A piece of paradise!

We first discovered the Saily Hotel in 2003 from an article praising it in the Daily Mail. We took a chance and have been back each year save 2007 when Kosmar collapsed along with the airline. The first impression was breathtaking, the gardens and pool, the large terrace with overhanging vines and the beach just 2 mins down the lane. The staff are lovely, very helpful and by now of course they are friends. The setting is idyllic but try and have an upstairs room, they all have balconies and the ground floor tend to be dark. The menu is good but choose the dishes of the day, so not too much choice. We found the breakfasts excellent, yogurt, breads, cereals, eggs, jams, fruit, etc. 3 tavernas on the beach and Kala Nera is a half hour walk through the olive grove for more choice. If you want peace and tranquility to opt out of the rat race come here. Excellent. We're going back in June 2009. Beautiful place, beautiful people.

Also stayed at the saily, our room (121) which was on the ground floor was very basic indeed. We had very little privacy as the curtains were too short for the windows. The bathroom having none at all making it impossible to have a shower after dark. The breakfast was very boring, the tea was made in a thermos flask,i think it belonged to a builder. On the plus side the staff were very friendly, the gardens&pool exellent and we made some great friends. Oh and special thanks to costa, vasalee & wife (taverna on main road) for some great meals(why has it no name) and great hospitality.

Returned from Koropi(Pelion)07/07/06, ground floor rooms very disappointing, very small and our room contained one wardrobe, a cupboard and 2 drawers, made out of packing cases, which we could'nt use as they were damp so we lived out of suitcases. There was a wall a foot away from back windows and wire mesh was torn and hanging down. Room always in the dark so light had to be used in order to see. After one week we were moved upstairs which was much better. The rooms were kept very clean and linen changed often.
Food was reasonable but breakfast of processes ham and cheese every morning was rather boring. The pool and gardens were excellent and the staff very friendly. This hotel is still in the Kosmar brochure but it is not up to the standard we have enjoyed at other Kosmar accommodation elsewhere in the Greek islands.

Great setting, poor food choice

Recently stayed at Saily - our room (17) was very damp with extensive black mould in shower room - we were given another room (4) which was much better but the beds not too comfortable. Also avoid room 15 which is very dark due to a block wall sited about 20cm from the back window. The Saily gardens were beautiful and pool was excellent - not too busy and very clean. Our main complaint is that the food choice was poor and the menu did not reflect the availability. The majority of the LIMITED choice was of good quality (except the Souvlaki and very boring breakfast). There was also no choice of wine - only the house (their own brew) red and white which, even by some Greek standards, was hard to acquire a taste for! The rooms were cleaned daily and the staff were friendly. The advertised Greek night and BBQ did not happen over the two weeks we were there.
We found the best place to eat was the Thalassa Beach Taverna (with the blue umbrellas) where the choice of food and wine was excellent and the welcome was fantastic. It is also worth trying the taverna on the main road just for the experience!
The beach, which has a blue flag, was none too clean and after a thunder storm we observed brown sludge being discharged into the sea, and on another occasion animals defecating on the beach.
