Top Local Tips for Mykonos

Eat at Paraportiani Taverna, Buy handmade clothing at Joanna's In Mykonos Town, there are many places to eat. We had a couple of poor experiences. For example, the Alefkandra-- mixed vegetables from a can and the tomato sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee. We were treated like cattle and the service was awful. On the good side was finding the Paraportiani Taverna. What a FANTASTIC place to eat. We were in Mykonos for two weeks and we ate there almost every night. Anything you pick from the menu is wonderful. The staff is always happy to see you and make you feel like you are at a family gathering. The pelicans show up there and it is quite a show. You MUST eat there when visiting Mykonos. You must also shop at Joanna's Handmade Knitwear also near Paraportiani. Joanna has had the store there since 1972 and her mother had a store before her. Her son, Nikolas, operates a second location on the island. Wonderful handmade one-of-a-kind items averaging 50-60 Euros. Such a bargain when you see all of the wonderful, loving working that makes the garment.

Transportation If you arrive by ferry, be sure to pre-arrange transportation from the ferry port to your hotel.

Beaches If you are staying on the town side of the island, you need transportation to the beaches. If you take the time, it is more cost effective to wait for the buses. Cabs can add up.
