Top Local Tips for Olympia

Bargain, bargain, bargain! Don't be afraid to bargain with store owners. I found them more willing than many other places in Greece. They want to make the sale so they will work with you. Try Greek pizza! It is different, but it is so good. So many of the business owners are very friendly and accommodating to tourists.

Olympia The Europa Hotel is very conveniently located on a hill above the Olympia historical site and museum.

Avoiding the tour groups Granted we were visiting in October, but at 10am opening time the ticket kiosk at Olympia could not cope with the tour groups coming in-- there were several groups from cruise ships which were being given incorrect number of tickets, and as groups get priority at the kiosk, it took us 20 mins to get our own tickets! By noon, all the groups seem to have left. We would recommend arriving at this time instead, and so having the whole site to yourselves (practically). Beware whistles being blown at you, by the way: you are not allowed to sit on any of the ancient stones, though some seem cordoned off, while others don't!
