from A TripAdvisor MemberLoved the Hilton Rhodes Resort
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe second day of our stay, the extremely helpful client relations department offered us a room on the 5th floor and there was a big difference; the room was recently renovated, great view to Aegean sea, and calm. Breakfast was fantastic at the Castellania restaurant. The Cafe de Paris restaurant was rather boring; only serves three main dishes (beaf/chicken/salmon) with the cafe de Paris sauce. The Pergola restaurant by the pool offers a better alternative with a lot more variety and creativity.
The pool was lovely. The beach was a bit less friendly; choppy waters and stones. But we rented a car and drove to some great beaches on the eastern part of the island.
The hotel staff (incl. the animation team) were fantastic!!! Thank you all.
I would definitely consider going back to the hotel and would highly recommend it, especially to families. Worth every cent we paid.
Idyllic
from A TripAdvisor MemberKids club ok but personally child age would need to be 4+ to enjoy activities. Our children enjoyed water soccer, water volley ball, mask making, stone collecting and decorating (from beach - attached to hotel), painting etc. Evening entertainment great first week, but repeats weekly so advise planning ahead outwith hotel complex.
Great for families with children
from Newport1234We enjoyed the dining/entertainment as well at the Pergola restaurant... The Beaters band (like the Beatles), disco 70's and the animation team show "Grease". The kids also enjoyed the large pool area, music, little shops near the pool, game room and the nightly entertainment.
I gave the hotel 4 stars since most websites claim this is a 5 star hotel as I was expecting. There aren't any robes in the rooms, hair conditioner or nightly turn down service. Room decorations are sparse and the hotel itself is very industrial looking. After a day there, you appreciate the gardens and what the hotel has to offer you...alot. The beach is also nice with comfortable lounge chairs and umbrellas free for guests. The 2nd pool looked very elegant and quiet...no kids there. The staff was always friendly too! For a day trip don't miss the Old Town, Lindos or Petaloudes (Butterfly Valley).
A good value

from A TripAdvisor MemberThis hotel is a mixed bag. It is clean, has a nice pool, a good breakfast, and a very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are large with good size balconies. However, it is an older hotel that is showing its age and has had better days. It seemed to be on a"package holiday" circuit that was popular with elderly German and English holiday couples. It was not kid friendly. (I fail to understand people who put their recliners six inches from the pool then look upset if a few drops of water are splashed on them!)
The hotel has good access to the beach but the beaches on the North West side of the island (near the hotel) are not nice (relatively small mixed rock/sand beach, road between hotel and beach with tunnel beneath road to access beach).
This hotel is great if you wish to lay around the pool and get a tan. However, if you want to get to Rhodes (the city) you need to take a taxi. If you want to go to the beach or go snorkeling it is not a good place. Again, it is a very decent hotel but make sure you understand the downsides.
Not a 5* by any stretch but not bad.
from A TripAdvisor MemberArrival : We arrived at 4am for a two week stay. Having requested a sea-view we were immediately disappointed with our room - last room on the floor, sea obscured by trees and the side of a mountain ! Next morning moved a couple of rooms up the corridor to get a great view. However we were not the only ones to complain - as we were changing rooms we heard two other couples (who had been on the same flight) changing theirs aswell. In fact everytime I've been near reception there have been people complaining about the rooms. Rooms with a "mountain view" literally face into a mountain with no view whatsoever. Make sure you ask for an odd numbered room and low e.g. 801 to ensure you face the sea and are not stuck at the end of the hotel.
Room : Not a 5 star room. Needs updating (stains on carpet and curtains). Minibar with wildly expensive drinks (comparative to any other point of purchase outside the hotel). Good sized bed, small balcony, average furniture, average bathroom (leaks and some rusting). Good maid service, fresh bathtowels each day. In terms of decor and furnishings I would rate it as a good 3* not a 4* and certainly not a 5* (and I've stayed in a good few). Good TV with wide range of channels (BBC Prime, RTE, Rai Uno etc).
Halfboard food : Breakfast : good range for different tastes. Free OJ and champagne (if you're an early morning drinker). Dinner : good to start and then lack of variety tires quickly. Strange mix some evenings - for instance crispy wontons served but no other similar foods. Expensive drinks.
Waiters polite but too eager to take your plate aware even if you haven't finished or your partner hasnt ! A la carte restaurants meant to be very good (award winning).
Drinks : generally throughout the hotel drinks were disgracefully expensive with a markup between 6 and 10 times supermarket prices. To be expected I suppose but I dont expect to be paying UK hotel prices in Greece.
Animation : average. Sports few a far between (some average pool games) and animation team had no real interest in motivating or even keeping the scores accurately ! Evening entertainment abysmal but who needs that anyway ?! Get out and explore !
Facilities : not happy to discover charges for tennis and squash courses. Reasonable gym and a few (expensive - again) onsite shops.
Overall : good hotel if you get a good room (and keep demanding if you don't), reasonable food, good location for Rhodes Town, expensive drinks, poor animation. More a good 4* than a 5* by UK standards. Overall mark : 13/20.

Top Local Tips for Rhodes
Handy supermarkets Buy water and drinks from the supermarkets just next to the hotel and keep them in your fridge. Order water and ice once from room service and get the ice bucket topped up from the bar!
Taxis Reception order taxis and they are never more than a few minutes, only Euro 6 into rhodes town
Rhodes Town Casino/Gambling Don't expect to gamble and just walk into the island's main casino in Rhodes town. My husband and I decided to go there one night and were rejected practically as soon as we entered. You cannot wear shorts or sandals at the casino, must show passports and other paperwork, and I believe pay a fee, kind of hefty from what I remember, just to go inside!!
