5* hotel with inferior accomodation

Pro's - panoramic views, quality of food, 4 excellent swimming pools
Con's - problem with 2nd floor air-conditioning -smells are dreadful. Double rooms are very average and not of a 5* standard
Advice - restaurant is on 10th floor so hotel is not for anyone who has a phobia of lifts. Request accomodtion on high floor - the views are spectacular and are far enough away from the smell of drains.

If you don't like heights, then this hotel is not for you. It's built into a huge mountain and if if you get a 'forest view' then it can be a sheer drop from the small balcony. The restaurant is on the 10th floor and the kids pool and adult pool on the 11th floor. There are some lovely pools on the ground floor outside the hotel. Rooms and balcony's are very small and the bungalow was a disappointment because it only has one room, with a low wall dividing the twin beds from the sofa bed. Beds and pillows are rock hard. A great variety of food, but dinner is generally ruined by the chef's over indulgence on sauces! The desserts are delicous though. Lunchtime food at the pool bar is not very nice. Hamburgers are not cooked properly and salads are tasteless especially the tomatoes. Drinks are very expensive. 3.40 euros for a can of coke. Very little day or evening entertainment. The Hilton Hotel, a block away has great entertainment. Rhodes town is about an hours walk away, 10 minutes by bus. Taxi is 7 euros.
The road at the bottom of the drive of the hotel is a deathtrap. It's the main road into Rhodes. It's a good hotel but I would only rate it 4 star+, compared to other 5 stars we have stayed in.

excellent hotel although drinks were very pricey. Staff very friendly and helpful.

room excellent although we did get an upgrade due to the one we requested not being available.

Fantastic Honeymoon

from Joo2610
We stayed at the Rodian Amathus for our Honeymoon in September. We were greeted with a basket of fruit, bottle of champagne and a half bottle of wine in our room when we arrived which was a good start! We were on the 8th floor with a balcony and sea view. The room itself was lovely and the bed was huge!

The hotel has 3 outdoor pools (and one indoor in the Spa). We spent most of our time by the 11th floor pool which did not get over-crowded, had plenty of sunbeds and parasols and towels were provided by the hotel. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was calm, peaceful and very restful!

The service at the hotel was impeccable. The staff in the restaurant both in the morning and the evening were so polite and we never had to wait to be seated (unless you wanted to wait for a seat on the balconies). The maid service was brilliant, the rooms were made up every day and they came back at night to turn the beds down and leave chocolates on the pillows! We booked half board and the choice of food both at breakfast and in the evening was fantastic (drinks are expensive though so it's best to go out and sample the local bars in the evening). If you wanted to eat out at night you could exchange your evening meal for lunch at one of the two restaurants at the hotel instead which we did on a few occasions.

The beach is reached via a tunnel from the hotel but is pebbly so not really to be recommended if you have small children or are after a "beach holiday". The wind is quite strong on this side of the island but is perfect for the watersports that are on offer along the beach.

Ixia itself is relatively quiet but there are some lovely bars and restaurants along from the hotel – The Coconut Club is to be recommended, staff are very friendly and the food is lovely! Must visits are Rhodes Town and Lindos (which we did via boat which was lovely!).

We would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in going back again!

A lovely holiday

I have just returned from the hotel , we booked a late deal (I booked it Thursday and we travelled Saturday )and didnt know where we were going to,we ended up at the Rhodian Amathus Hotel. The food was very, very good, the staff wonderful,we really enjoyed our stay. A basket of fruit and a half bottle of wine was provided to welcome us to the Hotel. It was my husband's birthday whilest we staying there and he was given a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

One of the downsides was the pebbley beach and the wind on the beach. The sea was quite fierce at times and "knocked one off the feet", I lost my sunglasses as I was buffeted by the waves and the stones were very uncomfortable to stand on, shoes were needed. The drinks in the hotel were very expensive too.

I also thought tea making facilities would have been nice in the rooms, and also tooth picks at the tables, and shower facilities when having a late flight as we had(2.20 a.m )Overall a very good holiday.

Good Hotel

I don't want to repeat the points already mentioned as I agree with the previous reviews. I do have a few additional comments however;

My partner and I stayed at this hotel in Aug 2005. We had a bad start to our holiday due to a flight delay of two days so we arrived at the hotel at night, somewhat unexpectedly. The first room we were given was on the 9th floor and of a low standard. There was a strong smell of sewerage in the room and some areas of the bathroom were in need of basic cleaning. Although we complained immediately, we were not given another room until the next day. Incidentally, on checkout, we overheard a family making the same complaint about another room on the 9th floor.

Things were much better after we were moved to another room on the 3rd floor. Again, I have to agree with the reviews below, good food, great staff. I used one of the many windsurfing rental stores very near the hotel beach front. (The spot is a well know windsurfing area so be prepared for evening breezes). The hotel itself is fairly well sheltered but the beachfront did get quite windy.

I would recommend this hotel but caution that it is not 5 star.

Excellent Hotel

We stayed at the Rodian Amathus hotel for our honeymoon July - Aug 2005. We only booked to go there 2 days before and we emailed the hotel to say we were on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to one of the Bungalows on the 11th floor. The bungalow was very spacious and had all the facilities you would expect for a five star hotel. Maid service every day with an additional check in the evenings if required.

The food was also excellent, a good choice of food greeted us every morning and evening and it was a good balance for both vegetarians and non vegetarians.

The hotel has 3 pools, plenty of sunbeds and entertainment most nights. The hotel is situated 5 mins from the main shops and restaurants, it also has its own beach area and sunbeds for hotel guests. Beach towels are provided fresh every day.

An all round excellent hotel which we would definitely return to.

