It depends on what you want from a holiday. If you just want to sit and stare at the sea, the harbour, the mountains, butterflies, birds or read in peace, then this place is perfect. As a single woman traveller, I felt very comfortable. Breakfast is choice of eggs, cold meats, cheese, cereals, fresh bread and gorgeous local honey. No restaurant as such but the excellent Sunset Taverna is renowned throughout the island and is just a few steps away. If there is a down side its the long haul back uphill from the village and beach. 10mins down and 45mins back. Rooms are basic but all have shower/wc and all the balconies have fantastic views of the mountains and sea. You can get there by two buses via Argostoli but NOT on a Sunday. Taxis from the airport cost about 40euros each way. The village itself is not bad, the usual tourist tat, sarongs, beach shoes (which you will need as its all rocky/pebbly/shingly), but some good supermarkets and the baclava at the baker is to die for. Maria, the hotelier, is a little shy to begin with but cannot do enough for the guests. Likewise the Sunset taverna, although Voula is anything but shy. But they made me feel welcome and didnt ask awkward questions as to why I was alone. Also this is well frequented by local Kefalonians, so one can be assured by the authenticity of the food. All in all this was idyllic and perfect for me.
