Funny, just read the other comment. When we were staying in this 'hotel' we had the same feeling. We thought this hotel is actually an East German hospital, which was placed in Rafina by accident.
It is very expensive, especially if you just got back from the Cyclade Islands, and we were the only guests -no surprise here-. But it was an experience to have stayed here.

This was a dreadful sixties hotel with a dragon receptionist who charged as much as she could without a smile - we much prefered the Corali which although poor and unairconditioned and noisy was at least cheap . The Avra was undergoing renovation when we were last there and I hope it has improved this time . we are giving it one last chance - it is the only hotel in Europe which to all intents and purposes one could believe was in the former Soviet Union !