10/10 Great All-round hotel for an Enjoyable Holiday

from lauraza
We stayed at he Rodian Amathus with Thomson, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday. We were greeted in the room by fresh fruit and wine which made a very nice touch. We stayed half-board, and found both the breakfast and evening meals very enjoyable. There was always a vegetarian option available on the, and if there was nothing on the menu you liked you could just choose from the buffet. The waiter/waitress service was impeccable, they really do look after you. The hotel was very calm and quiet, which was particularly enjoyable by the pool, compared to some hotels we have stayed at during the past. No noisy lager louts, and not too many children.

The rooms were of a good standard not English 5 star, but we were not expecting that, and could not fault anything in the room except for the fact our curtains did not close fully which we found quite strange!

The bathroom was a little on the small side, and no bath just a shower but this was fine.

Do not miss the Spa, at the front of the hotel, we always went for a dip in here and were always the only ones in there! It was very peaceful.

As for nightlife, nothing to 'in your face' it is there if you want it, mainly a selection of bars, not really any nightclubs. Perfect if you just fancy a wander around at night with a change from the hotel surroundings.

The beach was a pebble beach reached by an underground tunnel from the hotel so you don't have to cross the road. It is ok, nice and breezy if it gets too hot by the hotel pool.

Local highlights include Lindos and Rhodes Town, not to be missed.

Good hotel, we would go back again!

Not having been to Rhodes before, we decided to play safe and book 5 star. The Rodian Amathus was a very good hotel generally, although we did have a couple of minor gripes. We had a room on the 4th floor (sea view) which was a very good size, and included a decent mini lounge area. However, although there was an en-suite, there was no bath, only a shower cubicle. This in it's self was no problem as we always shower anyway in preference to a bath, but the size of the shower cubicle was a touch on the small size, not suitable if you were, shall we say, of generous proportions. That said, this hotel really grew on us at the week went on, it was very peaceful and relaxing which is just what we were looking for. There was a small number of children, but nothing to bother you greatly. The food was fine, you can always say that you've had better, but on balance, we had no complaints. The restaurant staff at breakfast or dinner were always polite and helpful.
We booked half board, but were able to exchange the evening meal for lunch up at the 11th floor Pool Deck restaurant, which we did on a couple of ocassions. You just have to ask for the voucher at hotel reception. The voucher is valued at 20 Euros for a couple, thus if lunch is more than that, you just pay the extra. Drinks at the bar were a bit expensive (as expected), my wife drinks Malibu and pineapple, and for this they charge 7.5 Euros, but "happy hour" between 6-7pm in the 11th floor bar helps (30% discount). Other than that, there are plenty of local bars just a walk away. Hotel entertainment was a bit limited on the first 2 or 3 nights, but then we were treated to a Beatles tribute band one night (called the Beaters), playing outside on the 11th floor pool deck, and a Greek dance evening on another night. The highlight for us was Rhodes town. It's just a few minutes in a taxi at a cost of about 7 Euros. The old town is spectacular, particularly at night, it is vibrant and full of atmosphere. We ate in the old town on two evenings, and loved it! The taxi service is superb, no shortage. You can ask the hotel reception to book you a taxi, and hey presto one arrives at the front door in a matter of minutes (usually a Merc!).
We would have no hesitation in returning to Rhodes as a destination, and also this hotel.

Fantasic Hotel

from Gezabel
We recently had our company conference at this hotel - 108 of us in the party! Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were excellent. Don't expect the drinks and snacks to be cheap, the quality is excellent, though you do pay 5 star prices. Nicos, the head waiter was great and a good service given at all meals. Enjoy eating your breakfast on the hotels 10th floor restaurant overlooking Ixia bay and Turkey is breathtaking. Great to have pool towels provided in your room every day saves on the luggage weight! breat choice of three swimming pools
The boat trips from Rhodes town to Lindos are well worth the time and money. Lindos is superb, very picturesque but very steep paths and roads to the top of the town, there are even donkeys waiting to give you a ride to the town square! The beach at Lindos is fabulous with crstal clear warm water and safe bathing for the children.

very nice hotel

I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Rhodes with my mother and cousin. (read my review about Hotel Royal Sorrento).
We had an excellent week at the Rodian Beach, very friendly hotel, staff
pleasant and helpful.
The hotel grew on us as the week went on, we were a little disappointed
with our room when we arrived, although they had upgraded us to a suite and interconnecting room.
This was not a 5 star room, it was in need of decoration, we were told it had been refurbished two years ago, the up side, we did have a bathroom each! The bars restaurant and pools however were very pleasant.
The food was very good, we were bed and breakfast and found a couple of excellent restaurants one in Rhodes Town, The Meletron and one in particular in Ixia, Le Gourmet.
The hotel is facing the main road and sea, traffic noise can be heard around the two front pools and beach, however the roof top pool is very secluded and quite. The bungalows on this level are very nice but the sea view is obscured by trees. As another review has previously said this is a very laid back 5 star hotel at 4 star + prices we were quoted 137 euros for a bungalow (2 persons bed and breakfast) I would recommend this hotel. However if your use to top 5 star hotels stear clear, if you are use to 4 star with a little extra this would be great.

A great hotel

from Helby
We stayed at this hotel when we got married in Rhodes in 2004. The hotel was beautiful and the staff made us feel really special. There were 10 of us in the group and they were very accomodating. The food at the hotel was fantastic and the restaurant had a fabulous location and view. It was well worth waiting for a table outside.

We didn't particulary like Ixia as a resort, but it's only a couple of pounds to go to Rhodes town in a taxi.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Rhodes, but particularly to wedding couples. We're looking forward to returning for our 5th wedding anniversary!
