Newport Mansions I would advise buying a yearly subscription to the Newport Mansion Preservation Society. My son and I wanted to tour a few of the mansions. With the yearly subscription, we had access to all their homes and we didn't have to wait in line. Plus, we got a back door tour of the Elms. Our tour guide was excellent. She told us quite a few amusing and interesting stories related to the house and area.

Motel works out We stayed at a motel about 15 minutes away from the harbor, which made the trip a lot more affordable and did not get in the way of our enjoyment at all. In town, look for the town lots with long-term meters behind the stores rather than the lots by the harbor.
