!

Honeymoon in Lindos

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Lindos Memories -- from June 5th through June 14th. Although there were certain drawbacks, overall we absolutely loved the hotel.

The room was not large but we would not consider it small by any means. This was not a major issue anyway as we hardly spent much time in it. The grounds of the hotel are immaculate. The views of the cliffs and the bay are spectacular and the staff was top notch.

I read an earlier review about the 24-hour front desk being unmanned -- we never experienced this. We checked out at 4:45am on a Wednesday (in order to make our early flight) and the front desk was helpful in expediting our check-out even that early in the morning.

The hotel was a few kilometers from Lindos. We tried three different methods of getting to town -- a cab, walking and renting a car. We quickly tired of waiting for a cab, and the walk was interesting the first three times but then became tedious. The best bet is to rent a car from the rental desk in the hotel. It gives you the most freedom and is not overly expensive.

We both are looking forward to going back in the not-to-distant future!

PROS
* Excellent staff
* Amazing location -- close to Lindos but not overcrowded
* Nice private beach for snorkeling & swimming
* Car rental service desk in lobby

CONS
* The evening meals were atrocious. But it is better to eat in Lindos anyway.
* Cleaning of rooms was down sporadically.
* The local convenience shop at the hotel is way overpriced.

Pros And Cons

from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I spent 2 fabulous weeks in Rhodes durung June.
We stayed at The Lindos Memories,
We booked with Thomas Cook Select.

PROS:

Fantastic location

Wonderful pool area

Lovely staff

Decent breakfasts (but fresh orange juice cost extra if you wanted it)

Good ambience

Nice Greek Evenings once a week with buffet and Greek entertainment

Only 7 euro taxi ride into Lindos Village (fab selection of Restaurants including The Lindian Indian and a brilliant Italian for when you want a change from Greek food)

CONS;

Nobody on 24 hour Reception when we first arrived in the middle of the night.
Quite scarey!

Several people experienced overbooking and had to stay elsewhere for at least their first night.

Expensive

Rather small rooms.
Ours had no bath to our surprise, only a shower.

Ground floor rooms on one side of the Hotel enclosed by railings.
Rather claustrophobic

Many people asked to change room.

Very few rooms with full sea view, despite Hotel being right on the beach.

Awful Evening Meals, with limited, repetative choices on menu,
Wine over-priced.

Lots of noisy children staying at The Hotel during our 2 week stay.
This came as a shock to us after reading numerous reviews stating the Hotel was not really suitable for children,
However, there is a small childrens play area/pool.

Laundry;
My dress was laundered and when it was returned had shrunk by about 8 inches.
When I challenged this I was told the care lable was adhered to and I could not prove what length the dress was originally!
The Hotel were only prepared to reimburse the cost of the Laundry bill, despite ruining my dress.
I will be persuing this matter now I am back home, but would not recommend using this service.
I have NEVER experienced this sort of problem at any other Hotel I've stayed at, and I stay at dozens.

Beautiful

Spent two glorious weeks at The Lindos Memories for a wonderful Honeymoon and can't help feeling somewhat surprised regarding previous comments, I had read a couple before heading out there and to be honest I was quite worried but myself and my husband were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel and grounds are spectacular (especially in the evenings). The room was not huge but still in pristine condition cleaned every day, towels changed on a daily basis also, which I have never experienced on previous trips to any of the Greek Islands. The beach is lovely bearing in mind that beyond the sunbeds to each side the goats, sheep and cows have free range (fair enough really as they have been there a lot longer than us tourists!) just keep in the area and it is fine. The pool is fantastic. The breakfasts are to die for amazing really you can stand there for ages deciding what to have, too much really but never heard anyone complaining! Evening meals are ok had a lovely meal first evening but a not so good one another time, we were only B&B so we didn't mind. The staff always say hello and are always polite but do seem somewhat stressed but after talking to a member of staff I think I would be working 6 months without a day off! Walking into Lindos in the day I believe is fine only a 20 min walk you get to the top of the hill to a place called Lindos Reception carry on down the slope and you are there, not too bad and I'm not the fittest of poeple. I definitely would suggest a taxi in the evening though, 7 euro when called from the hotel there and 5 back, not too bad, but I will say the taxi drivers are a bit scary eat your heart out Michael Schumacher! The only thing I can say that would probably be a slight downfall was the fact that we weren't expecting so many children to be there (after reading previous reports "nothing for them to do etc") the second week there were quite a lot not a huge issue but couldn't relax around the pool as first expected. I apologise for the "essay"but felt that the hotel hadn't been given full justice (in my opinion). All in all the hotel, Lindos and Rhodes itself was superb I want to go back now! P.s Cath and Kevin if you read this, again CONGRATS!!!!Sarah & Richard

