Ours was sort of a last minute deal, and the website looked pretty decent. We were going on a clubbing holiday so we thought the rooms didn't really need to be that great. We arrived, and we realised why the rooms looked so good even though the price was low. They'd taken pictures of another hotel...
The guy on the reception didn't even look at us when we came in. He just handed over the room key, without informing us that the keyring (that was broken) was the key for the electricity. He also failed to mention that the aircon would be 200 euros for the week...
In the room, there were several large holes in the walls, leading to exposed wires. The bathroom window had a sizeable hole in it, and the telephone was disconnected. By way of scissors... Everything was very dirty, and the sheets were stained suspciously (if you know what I mean). These sheets failed to be cleaned for the rest of the week! As did any other part of our room.
As if this wasn't enough, the reception man regularly sent up the town sheriff (no seriously) to check on us, as we were the only teenagers staying the the hotel.
It is very disconcerting to have balding middle aged people bursting into your room at all hours of the night and day.
Our curfew was enforced by the sheriff and his merry men. One night, after we came in in the wee hours he told us not come back til morning as we would make to much noise. In effect, we had to sleep on sun loungers on the beach.
In short: It was bloody terrible. Rhodes Town however, lovely place with good nightlife. Just apparently an over eager sheriff's department.
Old fashioned, but adequate

Booked as a last minute deal. Cost was very reasonable, was quite cheap but worth it. Hotel Helena was situated in an ideal location, near to many bars and restaurants and also the beach. Bar street was close but not close enough to be noisy. A 10 minute walk to Rhodes old town, which is a must-see. The hotel was pretty dated, however, in our room there were signs of refurbishment, although the bathroom had not been touched and we had a hole in the cladding on the ceiling. This caused no problems at all though. Balcony was very narrow, only room for two to sit out, but it was twin room. Surprisingly no bugs,eg cockroaches, were seen in the hotel.
Our room was swept and mopped daily, sheets were refolded daily and towels were changed when dirty/wet. Breakfast was included, but it wasn't much to write home about. It was said to be continental breakfast, but bread tended to be stale. but not inedible. there was a choice of jams, egg, ham, cheese, butter, yogurt and cereal with milk. teas, coffee and diluted juice were available. The eating area for breafast could do with some improvements, not dirty or untidy, just dull and drab. Pool area was clean and althought he pool was small, it was adequate as never many in it at one time. There had been a dirty mark around the water level of the pool, but when a family mentioned it to the rep, it was then cleaned up. Cleaning staff were friendly although their english was limited. The owners were also friendly to guests, however the woman tended to shout at her staff rather a lot in front of guests, which we found amusing but inappropriate.
The reception area was cleaned daily, there was a bar/restaurant, which wasn't used often. The rescption area is also where the safety deposit boxes were, these cost approximately 20euros per week. Air conditioning in the room cost 50euros per week. Mosquitoes are a bit of a pest on this island, so recommended to take repellent.
Bar Street was more lively than the surrounding areas, and had one club at the bottom of it. Drinks were very reasonably priced and there was often buy on get one free on drinks, especially cocktails, and most bars included free shots.
Other bars and restaurants aroun=d the area were also pretty cheap, however the cost tended to be more in the old town.
The beach was shingle mainly, with areas having larger pebbles, sunbeds and parasols were available for hire. The beach at the west side of Rhodes Town had large waves and quite powerful wind, which was nice in the heat. The East Side, nearer the large casino, was much calmer and there was a diving platform.
There is a new part to Rhodes Town with more designer shops rather than the souvenir, tourist and art shops found elsewhere.
We found the Greek people very friendly, quite a few asked for you to go to their restaurant, but they weren't forceful.
Had a very enjoyable holiday. Would definitely return!
Dont go there!

We went to stay at the Helena Hotel on the 4th July 2007! Our first impression of the hotel was that is was very basic but that's all u needed really! The rooms were very very small! After 2 or 3 nites the room started to grow on us and we started to relax abit more! On our 4th nite we went and had a few drinks in bar street which was just down the road from us....wen we arrived back to the hotel we was a bit partner went to use the loo and then I went to use the loo and then all of a sudden water started gushing out of the toilet. I looked down on the floor and there was part of the loo on the floor so my partner ran down the stairs to get the man from reception, he came up and turned the water off then left the room. The next day we went down the stairs to see what was happening with our water and we had a 100 euro bill...we asked why it was so high and they started shouting at us saying that we had smashed a perfume bottle against the toilet and broke it.....(why wud we smash a bottle against the loo?) we was told we had to pay it or wud not be able to be changed to anuva room with a workin toilet till we did! So we paid 100 euros to get our room changed and they put us in an even smaller room than we had before! we wasn't happy at all....a few days later we discovered that they hadn't brought a new toilet they had just fixed it with sum sort of glue! So we had paid 100 euro for a tube of glue! The owners were ok to start off with but then were very rude afta the loo thing! The breakfasts were awful we did not eat 1 it was hard bread with ham and cheese! It was vile! The restaurant was very quiet, saw maybe 1 or 2 people eating in there the whole two weeks we were there! The pool wasn't very nice as its salt water and looked all green! the location of the hotel was wicked a 3 min walk to the beach, a 2 min walk from the nite life and bout a 15 min walk from the old town which was beautiful! We spent most nights up there! Over all the holiday was ok....Rhodes itself was luvly! I would advise this hotel to any1!and if u do decide to go if ur in room 505 just check to loo when u get there so they cant rip u off 2!
Great Service & Staff

excellent hotel, very small and really friendly have been going for years and have been waiting to write a review for this hotel. Although its small, the pool is very safe, the staff wonderful and we go back at least once a year.
