Just what we wanted

We had booked a hotel in mid August 2008 a little further above Petani Beach, but were rather appalled at what we found when we got there and were desperately trying to find another hotel, which was quite difficult in the month of August.

So, we went to all the hotels we could find in Lixouri and were relieved to learn that Palatino had one self-catering apartment free, because of an unexpected departure of a family due to the father being called on duty.

Knowing that we couldn't be too picky under the circumstances, we were prepared to just make for the best, but instead we were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the self-catering apartment.

A very spacious room with twin beds, a separate small kitchen and stairs leading to an upper floor with more twin beds.
A lot of kitchenware to cook for the family.

The bathroom spacious and everything working. No flooding in the shower (which is what we usually experience in hotels) and very clean.

The furniture well kept and very comfortable. No neck and back pains from bad mattresses. A separate dinner table where I placed my laptop, as I had to work online during the holidays.

A small patio that leads into the garden... not exactly a garden, but rather a small field with olive trees and the large and spotless clean pool situated a little further away. No noise coming from the swimming pool.

Palatino is situated inside Lixouri on a hill (not steep) and is just 5 minutes away from the harbor and the central square of Lixouri.

It was exactly what we expected to experience during our holidays. A clean, comfortable apartment that would make us feel at home.

We had our car, so we were able to go to any beach we wanted, depending on our mood. My favorite is Lepeda (5-7 minute drive from Palatino) and Vatsa (on the south side of Lixouri) and naturally, Petani beach on the west side.

We were very fortunate to find this hotel and have recommended it to our friends.

Very clean - both rooms and public areas, breakfast (included) quite uninspiring with awful coffee - we went into Lixouri for breakfast, Hotel lacks a restaurant facility. Staff very friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble. Car an absolute necessity. Hotel is recommended.

The Palatino is a great hotel, especially for the prices they offer - the staff are friendly, facilities are good, and it's just a short walk from the town square.

We had a family wedding in the town hall, with the reception held at the Palatino - it was fantastic, and the staff couldn't do enough, made it a really special occaision. Highly reccomended!

This hotel is pleasant clean and in a lovely position. Nice pool area with snack bar We stayed on bed and breakfast basis but they now have more self catering apartments. Has been developed since we visited so cannot give a review that is bang up to date but we would return to this hotel as cannot see that much would have changed. Situated near to ferry to travel over the the larger town of Agostili, cheap ferry crossing

Top Local Tips for Kefalonia

Great resturants on the harbour front in Lixouri There are some great restuarants on the harbour front selling a range of great dishes from authentic Kefalonian to your regular pasta etc. Try Maxim or Oasis (which are next door to each other) they both have excellent service and the food is devine - when in Oasis try the Kefalonia Meat Pie - its gorgeous!! I want some now!! :o)
