I have to agree with one reviewer on the service; it was very poor and ruined the holiday for us. The manager of the dining room was especially rude. Whilst on holiday, my wife hurt her knee and so couldn't make the long journey down from the room (yes there was a minibus, but she was in too much pain to even make it down the steps). The manager agreed that I could take some food up to the room, however, each time he saw us after that, he would either turn away, give us a dirty look, and often do both. This really left a sour taste and he shouldn't be allowed to get away with that kind of attitude. The rest of the waiting staff were quite uptight and not very accomodatinng; they would struggle with a simple request like a cup of hot boiling water at dinner-time. The reception staff however were pleasant and attentive.
One thing about Kardamena is that they try and squeeze every last penny out of tourists, so even though we were on half-board, we had to pay for water at breakfast and dinner! Speaking of Kardamena, it is not very Greek at all. You'll see some nice traditional Greek houses, and the sea is lovely, but the experience wasn't authentic enough. I mean, there was a Mcdonalds, Chinese restaurants, and every restaurant served English breakfasts and dinners! Also the restaurants in Kardamena were expensive; we paid 25 euros for one fish, no salad or rice included. That's more expensive than some restaurants in London! If you hop over to Turkey you would pay half that price and get rice and salad included.
No one has mentioned so far that the hotel is occupied by a lot of German tourists. I have no problem with German people but the majority of German guests there did seem to have a problem with us; we rouinely had to endure dirty stares.
I wouldn't reccommend this hotel at all. It's overpriced, over-hyped and the service overall was appalling. Seriously, this hotel needs to be re-classified to 3* and the staff given training in basic customer service and hospitality.
This review does not, however, detract from Kos Island. I would reccommend you find a hotel in Kos Town, which is a beautiful, quaint, authentic Greek town with plenty to see and do.

Top Local Tips for Kos
Hire a car and cover the island in a day! Get hire car (not a moped or quad-bike) for €30, and cover the whole island in a day. Kos Town to Kardamena is only about 30 minutes drive, and you can get to paradise beach, Kefalos, Zia and Bubble beach no problem.
KOS SIGHTSEEING hire a jeep or quad bke to get around. this island is absolutely gorgeous. went to the mountains, and also to the "end" of island which was just lovely waves crashing, a little taverna for great food and service, right off the beaten track. Kos town picturesque and well laid out. Trip to turkey worth it but a lot of hanging around at port to get in and out of Kos. Bodrum beautiful and a very good lunch included in the sightseeing trip.
The weather was beautiful! I would definitely recommend going at the beginning of June as the hotel has about 700 rooms and i can imagine the hotel being packed around July/August. The 9th June to 20th June was just right for us as it wasnt really bust but it wasnt quiet either. Things like getting a sunbed and being served quite quickly was great! Also the weather was lovely, around 27 when we got there and 35 when we left. We have an amazing tan!!

The Hotel's Achilles heel is its meals service, with insufficient and particularly rude waiters, and very unequal quality of food and beverages, especially the coffee and fruit drinks, which are a daily crap-shoot, sometimes being watered down to a ridiculous level.
On a brighter side, the infrastructure is quite good, with pleasant rooms and a nice pool deck and outdoor entertainment area. The rooms are of a good size, with plenty of them having a great view on to the sea, on account of the situation of the hotel. The quality of the furnishings is not consistent, with things breaking off, or not working, such as a window that can't be closed, or furniture that's too flimsy for kids. Rooms are air-conditioned, which is important in this dry, hot and windy climate.
The kiddie-club does not come close to that being offered by operators such as Club Med, with only 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon being offered to parents with children. Don't expect your kids to want to go there on a daily basis....
The beach in front of the hotel is not very pleasant, with concrete slabs protecting the beach sand from erosion, and making it difficult for children or poor swimmers to take advantage of the pleasant meditterranean sea.
The airport, and especially the flight path of the planes is close enough for them to be heard, especially in the evenings and overnight.
You would definitely want to rent a vehicle while staying at the hotel, which can be done in Kardamena, which is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. This will ease your visitsof the best parts of the island, and to get to some incredibly charming points, such as natural thermal bathS (water temp., from close to body temp., to over 45°C), right on the edge of the ocean
I would definitely recommend Kos as an Island to visit, especially regarding its historical past, including being the island where Hippocrates founded the hippocratic oath, and impressive ruins of the World's 1st hospital. The landscape is also spectacular, on the western rim of the Island, bringing to mind places such as Cape Town, but on a smaller scale.
To sum things up, do go to Kos, and you can stay at Aegean Village, or even better find a hotel with a better level of service, to avoid spoiling your vacation.