Just a little bit pretentious sometimes

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is ideal for couples in love who want to go there and not care too much about the rest of the world. I went there with my wife and three kids aged 7, 4 and 1. We are Greeks, so we do not plan and we paid dearly. It was early in the season and there were a lot of empty rooms. So seeing us five, I have to admit that not only did they give us one of their largest suites at a bargain price (which still was a painful price for us), but also, when we discovered that our view was not the sea, but the surrounding barren hills of rock, they offered to give us their sea view suite. I did not take it, simply not to be perceived as too demanding. The side looking suite was luxurious and modern and I have no complains, save that it is not suitable for small children, given that it is a two stories maisonette with stairs. The lack of a sea view from our suite turned out to be no big deal, given that the hotel is at sea level and rooms with a sea view must also have just a little bit of noise from the pool taverna and bar. The hotel is neither big nor small, it is of a humane scale so to speak. The gardens were well designed and maintained. The personnel were very polite and very friendly, but some, not all, had this very familiar to us Greeks air of rural people who have suddenly climbed up the social ladder and are a bit pretentious. The taverna by the pool had basic yet great food for lunch and the most friently service. The dinner was not my taste. It was well above average, but too expensive and, while it was trying to be on the French side, it was still in search of a personality. But I am not an expert. I can definitely say that we felt awkward with the kids at dinner, given that noone else was so noisy as we were there. The breakfast was indeed great. The sea has a beautiful colour in all Lindos area. I think the most important information about this hotel is the location and surrounding landscape. It is Lindos, which is already too far away from Rhodes town and still it is not really Lindos, you cannot comfortably walk to Lindos. In the morning hours, you would need to tolerate the scorching sun, in the evening it must be too dark, and there is nothing between Lindos and the hotel. As far as the surrounding landscape, it is true that it is where the movie The Guns of Navarone was filmed so you must be prepared to see a barren dry rocky landscape, and this hotel is like in the middle of nowhere. It must be very hot in the pick of the summer. The prevailing cool breeze in the summer in Rhodes is nortwesterly. This hotel is facing southeasterly. So it is perhaps the hottest (temperature wise) and at the same time the quietest place in Rhodes. I enjoyed my short stay there and have not regretted it, but it is not good value for money for families with kids.

A little gem.

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hotel is very attractive and peaceful. it would have been nice to have had somewhere to walk to but it is too far away from Lindos for a stroll. A week suited us fine as there really is nothing to do apart from lounging by the pool, which is by the way simply beautiful with a fantastic pool bar/cafe serving great food. The evening meal was hit and miss and sometimes the staff seemed under pressure although they remained friendly and professional at all times. If a lazy poolside break is what you want then go for it. Everything is very clean and the grounds immaculate.

Top Local Tips for Rhodes

Taxi You must, if staying outside Lindos visit it in the evening to see it all lit up, it's beautiful and the taxi drivers have some great stories to tell you on the journey.

Arhontiko Restaurant I would recommend the Restaurant Arhontiko in Lindos for a high-quality meal in a quaint setting. You will pay a few Euros more here but it is worth it if you are looking for a quiet setting with a nice ambience and very good food. We also ate at the popular Kalypso (on the Lonely Planet circuit) but found it to be overrated.

very nice to see but....... skip it and go to samos
